I think it’s difficult to pick and choose. I think it’s tough to attack races, religions, beliefs, and everything in between, but be empathetic towards the working class and have that overshadow everything else you say. But with that being said, I appreciate the comment. Constructive criticism and different perspectives help me make better videos in the future.

@@PsychologyOfTheFight "doesn't understand that his words are making people feel a certain way" - I think he is amongst groups of fighters that hurl insults at each other while pretending not to be bothered. It's nothing new. You could say this about most of the fighters that make use of the media and hype. The insults and thoughts are all-encompassing and span a lot of issues. To directly quote Mirriam-Webster's definition of empathy: "the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of another" - it's obvious how much thought and consideration there is to insult one another. It takes a good understanding and sensitivity of experience and feeling to know what insults work or sting the most. His insults towards any particular group are similar in controversy, with gut-wrenching, thought-provoking irony you get from comedians. He's deliberately less empathetic towards some things for cause and effect rather than lack of capacity. You're right, his struggle through hardship and demons, and choice to find a positive outlet along with his liberal expression of it all is very compelling and relatable to many.

  • @adambalogh7239

Agreed, he actually is very empathetic, but since he endured the shit he had to endure, he has a high expectation of other people as well, and wont show the empathy he has toward them, because comforting others breeds weakness, and I think thats his thought process as well

Very well done and interesting to watch. I hope you don't mind me adding my take. There is a difference between someone who is narcissistic in the lack of empathy sense and someone who is narcissistic because of fear. People who have gone through extreme trauma are often stricken with fear that can come out as unempathetic. The same reason a child would insult another child just because they themselves are afraid of not being appreciated. This happens to adults too but is more common with children. It is a form of preemptive retaliation. My take on Strickland is that he is consumed by his world view that the world is inherently evil and that people are mostly evil. This makes him fearful of love and kindness so all his interactions with the world are attempts at reinforcing his world view. The only way to deal with someone like that is to be loving and kind unconditionally. I bet that if any future opponent of his take this approach to Strickland we will see a Strickland that is facing his deepest fears and becomes vulnerable and unrecognizable. For Strickland to accept that the world is not inherently evil and that people are good (true or not is not the point) would force him to realize that evil was directed at him in particular. This is an incredibly difficult realization as it would shift his view of himself from one evil amongst other evil to someone who was not loved. To not be loved or wanted, especially by your parents, for the sole reason of you being you is exceptionally demoralizing.

Great video , loved the ending. It’s So important to integrate your shadow into your complete self, first by acknowledging, then accepting and forgiving whatever antisocial and ‘negative’ traits you my discover within yourself after a jungian analysis. My shadow ruined my recent relationship, thought I’d found the love of my life. I’m sick to my core everyday thinking about it but all I can do is repent and learn - something these videos are so helpful with. Not just sports psychology, these are for life. Thank you JD, these are a true blessing for all of us lucky enough to watch! Keep up the great work, you’re helping people more then you know.

Appreciate it a ton, Justin! I think the shadow is a really underrated concept, and the more honest you can be about who you are, the better your life will be. It's my intention to make these applicable for life and try to benefit the viewer as much as I can through an interesting lens. It's really great to see you in the comments section on multiple videos, the support means the world man. I'm glad you like the videos, and reading comments like this really encourages me to keep going with it.

I'd disagree that he has a lack of empathy and egocentrism. I think he has more empathy than most people, especially if you look at the quality of the relationships he has at his gym, and how people see him as a leader and trust him, even before he was a champion. He also doesn't flaunt his wealth like most fighters.

You know I've never really given it much thought as to who or what you should cover next. But, I think it would be dope to see how Ilia Topuria is gonna turn out with his upcoming fight against Volkonovski. If it goes Topuria's way it would be interesting to cover his mindset of a champ before actually being the champ. Almost resembles how Conor believed in himself and engrained a rare confidence when he was first coming up in the UFC. Just an idea, you've covered plenty of good fighters. So if anything some fighters, possibly Brandon Moreno with his ups and downs from becoming champ every other fight, Topuria as stated, or maybe even Justin Gaethje's ultimate warrior state of mind. Idk haha. Regardless, you always tend to come up with pretty interesting topics/concepts, keep up the grind my man! Stay hard!@@PsychologyOfTheFight

I don't agree with a lot of the things you said about Sean, but it's a very well-done video. I also realize now how much more based Sean is, and that he will KO DDP with gunshot to the head on national TV because he's da joka baby.

While I may not agree with all of Sean’s viewpoints, give his last interview with the UFC with Megan, I definitely think he’s more comparable to Phoenix’s Joker than American Psycho.

Such a strange comparison but I guess we’ll go with it because of all the effort you put in. He had a violent upbringing, he went thru shit as a young man. I wouldn’t call him the joker but more so a man that goes thru things in life and comes out the other side on top in his own way. He did and does what he’s gotta do to survive like most of us. My favorite fighter rn as well

I think as long as Sean has a good girl by his side which he does he’ll be fine. I also think after his ufc career as a fighter will be the time he goes one way or another. He’s smarter than you think and extremely marketable. He gets attention by just saying whatever he’s thinking. That’s a skill that can not necessarily be taught.

I think Sean didn't find happiness, his behaviour is the one of a really insecure man who need to attack and criticize other people and he's still behaving this way. Despite his great accomplishments, his behaviour is not the one of a happy man. I'm sorry for his traumas, but is since Mcgregor that I didn't see such an unbearable person, and I am the one who is usually fascinated by anti-heroes. Congratulations for your channel, just found it and love your videos!!

I guess I do have antisocial personality disorder 😂😂 in middle school we were playing dodge ball and I stepped on my teammates wrist and broke it so that I could throw the ball, and I laughed at him. He came the next day with a cast and I said what happened then he reminded me and I felt so bad but when I did it I didn’t think anything of it.

Looking more into stricklands background he definitely has ASPD, but I would say sociopathy rather than psychopathy, very similar but sociopaths are far more impulsive and emotional than psychopaths, psychopaths are born sociopaths are made, due to his childhood abuse he became a sociopath

Someone isnt a sociopath just because they talk like a guy and didnt live a coddled easy life. He talks just like a veteran or a firefighter or most MMA fighters would. He's just a masculine guy whos been through some shit. He is how men are SUPPOSED to be.

5:33 People who falls on the ASPD spectrum do have cognitive empathy, but the affectionate empathy is the one missing, what you´re talking about is a form of autism where you cannot tell if you´re hurting another person, which isn´t the case in primary/secondary psychopathy.
