The Psychology Behind Self-directed Learning | Dr. Naomi Fisher

Do you want to understand the psychology behind self-directed learning? Clinical psychologist, author, and mother of two self-directed learners, Naomi Fisher talks about these topics in this interview
.
Naomi brings together a professional background in psychology with a practical understanding of self-directed education. Through working with children who were unhappy at school, she became convinced that education can never empower people by taking away their control over their lives. Her work focuses on the interaction between a child and their environment, and how we can create the circumstances for every child to thrive.
.
Her book, Changing Our Minds: How Children Can Take Control of Their Learning, will be published by Little, Brown in spring 2021.
.
This interview was presented at the Homeschooling Global Summit 2020 organized by Galileo - the self-directed online global school. Learn more at 2020.hgsummit.com/.

Thank you so much to this amazing, articulate speaker! She has put this so clearly- I felt like it was my own thoughts pouring out of my head and being told back to me in a coherent way! I would love to hear more about the deschooling process, the usual trains of thought that parents have during this stage, as I am in the middle of it and getting quite stressed! I would also love to hear about the psychology behind self directed learning, I can’t wait to read her book! :)

Hi Naomi ! Wow this was amazing. This is exactly my story with taking my son out of school at 15 after such a struggle. The autism diagnosis wasnt enough as the system was so wrong for him. He is 20 now and a total self learner and such a well adjusted clever and insightful boy. I really jumped against public judgement but i stand my my choice and totally believe it was the right thing for him. To hear your words i feel so supported. Thanks Naomi xxx

It is so nice to know there are others who see this approach as a sane way to raise kids… and from around the world!
