Vita is one of the most underrated systems, once you install a cfw it becomes an amazing emulation machine too.

If the game library was more robust I would agree with you. But as somebody who doesn't play jrpgs, vita just isn't my thing. I have a couple vitas with cfw installed too. Can you change my mind on selling my vita? I plan to buy a psp 3000 and just collect authentic umds and movies because the psp market is still pretty cheap right now. I think the vita is too overpriced for its small gaming library.
@itsmesteve1081

I could emulate retro games just as well, if not better, on the new nintendo 3ds. The only exception perhaps being n64, but i don't play n64 games anyways

@@itsmesteve1081 There's a lot more you can do with a Vita than with a (New) 3DS, emulation/retro gaming included. I don't see what could be emulated "better" on the (New) 3DS given that the Vita has the more powerful hardware but since I'm not too involved in the 3DS scene I'd love to hear it. Other than that though, there is simply no touching the Vita cfw scene. There are so many ports of older/retro games coming out for the system even today. The 3DS doesn't come close. And lastly there is just the fact that you can actually look at the Vita's screen without bursting into tears. I don't even have to mention the fact that the Vita has a beautiful screen because the screens on the 3DS are utterly atrocious and would make any other device look amazing by comparison. Add to that the PS2/Gamecube era graphics which have aged terribly and it becomes increasingly difficult to look at the screen of a 3DS without wishing to spontaneously go blind. I know the screens on the New 3DS are slightly better in terms actual quality but still there's only so much you can do to polish a turd. Edit: Oh and by the way, the Vita may be a JRPG paradise but it most definitely has a lot more to offer in terms of its game library. Indie and AA developers in general absolutely thrived on the system. I'm not that into JRPGs either but I still love the Vita's library. There is a plethora of stuff like adventure games (Danganronpa, Broken Age etc), visual novels (way too many to list...) and even soulsborne game(s?) (salt and sacrifice) and roguelikes (e.g. Bastion from Supergiant games, the guys that made Hades). There is definitely a lot to love about the Vita even if you're not that into JRPGs. Especially considering that the majority of the JRPGs found on the Vita are really not that good. Obviously talking about the low-budget stuff not games like Persona 4 Golden or Trails of cold steel.
The vita has got to be one of the most interesting consoles I've ever had for all the right and wrong reasons

Vita is the most underrated system period. It had so much potential with Sony first party titles and popular rereleases. Imagine if we got a Fallout game like New Vegas! I remember when it first came out, I was 14 and worked for days to save up for the Vita. I finally got it and it blew my mind 🤯 At least we have the homebrew community now and some decent titles.

Yeah if the Vita can play Borderlands 2, it can probably play other big open world games too. If it succeeded in the West we probably would’ve gotten a Skyrim port since it’s everywhere lmao

I can tell the pride and energy you've put into this project and I'm thankful for it. I only adopted a Vita in late 2020 and I can tell I missed out on a lot. Fantastic video youve created here and in my opinion is the best retrospective of the Vita on KZread. Well Done!
Missed your content Tark, hope all is well. Hard to believe its been over 10 years already. This video really stirred up some nostalgic memories for me. Vita is also my favorite handheld of all time and you certainly did it justice here.

Awesome documentary! It’s crazy how the Vita still has a growing community. I remember when I got my first Vita around 2013, no one knew it was a brand new console and thought it was a PSP lol
This is officially one of my favorite you tube videos ever, so many many memories, Play Station Vita, Vita means Vida ❤️ greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Man, this documentary was truly a marvel! It really shows Tarks’ true skill at retrospective journalism and injecting his own anecdote to the mix. The PsVita was always a mystery console here in Scandinavia and hearing that it is indeed region free makes me want to hunt one down! Thanks again for the delightful video sir😊🙏 METAL! Oh btw, you are looking damn fit sir💪
How I missed your content here on YT. Also, thank you so much for making this video. This really made me remember back those fun years of me just playing the PS Vita.
Wow, what a way to come back with a bang Tark! This was such an amazing video and despite my love for the Vita, I learned so much about its history that I didn't know before. The Vita is one of the main reasons I fell in love with JRPGs and I'll forever be grateful for it. Looking forward to the next video (that teaser at the end has me excited)!
An awesome project for an awesome platform! This video put so many smiles on my face. I still remember getting my Vita in 2015 as a birthday gift (the model 2000 with Borderlands 2) and while I already loved JRPGs and niche games, the Vita introduced me to so many new genres, styles and experiences that I doubt I would have went out of my way to try otherwise. Not only that, but having a huge library of PSP and PSone games at my disposal made it even better... I even double dipped on a few PSP games just to get the digital copy xD The Vita will always have a special place in my heart, and while I love my PS4, the Vita is the last system that really feels like "Classic" PlayStation, wild, unique and full of ideas you can't find anywhere else
Such an amazing job on this video Tarks. Not going to lie, the ending has me getting emotional. I remember the day I bought my Vita, and I always kept it safe and pristine shape. This was the first system I made the extra effort to take care of like it was my baby and I’m happy to say my sweet Vita has nary a scratch on her. Now I want to charge it, and play the hell out of it for old times sake.
Awesome video Tark! Love the research and production value. Thanks for having me be a part of this video.

Very generous! Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and it really resonated with you! Lots of people have weighed in on how the vita failed over the years but as a fan of the system I really wanted to show that even in its failures there was still something great being produced for audiences like me!
I joined the #VitaIsland just last year, purchasing my system from a friend who bought it and never used it, and this got me so emotional. I love this system so much I can't even put it into words; it makes me feel special, i feel like I belong with it. I'm a part of the hb community too and... Through homebrewing, the Vita really brims with Life in a million different ways. I still think it was one of my best purchases ever. Thank you for this great documentary Tarks! It was really amazing. You got a new sub! Keep it up :)

Superb video, Tarks! I really like the Vita. It's an awesome piece of tech with so many good games.
This gives me childhood nostalgia even though I was in my early 20s for almost all of this. Didn't know LRG history either, but this video makes me feel like I'm mourning a friend. Even my KZread avatar is a screenshot from a Vita game.
Great coverage Tarks! A great homage ot a fantastic gaming device! I love both my ps vita (oled and led) and it's obvious it could've been so much more... Cheers!

Big salute to you on this video! I'm a huge huge Vita fan, I play it almost on daily basis! proud to be biggest collector of Vita games in my own country (the reason why I'm mostly broke LOL). Keep playing man, Switch will never be a true replacement of Vita and you have displayed some games which I didn't come across yet, got me interested in seeking them, thanks!
Amazing. I bought a Vita few months back and absolutely love it. Thanks a lot for this video. Very informative and enjoyed it a lot.
love this! very well put together with some bits and pieces i didn't even know about and some jolly cameos. among the vita rettospect videos, this one has to be one of the best. am a late adopter myself (2019), tried the vita more out of curiousity (to play the crossplatform söldner x2 on a handheld) and became somewhat obsessed with it. my favourite model is the 1000 (used with a basic grip for comfort) and my favourite edition is the cosmic red soul sacrifice premium edition (the delta version of the game is also one of my top 3 games on the plattform). despite the more modern tech, no other plattform hits the spot like the vita does, so thus will likely stay my favourite handheld. thanks for putting in the effort to make this video.

@@Gloryboyquan basically life happens. I've been busy with a lot of things that don't really allow me to make time to play videogames as much as I used to back in my high school days.
Actually that "lack of variety" of AAA games on the Vita opened my eyes to some of the greatest games I've ever played ranging from Cold Steel, Sly Collection (1 to 4), Lost Dimension, Sword Art Online (all three), Uta Kumi 575 and Tokyo Xanadu. Great video! It took me back to 2011, when I first saw the PS Vita in a demo kiosk in Akihabara a few days after it launched. I also remembered the struggles we VitaIslanders had to go through those years (2012-2015) when not a lot of games were arriving on the Vita...
I would of never seen this video if it wasn't for Irchas community post and that makes me so sad youtube doesn't recommend me this type of content more. this video was amazing!! the intro alone I knew that the hour was going to be worth it and my god it was, I've never owned a vita but I have been a handheld gamer since I can remember and I'm definitely going to be buying a vita locally now, you did such a great job at capturing your love for the vita and made a really high quality video out of it, keep it up!
Really awesome video! I finally dusted off my Vita this week and modded it. The modding and homebrew scene for the vita is so excellent and still quite active! People are figuring out ways to port new titles to the system and emulation continues to improve year after year.
This video is an amazing introduction for me to the Vita. I am a new Vita owner, got a wrong charger, but awaiting for my delivery of the actual charger 😅. I never knew how big the community is, and I am glad to see it thriving. I wanted to get a Vita back in the day, but I couldn't, because all of the expenses you need to make for the console. But finally I found a good deal and got the console. So once I get the charger, oh boy I will be playing LittleBigPlanet Vita, Gravity Rush, possible even Persona 4 Golden, Tearaway, and even other classics I can't think of right now. By the way this video is amazing, soo good. Everyone involved clearly had love for the Vita and you can tell. Thank you for this amazing video.
At least the home brew scene is keeping it alive and kicking
Excellent stuff, presented in a thoughtful, articulate and professional manner. A great watch! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Amazing documentary, it’s incredible man! Thank you for sharing your experience and your love for Psvita! I bought a psp Japanese version when it launched and I still have it and I’m actually playing the amazing port Cave Story! But I want to buy a Psvita because I see that the passion and respect for this console lives beyond Sony… This documentary should be seen on a big streaming platform by everyone! If someone wants to understand how the Nintendo Switch appeared, you have to understand Psvita and Pstv legacy! ❤
What a time capsule, thanks for your hard work, great video! Vita means life!
Man what a remarkable video! A work of art constructed into a beautiful documentary. Well done on this one.
Great video, sums up the systems legacy and love the inclusions of the other content creators who are known in the Vita community. You were so right about bringing niche genres to gamers. I wasn't big on jrpgs, visual novels, or dungeon crawlers until I got a vita. As I got older, the AAA games and shooters I always played just weren't cutting it for me anymore and I decided to experiment. I will always sing the vitas praises as a console out of time. It's sweet spot of games 2012-2016 was so short lived and damn its a shame.
Damn dude you went crazy with the editing at the end. Really beautiful work
this guy is a videomaking genius, some of the best work i've seen on here
This was a great video on the vita! My first ps vita is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. So excited! 😊
I love this so much! I feel like we need a part 2 chronicling the thriving hacking scene
I was proud to be a part of the vita community early on. I feel like due to it's smaller library at the beginning it made me branch out and try weirder titles that I found enjoyment in. Already being a huge fan of JRPGs and niche games through steam, it's later additions to the library was just a treasure trove in my eyes. I feel like it did accomplish getting the 'feeling' of console quality ps3 generation games onto a portable device. Which was impressive especially for back then. It's just a shame sony mistreated it. Oh well. I'll still appreciate what we got especially after installing cfw it's become my go to system to emulate in bed or on the go. Playing soul sacrifice at it's peak alone made the entire console worth it imo. Anyway great video! Glad to see you back, you're definitely one of the most slept on youtubers I know.
This was awesome. I’m a late adopter, but also a late adopter to JRPGs. I have enjoyed discovering new genres and playing indies on the Vita.
Awesome video my friend, you can definitely consider this a job well done. Thank you for putting it together and sharing 😃👍🏻
Amazing video man! Very well done. I still look back on the Vita as my favourite handheld. I even have some issues of The Vita Lounge magazine. Thanks to Koei Tecmo's support of the console and many of the Warriors games having cross-save function, the Vita was the reason I played even more Warriors along side the PS4 versions. If it weren't for the Vita, I wouldn't be nearing 600 hours in Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends.
GREAT video, brother!! I agree wholeheartedly with you. I love my PS5 and Switch but very often I go back to my vita. I’m actually playing Trails in the Sky SC on my Vita right now
I’ve loved my vita since I grabbed one around 2016. After hacking it, the vita becomes a blast to mess around with. I do enjoy playing the switch, but the vita is usually my go to.
Awesome docs, you trully shows what you've got here. And for Vita.. I wish the emulator progress in a great pace and it will surely live forever ...

Man, I almost lost it at the end. I've bought mine at launch and installed CFW about 2 years ago. Sometimes I got the urge tu buy a switch or a steam deck but I think I will just stick with the vita. Since jailbreaking it a whole new world opened up for me. Great video, honoring this amazing handheld.
Thank you for taking the time to this Documentary. Love from a fellow Vita player to this day.

Great video man. Vita is my fave console of all time it had so much potential.
Really fantastic video! I never had the chance to play on the vita back then, but now so many of the games I'm enjoying are vita ports. It's really cool to see all the different people share their experiences with this handheld. I hope that sony will make a return to the handheld market again. It feels like we're in a period where handhelds are starting to become popular again (seeing how huge the switch has gotten and the excitement over the steam deck). Glad to have you back, hope you're doing well Tarks!
