    I have an aluminum splitter and without support bars the down force deflects the splitter above 135 mph which will snap the bumper tabs and pull the bumper loose from the clamshell.

    How thick is the birch wood? 1/4", 1\2" ect...?

    Check our Coosa Board for splitter material... usually better weight/stiffness/durability compromises to plywood and most composites... it may be a good choice for you.
