He's my favorite npc in the whole game by far, he's real asf, also the alien mask and the scythe look sick, I can't wait to get them haven't beaten miquella and radahn yet. Even just him admitting that he's scared shittless facing miquella after we beat leda in that 3v3 arena fight (which I also really enjoyed) and then greeting radahn but saying that lord mohg deserves his dignity back when you enter the boss arena with him, so good. I did Dragon Waifu/the guy who screams at bayle, St trina/Thiollier and Ansbach/Freya quest and his had the best dialogue and lore revelations by far, if I wouldn't have done his and freyas I wouldn't know why tf radahn is even there. This dlc could have been a fire movie/series the way the npcs stories are intertwined.

Maybe the reason he found ways to stop the meddling of outside Gods (like the Flame of Frenzy and Scarlet Rot) is so that Miquella can be the only God to rule.

@@badasstoad9419 People assume Radahn is mind controlled for some reason, but it just seems like Miquella vowed for Malenia to fight Radahn in exchange for becoming Miquella's consort and he accepted, with Malenia reminding him of his end of the vow just before releasing the rot and ending the battle. The vast majority of his actions are genuinely kind, from saving lives, to trying to fix the curses of his brothers and sisters. St Trina only wants to kill him because he's discarded so much of himself, and taking a painful burden, not because he's evil. The only one who got screwed over was Mohg, but to be honest, Miquella was in the middle of creating a new erdtree when that happened, so I don't think he really charmed Mohg, but instead reacted to the situation, and perhaps, even kindly, incorporated Mohg into his consort as a compromise, even if thats not necessarily what either of them wanted.

I didn't actually mind that I couldn't hear the second phase so much. Phase 1 is my fav by far.

I like how this DLC contrasts so well with DS3's Ringed City and even mirrors it. In the Ringed City, the final boss is Gael. A nobody like you, fighting you over nothing at the end of time. No consequence comes of your victory, just a bloodbath. In the Shadow of the Erdtree, the final boss is Radahn and Miquella. Now you aren't a nobody, you are the Lord of the Old Order, fighting the strongest of the demigods who is the Lord of the New Order, and his God Miquella, the most fearsome of the Empyreans. You are the only being who hasn't been charmed by the new God, and you are the only one strong enough to kill him. Ansbach failed once before, despite being tarnished like you. Thiollier is as weak as a kitten. You then bring them to your side and fight the God of the New Age. But in twisted FromSoft fashion, no consequence comes of your victory, just a bloodbath. Your compatriots die from their wounds, and no one even recognized that Miquella became a god, because you already killed the rest of his followers. Absolutely nothing in the base game changes based on your actions in the Land of Shadow. The Albinaurics still roam listlessly, the Haligtree soldiers are still on post, Malenia still awaits her brother's return. You are just a weapon of war employed by Marika to clean up her mistakes. An age of war, drama, attempted familicide, charming everyone he could bring to his side, and divesting of flesh and selfhood ruined in a five minute brawl, and the Tarnished goes about their day.

There is a consequence for fighting Gael at the end of DS3. He had been able to consume and combine the Dark Soul into its most complete form since the pygmy broke it apart to father humanity. And he combined it so that the dark soul could be used as pigment for the painter's painting. A dark, gentle world.

Even if his charm broke she is loyal to Miquella, it is in her blood...like seriously, it is. He charmed her body/blood when he draw scarlet rot out of her body, but left a scar on her nose.

I had a very high opinion of Radahn prior to the DLC. Now I find out he was one of the few people in the Lands Between capable of telling Miquella "No." That only adds to that respect.

You can vow to kill someone; you can vow to obtain revenge; you can vow to get rich, etc. Miquella states he VOWED Radahn would be his Consorte; there is no notion or mention of a vow made by Radahn. All the descriptions tell us that Miquella was the one wanting. Since his childhood. There's no mention of Radahn's desires. Everything points out that he does not want this, and that's the reason Miquella vows he will be his Consort. That's also the reason why Radahn holds back the stars. The Carian family has their destiny associated with the stars. Stopping them, Radahn can stop his own future (being mind controlled and charmed by Miquella). Makes total sense.

The base game makes it abundantly clear radahn held up the stars specifically to stop fate. We were all really confused because the only two characters in the base game that were being stopped by this were Ranni, who seemed to have little business with radahn otherwise, to the point that her officers served in his army, and Miquella, lord of the haligtree. Now we finally know which of those two was the intended target, and why.

Not sure why we are supposed to be sympathetic to a guy with a murder cult and blood kink. Ansbach is a pure BLOOD knight, from before Mohg was used by Miquella. Meaning Mohg and Ansbach were happily sacrificing countless people for blood before Miquella came along. I resent that the game forces you to be allies with him, I did his quest and desperately wanted to kill him towards the end of it. Cool NPC, great VO, but people are lost thinking he and Mohg did nothing wrong. Use your brains, what were they doing before Miquella came along?

Y’know, the worst part of everything Miquella did was that in the end, none of it mattered. Yeah he abandoned everything about himself, took a consort, and ascended to Godhood, but isn’t that exactly what the Greater Will wanted? He was an Empyrean after all, chosen to be the next God of a new order. And his consort was none other than Radahn, who was know for being fiercely loyal to his father and the Golden Order, both servants of the Greater Will. In Miquella’s attempt to escape the influence of the Outer God, he became its pawn instead. St. Trina was right when she said it would be a “caged divinity”.

It wasn't what the Greater Will wanted. The Greater Will was never around, as stated by Metyr's lore. It's likely Marika may have risen with the Greater Will's influence as the Elden Beast is involved, but in our time it's clear that the Two Fingers were communicating with Metyr, who she herself wasn't exactly sure what the hell to do. It also essentially confirms that the one guiding us with grace was Marika all along.

@@OmegaTrooper1 I like to think Marika saw what the GW’s agenda would’ve lead to for everyone and decided to break away from it. Maybe losing her son made her come to terms with all the ruin and destruction she brought about (as confirmed in the dlc, she was a wrathful and vengeful god) and how little it amounted to at the end of it all. In the end, she had the redemption arcs of all redemption arcs.

4:42 to the end is maybe my favorite bit of FromSoft music ever. It starts so gentle, perfect for Miquella, and builds to this heroic theme for Radahn. But it manages to stay sounding pure, kind, and righteous. Also the mix of the high gentle voice representing Miquella and the choir representing Radahn weave in and out so beautifully. Such a good theme.

@@DD-fs9xtI rolled everything, and god it was so scary. Phase 2 one little mistake and you gotta use the next tiny opening to heal rather than chip away at the ridiculous health bar. Meanwhile lasers and explosions everywhere. Once you realize the light beam after-trails are just there to keep you close / scare you it’s really not that terrible. Just gotta learn those crazy clone attacks.

Malenia, in her intro cutscene says "As I awaited his return". That almost makes it seem as though Malenia knew about Miquella's plans and was waiting for Miquella to come back on his own. Which is either me missunderstanding the dialogue or is insane foreshadowing for what we know now.

Remember in the og Elden Ring story trailer, Malenia murmured something to Radahn as she stabbed herself and exploded? The armor descriptions tells us what she said. She knew the whole time what the plan was.

Freyja seems to imply that Miquella was in Caelid when Malenia and Radahn were fighting. So what most likely happened is Malenia fought Radahn and unleashed the Scarlet Rot, fell unconscious and Finlay proceeded to carry her back to the Haligtree. Miquella, on the other hand, didn't return to the Haligtree and most likely went to Mohg to begin Plan B.

I really wish we got Godwyn coming back instead of Radahn. It seemed like much of the lore was building up to it instead, with Miquella wanting him to die a true death, but this does make Malenia's fight with Radahn make a lot more sense.

It happened to my mimic tear during the quiet part, then he turned at me and started blasting as the build up went into overdrive. So cool.

4:58 onwards is easily one of my favorite From OST segments of all time. Brilliant composition. This is what battling a god should sound like. Radagon was heavy and final, Elden Beast was sad, almost whimsical, this, it's monumental.

Long story short it was shit - bad mixing, game sounds overwhelming the music, bad choice of tracks. honestly I'm starting to feel the greater will isn't real and it is just cosmic beings interpreting the universe and thinking there's some thinking super god, and passing this to their underlings. like if the fingers have never heard the messages of the greater will, it means the entire creation of the Elden Ring and choosing an empyrean was not "fated". these beings decided. like I'm kinda understanding why Ranni would kill her fingers .

This is possibly the greatest OST in the game right now... and yes, I am saying that despite "Radagon of the Golden Order" and "Godskin Apostles" existing. This is simply... beautiful... the second phase chanting is divine. This is amazing.

I will never not be sick to my stomach knowing mohg was used as a puppet this entire time against his will only to be killed like a dog and the worst is miquella uses his corpse as a vessel for radahn like no wonder ansbach is angry and wants justice and i have to agree with him. I want to think radahn had no say but hey what better way than to become a "son" of godfrey than to Frankenstein his sons dead body. Mohg deserved fucking better than this and ill die on this hill. At least morgott got to see his father one more time, and be comforted by him. Mohg gets nothing. He got his brain scrambled and body violated and for what.

I think Radahn also didn’t have a say in it. What most likely happened was that he initially agreed to be Miquella’s consort, but then he changed his mind and started holding back the stars to stop his fate from moving since he’s a Carian. Upon this, Miquella changed his plans and sent Malenia to kill Radahn, then charmed Mohg so he could resurrect and puppeteer Radahn through Mohg’s body. This way he could both kill Radahn to continue the movement of the stars, and resurrect him as a puppet who couldn’t reject his proposal. His plan was foiled by Radahn when Radahn not only fought back but also took Malenia down with him to a stalemate, but you killing Mohg and Radahn allowed his plan to commence once more.

@@generaliv8658 No he was completely willing. He seemingly made a vow with Miquella and Malenia even whispers in his ear referring to him as the promised consort.

Radahn most likely promised to be Miquella's consort when they were both very young, before they really knew what it meant, the way small children will sometimes say things like "I want to marry my mommy because I love her sooo much!" But while Radahn grew up, Miquella, both figuratively and literally, did not. He remained a child, with childish notions. And to a child, a promise is sacred. You never, ever break one, no matter what. And that is ultimately why he had to be stopped; Miquella's ideal world was a crayon drawing brought to life, a childish fantasy of utopia where everyone is happy and nice all the time and no one ever fights each other. A beautiful fantasy, possible only if you destroy all complexity in the world and brainwash its population via magic. Such a world would certainly be a much gentler place, but I don't think it would be a _good_ one. Not at all.

@@hameed In theory at least 1 of the 3 pre-Altus great rune bosses is optional as you only need 2 for pogression, so he is both optional and not depending on how you go about it, he's also part of Ranni's quest so if you wanan do that you had to kill him eventually

I actually like the correlation,it's radahn restored to his youth,so it should be triumphant,but it being the same as a funeral march ties in well with the fact that Radahn is not actually there,he's merely a puppet in phase 1,in phase 2 his soul returns but it's clear he's not acting off his own actions

Morgott chilling in the capital: "Hmm... I wonder what those willful traitors and that foul tarnished are doing, haven't seen them in a while..." Meanwhile Miquella in the Gate of Divinity: "Okay Radahn, this Elden Lord guy seems pretty strong, now go into the athmosphere and nuke him"

I’ve played every fromsoft game and am a vet, however my issue is the holy aoe follow ups are just too much and borderline unfair. ​​@@gamerthedude3321i agree, this Boss finally crossed that too much line, is pure eplypesy, some of the attacks are nearly imposible to dodge, at least without being on light load, the huge AOE that he does, if you don't run away inmediatly, you get hit, i just opted to block and is extremely agressive, btw, i Saw It on YT, avoid getting grabed twice at all cost, or you Will get a gesture ( and getting defeated instantly ) It toke me 2 hours with 40sh deaths and that's with scadultree level 15, the bleed arm that is pretty op with cragblade, golden vow ( incantation ), almost level 200 and even then, i had to used divine lords fortification to finally beat It, Imagine if i use a way less optimized build with less scadultree and no buffs, at least 120 deaths for sure And yes, this is by far the hardest fromsoftware Boss, malenia is a cute inofensive women comparated to this

So Ansbach is a warrior of Mohg, and Mohg is building a dynasty. So Ansbach is literally a Dynasty Warrior, aight I'll finger sever myself out.

Controversial opinion, but this is a STEEP upgrade from the original fight. Yea he’s unbelievably hard, Miquella’s hair, god rays, and lightspeed attacks make it hard to figure out what’s going on at first, and the cross slash combo requires very tight positioning to avoid, but at the end of the day, his attacks can still be dodged, and there are openings to attack. I’ve been craving this level of extreme but fair difficulty forever, basically since I beat Bloodborne

It's really similar to what Ranni does but everyone loves her for some reason.

The whole song is a masterpiece to me. That second phase transition [ 3:00 ] when the choir hits, I get MAJOR goosebumps. My whole body reacts, like the music is preparing me for something and my body is listening. Then the second phase ramps up briefly [ 3:47 ] before it hesitates, and releases softly but with power. The very structure of these 10 seconds paint an image in my head of a god slowly revealing themselves before looking down on you softly, yet with pity. The combination of the bells, drums, horns in the background and the absolutely GORGEOUS female vocals [ 4:00 ] actually make me cry for a moment, almost consistently every time I've listen to this, just for the power it invokes. This is compounded 10 fold when it reaches its next plateau [ 4:58 ] and its as if at this point everything divine that could possibly be presented to you is laid out bare for you to witness in all its glory. I absolutely love this musical creation. Holy crap.

The second part of the OST is truly beautiful, it captures feelings of the divine celebration of miquella's ascend to godhood but it also captures the struggle and magnitude of us fighting to stop him and perpetuate the status quo. It really makes you feel like two gods fighting for their own vision of the world.

i just heard 14 hours of this in the game and somehow i want more.

Idc what people say about this boss. Consort Radahn is legitimately a perfect final boss for Elden Ring. You are fighting a champion with assistance from a god. He will take everything at your disposal for just a fair match and i love that.

Yep, it’s one of those bosses that you hate at first but grow to love over time, like many of the hardest bosses in the series. Just need more people to get over the hurdle before they go online to shout their premature opinions

Phonemenal theme for the most fearsome Empyrean and the strongest of the demi-gods. Amidst the choral vocals you just catch the word "Marika" on the most wonderful bit of melisma and you're enraptured, just as Miquella would have you. Perfect.

4:42 How it quiets down and builds back up is INSANE.

Best part of DLC is this OST! Banger 11/10!!!

Miquella: Radahn, if you want to be Godfrey so much, why don't you be... the Godfrey to my Marika *wink, wink*.

@@eldendynast Fun fact, Radahn refused Miquella's offer to become his consort back when both were still "normal". Which is why Miquella concocted a whole convoluted scheme to have Radahn killed by Malenia and himself abducted by Mohg, all so he can resurrect Radahn in the Lands of Shadow as a compliant meat puppet, that *then* can be his consort. Radahn's completely innocent of doing anything untoward. If you want to throw shade at someone, Miquella deserves it, because that boy definitely ain't right.

@@moriskurth628 that’s not true actually, if you look at the datamines for all of it, Radahns armor set said he vowed to be miquellas consort when they were young actually. Another armor set mentions malenia whispering to Radahn during the fight that it’s time for him to fulfill his vow which Radahn never says no to. It could still be debated I guess but freja the girl with Roman looking armor has lines mentioning her wanting Radahn to return and even says it’s what Radahn would want so I’m not so sure Radahn was against it. Freja mentions he just wanted to battle first before becoming the consort and maybe that’s why he hadn’t returned to Miquella right away before his fight with malenia. We still don’t know why exactly they fought yet but it could be Miquella wanted to enact his plans sooner or part of the deal was for a battle with malenia to satisfy his battlelust before settling down as consort and Elden lord

The most heartbreaking thing about the Elden Ring DLC is that no one. None of your tarnished brethren survives. They still die. You truly are alone at the end of it.

That was the intended effect, and they handled it masterfully Their is no ‘righteous path to lordship.’ There are just paths with fewer corpses strewn across it than others. That’s all

Radahn being the true Final Boss makes SO much sense in hindsight. It explains why Malenia suddenly went after Radahn for seemingly no reason. We know that Mohg kidnapped Miquella, but that's because Miquella coerced him into doing so, so that the Formless Mother would purge the Golden Order out of him, making way for him to ascend. Malenia immediately assumed that it was Radahn who did it, and now we know why. It also explains why Radahn was blocking Ranni's destiny; because he and Miquella already had previous plans. I can't believe no one saw this sooner. It's such a great twist IMO.

malenia knew of the plan, in radahns dlc helm description, its revealed that when they fought, malenia whispers to radahn of the promise miquella made with him

I have mixed feelings, but maybe in game it will make more sense. Radahn is very cool, but i kinda expected someone more epic as final boss. He was like first serious boss in main game, and very easy too (after his massive nerf). It is interesting plot twist. Though if they wanted to make Miquella Griffith like puppet master, they could make us fight both Malenia and Radahn, that would be crazy... Throw Mohg on top and add many NPC summons for help, for overall epicness.

No it is not? There was not a single clue in the game suggesting Miquella had any sort of relationship with Radahn. Worst even, Godwyn was the Demi-God with whom Miquella bonded the most (Malenia aside). This is genuine terrible writing.

Not to mention that in his armor description, it says that Malenia whispered to him before she nuked the whole continent, she said that Miquella was waiting for him. You can literally see that in the story trailer of the main game.

@4:42 Ahh.. when I heard this in the story trailer I had a gut feeling it had to be connected to Miquella. Even after finishing the fight.. I still get chills. Bravo, FromSoftware.

4:59 really puts in place whats at stake in this fight,if you fall here,miquella will being about his age of compassion which will remove free will from everyone in the lands between,and assuming you've beaten the main game before the dlc,there would be nobody left to stop him,you really are fighting to save everyone's free will here

I love that the first phase of this OST is essentially his original second phase score as the Starscourge, but returned to its former glory much like Radahn now (even if against his will) when we fight him in the DLC

So from my understanding Radahn did promise Miquella to become his consort, but something happened, perhaps the shattering, and Radahn either put the whole thing on hold or outright went back on his word. Now I'm not sure about the timeline but if he stopped the stars right after the shattering started this would make sense because he would be stopping his own fate of becoming Miquella's consort. After this, Miquella sent Malenia to defeat Radahn, on the guise of getting his great rune, but in reality he wanted Radahn to die so he could get his soul, as evidenced by Malenia's words while she used her rot attack-"Miquella awaits thee, O promised consort." However Radahn doesn't die in the fight, and instead ends up roaming the land as a half dead demigod for many years until the main character comes to kill him, pretty much helping Miquella in the process.

My theory is that Radahn saw the shattering as a way of surpassing both Godfrey and Radagon, so an age of endless peace was not what he wanted. Hence the conflict with Malenia. Is very interesting tho, because this explains why Malenia spared Godrick, she was not interested in his great rune, only on Radahns head.

Radahn never wanted to be his consort. The promise was between Malenia and Miquella. She promised to deliver Radahn to him.

@@connordelaney4087 He was talking to Radahn, "if we honor our part of the vow, promise me you'll be my consort" It seems they made a vow of some sort and Radahn agreed to become his consort if the vow was honored.

5:42 til the end… Insane hype. Head-on fist fight for supremacy after all gimmicks have failed. Miquella just spectating at this exact point. Tarnished and Radahn have locked eyes with burning passion, hearts ablaze. Elden Lord vs New Lord, toe to toe. COME ON!!!!!

i sorta feel like phase 2 isn't miquella and radahn's theme, it's what miquella THINKS his and radahn's theme should be. he's about to usher in an age of "compassion" after manipulating, controlling, and betraying basically everyone around him that probably involves charming the entire lands between into worshipping him, yet there's this strongly heroic orchestra still playing for him in the background. like miquella has charmed even the background music into working for him.

dude idk why i had a dream where it was like 2008 and i was playing CoD World at War campaign coop when suddenly promised consort phase 1 kicked in and fucking floored me and turned the whole level into an inferno

1:21 these vocals on my first encounter with this guy really gave the “final challenge” feeling.

During my final (succesful) attempt at this boss, the choir build up at 4:55 was synced up perfectly to the meteor attack in the final stages of the fight. Felt like I was in a movie.

Masterpiece Magnificent ost Spoilers: To think...to think that the "beef" between radhan and malenia was because of miquella and not the war of the shattering

This is probably one of my favourite boss tracks. Having Radahns theme slightly mixed and then to the music played around Miquella in the story trailer, perfection.
