Symon Oliveira we wanted ANSWERS to the Xenomorphs and he gave us everything but that in both Prometheus and Covenant and the answers he did give us were shit and just plain insulting to his own franchise (like shoehorned Xenomorph origin in Covenant)

Ridley is a genius. But he overthought it. This example is not in this video but in another discussing the missing dialogue from Engineer awaking and killing humans, without a word, which makes sense from the Engineer's perspective, but not for the audience. Sometimes you have to dumb things down to make it work. To tell a story you have to always keep the audience in mind. This was so close to being an incredible movie! Visually stunning at least!

Robert Woods they didn’t go with it cause people complained about it being more about engineers than aliens so they veered from that in the next movie. People wanted it dumbed down horror side rather than the origin angle etc

It looks bigger because of the mount it's sitting on, and the biological looking flight suit it's inside of. Without any of that, it would not be far off the size of the engineer in Prometheus.

Perhaps the engineer in alien was still growing even after it died-there are multi biomatter that can live in symbiotic stages so that when the creature as a whole dies, there are parts that are still alive . Inactive, but still growing.

I’m so disappointed that they killed Dr. Shaw off. It’s like they were scared to take the movie on the path that it was going, so they made it more about those foul aliens. I wanted to see her get her answers. That was so disappointing.

Wow! The script actually made sense. Why on earth didn't they go with it?

I actually liked "Prometheus" and, to an extent, a good part of "Alien: Covenant", but as a fan of the series I think the script for "Alien: Engineers" was the only and definitive prequel to the series. Obviously they changed it just to explore more things (aka answering some questions and creating other ones) for more movies, a typical studio decision.

The engineer was a badass too bad they did not fully exploit this movie

yea. kinda sucks he didn't go with the original idea. i mean, its less confusing and itd be almost a direct prequal.

My theory is this - David has been the villain almost from the outset. Were the Engineers really going to go to Earth, in the first place? Or were they developing the black goo to wipe something else out - namely the Xenomorph-like figure seen in the mural? The Engineer seemed to get angry and aggressive, only after he examined David - and came to realise that humanity too, had created something dangerous in the android. The Prometheus crew relied on David to translate and convey information to them - I believe David was following his own motivations rather than Weyland's or the crew's instructions and was lying to them about things. In Covenant, I don't think we saw the Engineer homeworld itself, but rather another species they created and visited regularly. There was no advanced technology evident, save for those lights in the quarters. Quarters that looked scaled for normal human sized beings, not 8 foot tall Engineers. IMO there is still an Engineer homeworld out there, and I wouldn't be surprised if they turn out to NOT be the central villains in this whole saga. The whole story is about trying to play God, and the risks that come with it.

Others have come to the same conclusion as you, that it was just another planet seeded by Engineers, or an outpost of a smaller race of them.

I think that was a great video. And all this information makes my head wanna implode. I hope Scott keeps his word and continues the new line up of films, regardless how much revenue they generate.

Sounds like a much better movie. I was pissed at Prometheus for unanswered questions and lack of continuity.

what bugged me about Prometheus was that when they landed, they went into this warehouse, or whatever it was, and saw all those things that were obviously manufactured. After all that searching they finally had proof of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. So had did they react? Zippo. The just wandered through it as if it were a bus station in Albany, NY or something.

Ridley Scott lost it.. what sucks is that fans are being dragged along in this nonsense..

Because of the idiocy of the public and the studios, the best part about Prometheus, the mystery surrounding The Engineers, was jettisoned for another ho-hum monster story in Alien Covenant. Prometheus mostly suffered from the monster bits getting too much in the way of the intriguing "Where did we come from" story that truly resonated with me. Studio and public pressure. They feel like mish-mash movies with too many chefs in the kitchen. I REALLY wished to have seen more of the Engineers, and was hopeful at the end of Prometheus to follow the ship "home," to explore more of this world. Instead, the ship led to nothing but monsters. Boring. I'm not religious, and yet I love these "spiritual" stories that explore the conflict between belief and science in even an otherworldly form. The reason it was called Prometheus, despite being set in the Alien universe, was that it was NOT supposed to be anything directly about these fucking monsters. We, the public, are largely to blame, because the studios are convinced that all we want are reboots and sequels to classic movies. This movie was SUPPOSED to be an interesting workaround to that tired ole premise. Dammit! There's a reason why the recent trilogy about non-humans in the Planet of the Apes is the best one we've seen in years: We need to stop putting moronic humans in charge. Ridley Scott is not on his game, for sure, but this is moreso a problem with allowing external pressure from suits and idiotic fans to convince him to reshape his creative voice by committee. We've seen that movie already: Alien vs. Predator, occasionally very entertaining TRASH, but ultimately less resonating than a more interesting piece of art. I NO LONGER CARE ABOUT THE THIRD UPCOMING FILM IN THIS SERIES. IT'S BEEN RUINED. I DON'T CARE ANYMORE. SIGH.

Wow, this makes Prometheus make a lot more sense. As it is now, it's just a very cerebral movie about the created vs the creator, oh and there happens to be some alien-like critters. It's neither a very good cerebral movie, or a good alien movie, but a very shallow version of both. I like Spaihts' original ideas a lot more, simply because it seems to know what it is, whereas Prometheus as it stands now doesn't really have it's own identity.

Of course most people would have loved it this way far better than the final product. The most powerful emotion of mankind is fear. The most strongest kind of fear has always been a fear of the unknown. We as humans HATE what cannot be definitely answered. So much so in fact that we will make up answers at times just to satisfy that very apprehension. But the very goal of cinema is meant to take people where they don't want to go and show them what they don't want to see. The final product of prometheus was meant to inspire more questions than answers. And in so doing, is far more beneficial to society than a film that, like most others these days, thinks FOR the audience instead of engaging them to use their own brains.

Maybe the death of Shaw on their trip to paradise turned David against the engineers for revenge.

My idea for an alien tv-series is as follows: It takes places just before the events in the first alien movie and happens on a planet near where the nostromo spaceship is shipping ore. Weyland-Yutani is on the planet and have terraformed it for years,when they discovers a cave with lots of xenomorph eggs. One of them get's infected and a xenomorph is born. It turns out to be a queen,and a lot of the Weyland-Yutani humans are infected and then a war breaks out. All the humans on the planet are wiped out and only a few manage to escape in a spaceship.Then they nuke the planet from orbit. Then Weyland-Yutani regrets the decision and a hunt for the xenomorph begins.They get a tip that there's a crashed spaceship on lv426 and sends the robot Ash on the Nostromo spaceship. But they are informed that the mission has failed and that Nostromo has gone missing.Then Weyland-Yutani get's a tip about an xenomorph on Fiorina161 and sends a team of researchers there.They finds a surviving prisoner that is impreagnated and a queen is born. Weyland-Yutani then wants to use the xenomorphs on the planets where the engineers are located because they want the technology to seed planets with life. They also want the elixir that provides humans with prolongued life.After they have managed to give birth to a flock of xenomorphs,they drops them on an engineer planet and causes everyone of them to die. Then they get hold of the blue elixir that gives prolongued life.But several ships with engineers that where away from their planet when Weyland-Yutani wiped the population out,pursue them and manages to get the elixir back,but gets trapped on the planet where both parties crash.Then a battle takes place and the crew from Weyland-Yutani gets the elixir that gives them prolongued life for thousands of years,but they are now trapped on the planet,with no means to get anywhere.But then they see a light aproaching,but is the spaceship friends or foes ? It turns out it is the engineers and after a battle they gets hold off the blue elixir once again,and that gives the cliffhanger for a second season that we must wait several years to see???

Actually sounds cooler, but I still prefer the name Prometheus, I would have liked if it followed this story aside from the final engineer/space jockey ending, I'd still rather there have been a sequel where they go to the engineer home world and learn more and after events transpire there then it finally links up with Alien.

I liked the script they filmed better. AI's that turn on their creators are common enough in fiction, but in Prometheus it is done better than other stories I've seen. The delusional power of being a god is an interesting theme. I would have cut back into the film some of the deleted or altered scenes. For example, the comment "anything else?" from Weylan is a much stronger line following the statements of Vickers in the altered scene. I agree with some of the commenters below that David did not wipe out the engineers, but only another race that they spawned. I like Covenant very much and consider it to be a better film. I sure hope they make Awakening.

The space jockey in the first Alien movie looked like it had been there for many eons, and it is far to large to be the Engineer in Prometheus

The tear drop ship that was hovering over the plaza was the Engineers ship and the people had gathered to honor them when David's ship arrived. When David released the biogenic goo and start killing the people below the Engineers realized what was going on and start firing on David. That is why David's ship was found away from the city. The Engineers had to leave until they would be able to come back and remake the planet again.

It was actually said in the book version that one of the engineers had hit a switch that disabled their own tech, which caused David's ship and the big Scorpion looking landing dock to come crashing down. Some people also think that their was so much goo released it also messed up the ship because it was actually a living ship and was affected by the mass goo. Lol both sound kinda cool

People complained about Prometheus cause of the engineer story line rather than a dumbed down horror angle with the xeno’s well Ridley changed covenant cause of it . Should have stuck with the engineer angle . The numbers agree.

I wish they went with the original script.

Everyone seems to have their own plot for the Alien movies dreamed up, and when they get something different they start whining. Now just imagine if you went to a movie, and exactly what you expected to happen happened......

Original script sounds more like a prequel than either Prometheus, or Covenant. I got a bad feeling, that Scott is going to try and reboot whole Alien saga. FOX, sure as shit, would love the idea.

Alien Engineers would have explained the original question of who was the Space Jockey, bringing the film series full circle. Ridley Scott could have taken the story in any direction he wanted to afterwards.

I would like to know what david said to the engineer in Prometheus before the engineer tried to kill everyone.

Covenant gets a nice 2.5 out of 5 for its genre. If there were not so many unanswered questions regarding the sudden shift in the plot away from Shaw and her being murdered then perhaps it could have been better. Such a strong bad @ss in Daniel's yet she waits until the end to ask David about the cabin? They're all doomed until a speculative analysis suggests Walter is still alive and will radio for assistance with disrupting David's quest. Hopefully in the form of space Marines. Until then I figure he's headed back to LV223 to perfect his work and load up the ships there with lots of eggs created by a possible queen. Then, somehow select unwilling/unknowingly implanted volunteers to pilot the ships to their destinations where one makes it to LV426. After that the rest would be history aside from possibly learning the fate of LV426 prior to Hadley's Hope. It would be a horrible shame if the planet used to be a hunting ground for the Predators....

I watch this movie not realizing it was part of the whole alien movie franchise was hoping that and there was more about the engineers they really should make a movie that's more focused on the engineers now that would be a very good movie

P Torres hell to take it further for a pilot to start shooting wildy at a creature in the ship she has to fly back off planet. Even in a state of fear I'd think you'd be more likely to grab that gun and run towards the rest of the crew than shoot holes in your own ship.

There was also the neomorph growing between screen shots: Show newborn neomorph, change shot-reaction, neomorph is now larger. (continue as plot demands larger neomorph) Having them already on the planet would not saved on time for plot development. But also would have meant them film would have to rely on a fixed number of neomorphs. In other words they can be a persistent threat and on the viewers mind. Doubt is always a good tool for suspense: "is there more of them or not". What other unknown creatures are hiding in the woods, unheard, unseen. Only to randomly appear and kill or capture a crewmember. The film lacks fundamentals for the sake being a vehicle Ridley Scott's philosophical rhetoric. It basically a creationist movie made during a period of increasing secularism. Focusing of cosmic horror and unknown of space is a better plot point than saying "We made androids (artificial life), then who made us?". Most the audience wants to view strange worlds, advance alien civilizations and the terrifying creatures they created. Although Ridley Scott continues to subvert what the audience wants, because he cares more about using a popular franchise to force his own beliefs on others.

Oh God yes!! That sounds MUCH more cohesive than the endlessly esoteric claptrap that was put in the film. A totally unsatisfying experience all round (and the purging of the Shaw character was bordering on criminal, especially when the new ‘heroine’ with the dark hair who wants to build a log cabin bollox, was totally vapid and about as charismatic as David’s ring piece!!)

I thought this does seem like a much more interesting story than what we gt in Prometheus.

the planet where David killed the engineers was not Paradise. It was a colonistplanet with a lesser version of the engineers.

As an avid Alien fan and old school dark horse collector, I always look for nods too the canon. Promethius, is just artistic...despite the holes and weird scripting. It feels a bit like a reboot of a reboot, these days (e.g. the entire alien cinematic universe) and hopefully the next one seals the deal. By far the best potential sci-fi franchise. It should have a television series what with the huge hits and convenient cgi these days.

This version seems like a much more sensible and rounded story, but guess it would have made any further alien movies, or at least covenant kind of redundant.

Liked the concept of the original script. It would have been less confusing than the final movie version.

The original script was more faithful to the Prometheus Mythology, but understandable that Scott wanted to make more movies. I hope he uses the Zeus factor to some extent.

I read somewhere that Joss Whedon wrote a script for a sequel to Aliens, where the Space Marines fight the Aliens on earth.

One plot hole I can see is that the Engineer in Alien was about 5 times the size of the one in Prometheus so it can't have been the same one
