THE PROFESSIONALS: MARTIN SHAW AND LEWIS COLLINS ACCEPT THE TV TIMES TOP TEN AWARD 1981

a short clip with Martin Shaw and Lewis Collins accepting the TV Times Top Ten award.
I'm not sure, but there might be bits missing from that appearance. My apologies if that is the case.
A big thanks to the lovely ladies who provided this clip.

He was OK for a TV show but he would not have been a good Bond. He was an average actor and he didn't have the physical finesse for a spy role. I'm sure the Bond producers would have gone for him if they rated him highly enough for an international audience.

The segment in which he is paying tribute to their Producer shows all the ingredients why Lewis would have made a terrific Bond. The guy had the lot- Hollywood looks, wit, charisma and that earthy self effacing charm that made the Professionals, for this kid, so watchable. There was always something teasing about his delivery - cant think of another word- and I especially liked how he appeared not to take himself seriously. My small tribute to the Bond who should have been.

I think it was not so 'teasing' as 'wicked'. Always that twinkle in his eye. Such as when he says "Us...". And making Martin laugh. Which apparently he did a lot... Yes, I agree about wit, charisma, looks, charm, self effacing attitude. But don't forget just how much he did for handicapped children. Lovely, lovely Lew, who was always willing to take the mick out of himself. 😘😘😘

Lewis Collins was very naturally funny and he could also be an excellent mimic when the mood took him. I remember in a scene from an episode of 'The Professionals' called 'Long Shot', where he did a spot on impression of old Western films stalwart Walter Brennan. It never fails to make me laugh. Lew should have done more comedies (as well as lots of other different types of parts) once 'The Professionals' ended, instead of just simply doing more action roles, as he was clearly very good at them. Sadly, he ended up being terribly typecast in mindless action films forever afterwards as a result, before ultimately dying at a relatively young age. A terrible shame.

Grew up watching some episodes of The Avengers and The Saint over here in the colonies, Texas to be specific. Never heard of any other British detective series. Thanx to KZread, I stumbled across The Professionals. What a series! I wish all the episodes would be put on KZread for the world, and present and later generations to enjoy. I have since also come across other British classics i.e., Adam Adamant, The Baron, The Champions, and I can only imagine what other classics are out there that i might go to my rest without knowing they existed. I did not know know Lewis Collins had been considered for the James Bond role. Of course i agree. He would have made an excellent 007. May he rest in peace knowing that he has brought joy to this new fan from Texas, as I am a fan of the rest of the cast of The Professionals and 1960s, 70s British shows. God bless. Peace and love to all. Keep the faith.

@@jk-ri1pf I second that. All of them are available to buy on DVD. In the case of 'The Sweeney', there was a 'Pilot' TV film in 1974 called 'Regan' (after the late John Thaw's lead character Det. Inspector Jack Regan). That led to four series of 'The Sweeney' itself (spread over 53 action packed episodes) and two cinema spin-offs. A timeless, classic TV show of it's kind.

He's having difficulty following what's going on because he's also got Lolo Ferrari on his lap pressing him for attention. There's a Scottish mate of his wearing a knowing look over a pure malt scotch, and Roger Moore is watching intently, hoping to pick up some tips.

Matin Shaw's acting is very poor in parts (it needs a good coat of Cuprinol),he blames the script but Lewis Collins seems to handle the script fine...

I've read years ago that Martin Shaw was supposed to be 5'10 as a young man, while the late Lewis Collins was just an inch taller at 5'11. However, by looking at this clip here, there appears to be at least a three inch height difference between the two of them. I'd put Shaw at no more than 5'8 in his flat feet, whereas Collins looks a legitimate 5'11, as he stated at the time. So while filming the series, it looks like Shaw was wearing lifts in his shoes to look a bit taller and also slightly exaggerated his own height.

Seems completely unreal to see them...especialy Lewis C...together but oiut of their "prof" role. I kept expecting him to biff someone. I remember talk of the time they hated each others guts...if they did it wasn't apparent there. Good.

No - FAR superior to Starsky and Hutch! Partly because they never took themselves too seriously - and were often ad-libbing to add humour.
