A rich Texan, J.W. Grant, selects three men and invites them to his private train to offer them a contract: Rescue his wife who has been kidnapped by a Mexican revolutionary. The leader of the men, Rico, decides they would be a better team if Grant would hire one more man, an explosives expert. Grant quickly agrees and soon the four are off to complete the contract. However, while on the trail, they discover some interesting facts, like has Mrs. Grant 'really' been kidnapped?

I remember seeing this last year, and never hearing about it before, decided to watch it. I was blown away by how good it was.

If you haven't already, I hope you can find Valdez Is Coming. It stars Lancaster in a vaguely similar scenario; one man scurrying around in the same kind of terrain and the same era, picking off his pursuers.

Most people don't realize the movie is an allegory for the Vietnam War...
Been in love with Mexican women ever since I first saw this movie fifty years ago. Thank you Chiquita.
Saw this 4 nights in a row(Before the Beatle's"Hard Days Night" took the weekend slot) as a Senior on my way to SF training. It spoke to me, never forget it!
That isn't one man.... That is burt Lancaster.....silly person. Burt does that.😊
Burt and Jack -- great combination. BTW, Jack Palance was a good guy in this film.

I wouldn't say the actual good guy, he still played a bandit after all. 😉 But not guilty for the crime he got blamed for by the other more evil guy.
My favorite on screen dialog about revolution takes place between Jack and Burt.

I LIKE THAT DIALOGUE!!!!
How many times have I watched this film? Top favourite Western. What a stellar lineup!
My favourite western. The thinking man's western.
Back in 66 my brother and I saw this movie, thought it was the best. Still when we meet it is always Burt asking her “anybody” and she says “everybody.” Pretty hot language back then. Great movie and great cast.

I wish I was a few years older then, instead of a 5 yr. old in '66. You older boomers had it made. I saw some of these films on tv after they were already 3 or 4 yrs. old. I wish a lotta things were still the same as the mid & late '60s. The universe has warped badly & there's no garage machine to bend it back.
Great Western.
One of my favs!!!
Yet another classic film
He was quite the actor!!!
This is one of the best movies of all time!
The fall at 6:09 is one of the more impressive stunts I've seen in a Western. Reminded me of Red Dead Redemption
1966 Good Movie with All-Stars Cast.

Poor defensive tactics. Instead of sleeping he should have scouted for a better position. He had two rifles, lever action Winchester and bolt action 1903??. Keep one and put second in retreat 2nd defensive position. Take out first group where they only could retreat (high canyon walls). Blame it on Hollywood. Burt would have listened to me.
