The 2022 Pokemon Card Illustration Contest is starting soon - giving artists the chance to have their illustrations become a Pokemon Promo card. But what are some important things you should know? From what place should your drawing come from? Which Pokemon will you draw and how will you bring them to life? And will you be lucky enough to find your Pokemon card in a Booster Pack or Booster Box?
Luckily, Kouki Saitou has some extremely helpful tips for up and coming artists! As part of the 2018 Illustrator Grand Prix, Kouki Saitou explained part of his drawing process and demonstrated to fans how to draw Eevee - one of the most well known Pokemon next to Pikachu and Charizard!
This video is based on a fan translation of a Creatures Inc article. The interpretation and explanations in this video are based on the original article by Kouki Saitou and Creatures Inc.

I’m glad there’s fans out there who appreciate the artwork , and how much the artist puts into their work , not like scalpers who only care about the value

Really educational vid about the Pokemon illustration process from start to finish. Appreciate you taking quotes from Kouki Saitou on his thought process. Makes me appreciate the artwork a lot more even with the commons and uncommons! So many channels focus on the money aspect of Pokemon cards, so it's a breath of fresh air to watch one focusing on the design process.

This may be your best video yet! Unsurprisingly, the process is very similar to other card games but it is always interesting to see the artist perspective. I don't think many of us (myself included) realize how much time is dedicated to creating just one card, from the illustration to card effects. Also, Creatures are 1/3rd owners of The Pokemon Company, along with Nintendo and Game Freak! Given how popular the TCG is, it's crazy to me how many people don't realize how involved Creatures are in the franchise. A lot of English collectors for some reason have this idea that WOTC created the TCG when it was Creatures.

I feel like non ultra rare cards do not enough recognition from people just because the drawing is not a full art card. But there is so many beautiful common cards out there. Love the video but sadly it brings a tragic memory in my childhood...Roughly around when the Pokemon aired on our 📺 and before Pokemon TCG was available in stores. Like most kids, I feel in love with the series getting up early just to make sure I didn't miss a second of the show before school. At that time I was inspired, filled with passion to draw all 151 Pokemon and so I began to do so. I took out a red notebook like if it was a Pokedex with enough pages cos you know I "gotta draw them all" as suppose to "gotta catch them all" :P And everyday I would dedicate my time and effort to make sure my drawing was spot on or close in resembling to the pokemon and mind you (I still remember clearly) it was not so bad for a kid. I have probably filled my notebook about halfway each page dedicating to a pokemon and at this point I wanted to showcase to my class and friends. But unbeknownst to myself of what will transpire later that day would have me in ruins cos as you would have guess it...it was stolen from me. My blood , sweat and tears was poured into those pages and never to be seen again. No one ever owned up to it sadly nor I would ever feel passionate to draw again cos it would leave me feel angry or empty right after I complete a drawing. And by the time pokemon TCG reach to our hands it didn't resonate with me as to many others kids and sadly I would have trust issue soon after as the back of my mind I had a hutch that one my friends might have but I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and put it behind me. .... Anyways thx for reading btw 2 decades later love Pokemon just don't draw unfortunately yet if I was able to participate I would. Peace ✌️ Y'all

Title is misleading .. it should be how a Pokemon artwork for a card is made. The actual process of making a pokemon card is different

are other point, the expansion theme, is very important takes count the theme are meaning of the set, for sample the contest of this year is "dyali live" for sample galarian rapidash are can stay in glimglow forest meanly are walk to take care of nature, cramorant to fish arracuda or try to eat anythingk in english version is difficult to see the temes because are mixed, but for sample the new expansion, of the mew, can see is like a "futuristic" city, these elements can see around in all cards the special of jewery more cards are cutie, are soft, like a photo on are show the more cutte possible, other expanion are takes count the steampunk elements etc or other are see a lot of flowers is very important pay atention to theme are meaning for can done the card, because the illustration of card are can feel are tell a history

That is very true! I love how each expansion has a new theme that all cards share. Genesect V Special Art is so closely linked to the city theme, with Mew as well, they're all linked in the same city and era + setting. It's a beautiful extra touch.
