You make a lot of great points But complaining about the looks of a watch YOU picked and bought is insane
I have loved every timex i have owned. Yeah, the value for money might not be there but I have enjoyed each one.
I love their designs, but you are absolutely right when it comes to value and QC issues. I have bought several. The lower-end basic watches are generally ok. It starts going sideways when the price point jumps up and you start looking at chronographs, mechanicals and autos. The specs are rarely impressive and the QC issues are plentiful.

Yep! It's sad really. Timex has a fantastic history that should be celebrated. Just not with these watches.
the problem with timex is they don't pay ali express promoters 🤣🤣
I’m inclined to agree. I’ve had lots of watches from Timex, most of which I’ve returned. However, I now have the Marlin Chronograph panda dial, which I really enjoy. It’s not a spec monster but it’s a lovely watch in all other respects.
My first watch in the early 60’s made me happy and so I felt grown up
Timex is good example of how you can ruin a good brand name by relentlessly outsourcing you production without any eye for quality. I avoid them like the plague. Marketing alone doesn't make a watch.
The thing that bothers me is even the expensive ones are chromed brass and mineral glass. Their quartz diver is almost THREE times the price of a similar Casio Duro !! I love the style of my Expedition Field watch, but the chrome is all wearing off and the indiglo has died ☹️

Yeah, the Tiburon is expensive. It has some QC issues like being quick by more than 40s per day, lume is not consistent with hands lasting about 20minutes and markings lasting through the night. Wa disappointed and returned it. 500CAD for this is way too much,

I am glad somebody said this , i enjoy my weekender(38mm without the chronograph) and my expedition but one of the UFC special edition got the second hand stuck because the positioning of the minute hand didn't have enough gap between the minute and the second hand. The market they are competing with is ruthless , they shouldn't release so many models every year and focus on quality control.
I have a timex expedition passed to be from my grandpa and I really love, it, but also given that model was not in the video

Yep, got a Timex Expedition Chronograph for £55 in march, by the time it had arrived in april prices had gone up to ~£180. I'd like to see a £11k Rolex appreciate 70% in just under a month
Last year, I bought my brother a Timex expedition north watch with sapphire glass and solar. It's got to be one of the most handsome watches with a strap change EVER. The case is sandblasted, so I'm not worried about polish imperfections. There aren't any QC issues on the hands(they're thin with an arrow at the end), and it has a basic military style. Listen, everyone and their grandma (literally est 1880s) knows timex uses cheap, non brand mechanical movements, so you shot yourself in the foot there. Secondly, Timex is the last manufacturer I think of if I want intricate details/QC like a swiss, considering they do make thousands of watches(not even hand built), I'm not gonna cry about it because I knew it was a problem. I'm not a Timex fanboy at all but as a novice watch collector I was aware of these issues with timex long before I ever bought one, they make cheap watches, there's going to be silly mistakes and totally uninspired designs that will look LAME(charlie brown x timex). I took each factor into consideration when buying that expedition north. I'm pretty happy with it.
I have mixed feelings on your perspective you've presented on the value of Timex watches. Some of your gripes, especially related to QC issues, are spot on. Even with the low cost, some of those QC items mentioned is unacceptable. I have four quartz Timex watches myself (yes, I love quartz for their accuracy and durability) and fortunately, I haven't had those QC issues on all 4 of them outside of the hands not lining up on the indices at each tick which is an issue I have on some more expensive quartz models. I have a version of the 36 and 41mm Expedition model watches, along with a JDM only "trench" watch and a Q Timex. I concur on the overall poor quality of the straps used on the Expeditions. My straps' holes are fraying, even those I don't even use on either watch. Definitely poor quality straps. I have no quality complaints about the "trench" watch or the Q. However, based on the prices I paid for the expeditions (approx $35 ea), I really can't complain about that. I got what I paid for. These models are brass, coated cases which is disappointing but understandable at this price point with low quality straps. Non of these are no heirloom watches but intended to be beater models that I enjoy the look of while they hold up for as long as they will. As for the mechanical movements... well, what were you expecting? So they are small, cheap Chines movements. Do they do the job? I wouldn't be purchasing a Timex mechanical model expecting a world class movement quartz OR mechanical but you're right about the value NOT being there if paid at retail for any of their offerings. In my mind, you get what you paid for when you pay the actual market values of the watches. I haven't paid MSRP for any of them... always purchased them at a steep discount.
Timex now is basically a shadow of its former self 💯

@jorge23483
23 күн бұрын
Well, I think they're not, old Timex watches, from the 1980's or even the vintage ones were pretty much cheaply made and affordable watches with a consumer minding a budget, their automatic movements were jewel-less and practically disposable. I think they're now more into better quality watches but contrary to Invicta (old vs new) Timex never has been a high value/high specs watches company. But yeah, nowadays with the Marlin and the Jet they're launching more interesting designs, however their bread and butter are cheap watches like the Expedition, Easy Reader, and weekender lines.
I guess we don't need to ask you to get the new Timex Titanium Automatic GMT with the Miyota 9075 to review then?

totally agree - superb watch, grade 5 titanium which you have to look to Omega or Grand Seiko for models
Hear me out..I’m not a watch snob at all, most my watches are affordable casios. BUT there is something about Timex, that I just can’t bring myself to wear. I don’t know what the blockage is.
The thing I hate most about the Timex quartz watches I had was that it proved impossible to open the snap-on case backs to replace the batteries. These were pressed into the case with such a force that I broke my tools on them. Even a watch shop owner had a "WTF" moment.
@mad_6519
19 күн бұрын
Yep, heard a few pleads for mercy coming from the back of the shop, while the owner came up and started interrogating me on what sounds it made when it came off in the first place
Love my Timex Q, just something about it that brings back to my wrist. A solid partner in the midst of my dearer watches!
I've always had a soft spot for Timex. The Weekender was my gateway watch to collecting and my 41mm solar North field watch is my EDC lately. I'd love to get my hands on the Timex Jet if it ever comes back it stock. I think for most of us that like Timex we know that, like Citizen, you absolutely never, ever, pay retail.
Great reviews, well done.
The Timex intelligent quartz range was a great range of you were after interesting combinations, plus they had a fly back on their chronograph.
Are you getting your hands on that new Citizen small seconds?
I have 8 from the brand and have bought and sold many others. No matter how good they look I always feel let down when I feel it in my hands. The one in your thumb nail felt especially cheap. I think I paid $80 and after receiving it I would not have paid $10 for it... The upside is I loved the look so much I pulled the trigger on the Omega it possibly was paying homage to. Somehow after all the let downs, I still will buy more because it's the brand I grew up seeing my dad wear as his daily.
Timex expedition rugged.bulletproof and cheap.and I go through watches.and it grows on you
I really like their Q lineup (except the bracelets on the Q reissue). The Expedition North line up is good just over priced. The iron man watches are really good. But overall I think like you. Materials most of the time are questionable (metals and movements), and they are very over priced on most of their more premium watches. They are a bit like Seiko when colab with another brand they mark up the price up the roof.
@TopTierTicker
24 күн бұрын
Yep! I agree. They charge silly amounts for those collabs. I handled a friend's Q and I wasn't impressed either. The bracelet was hot garbage. Pulled the crap out of my hairs when just trying it on once.
I have a timex expedition chronograph as my work watch and a timex q gmt chronograph as a weekend watch, both bought way under msrp. I love them both even with a lower spec sheet and qc. I can’t get into most of the Casio designs and am willing to take a “lesser” spec watch to look at something I thoroughly enjoy. I’m a timex fan in terms of a reliable watch that I like the look of and don’t expect a lot from
100% agree! And you didn’t even mention their digitals are twice the price and half the quality of an equivalent Casio. They are a shadow of their old selves.
I bought an expedition field watch from a high street jewellers a few years back. After a couple of days I realised that when pressing the crown for the Indiglo feature the crown was sticking in and not springing back out. I got an exchange for the same model. On the second one I noticed after a week that the time was lagging by about 40 minutes so obviously a problem with the movement. I gave in and got an AVI-8 instead of a similar design and have had no problem with it. I do have a timex GPS for when I go out on my bike but I’m not buying another quartz from them after that. Very disappointing when you consider how big they are and how long they’re been making watches for
Great video! I own my fair share of Timex watches. My first Timex I got was a Christmas gift back in 1986, a Q-digital, kind of a dressier watch. It still works and looks good. But, outside of specials and clearance items, the new ones just seem so expensive for what they are! It's to the point where very few people under the age of 40 have ever heard the slogan, "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking." Nostalgia can only go so far. They need to up their game with higher end movements and materials. If they did that, without increasing prices, people may consider them more!
Some of the designs are pretty good (Q, etc), but they are having a bubble with their pricing, for what you get (crappy mechanical movements included). I bought a field watch recently and the crown just would not push in for the indiglo feature to turn on. I took the caseback off and tested the contact to see if it did light up. It did. I put the caseback on again and promptly returned it.
I do have some reservations with Timex. They make the inside of their watches over complicated and the battery draw is significant with indiglo. They also have this annoying habit of putting friction fit case backs which are just a pain in the butt (I have to use a pill case bottle to get them back on). They often use base metal in a lot of their lower end watches, and it is a sub optimal metal that scratches the zinc/chrome coating. They have some really handsome watches these days, the Expedition North range is amazing and they have some real tempting watches but I am hesitant.
I bought the watch in the thumbnail because it looked amazing. I now have it listed on ebay lol you're very right, for me there's just always some little thing that's off, like on this one the size and lugs just weren't it for me.
I think you’re being petty. I have a few Timex watches that I love. I have that same Chronograph in a different color, it’s beautiful and I’ve gotten several compliments on it plus I just love looking at it. I also got the Timex and Raised by Wolves collab watch and it’s awesome. I feel like the stuff you pointed out, most non-KZread content creating watch enthusiasts aren’t going to care about. Like the stuff you claimed about the dial of that Standard I couldn’t see at all. Could be just me, but I do think you’re over exaggerating a bit
Like you I went through several metal case analog Timex watches over the years, including the Waterburry and Expedition North models, but in my experience, resin case Timex Ironman digital is the only Timex worth considering. It's my main beater watch, and I like it even more than the DW6900, my other beater. I think Timex watches look good from the distance, but I would never look at one under a macro lens. For that matter looking at any cheap watch under 200 euros and expecting perfection is missing the point. Just wear it and enjoy it.
@mad_6519

I agree with your last point. Below a certain price range, watches tend to become more of a tool than an item of jewellery
I love my weekender 38 no chronograph, to be honest is my everyday watch (Monday to Friday) but I don’t think I’ll buy anything other than more weekender when mine dies 😂 you should give the weekender a try, yes the ticking is loud but it just relaxes me and looks great
I started out 1.5yrs ago with 2 cassio and 2 timex. Although i dont think i would by another timex, Im very happy with my weekender 38mm and quartz expedition. Cheap but good looking warches that do get worn. No qc issues. Moving onwards and upwards but glad to have them. I also have an original Marlin but the mech has just failed 😢
My first enthusiadt watch was a Weekender chrono. Love it to bits. In fact, I'm wearing it right now. The only problem is the reset button sometimes doesn't do split times. Otherwise it runs, feels, and looks very solid. There are many more Timex watches to try: Just to name Q Timex, Expedition North Titanium, Ironman, Marathon, and I think yoj should give the indiglo chronographs chance with other designs, like Expedition or Weekender
I’m really glad you did this vid. I’ve seen many Timex that looked the bees knees, but I’ve always suspected all of the problems you’ve mentioned. Saved me some cash. Cheers! 😎👍🏼
I have three Timex and LOVE all three.... because of what I paid. I have the Timex M79 automatic in black that I paid a whopping *75* USD for!!! For that price it is one of my favorite watches. The other two are white dial basic plain Target 40mm quartz and a 36 mm white dial quartz from my grandfather circa 1991
Spot on 💯 I'm in the same boat after owning 3 Timexes and 3 Casios (among few other brands). I know which of these 2 brands my future $ is going to. The only Timex I get any satisfaction from is the green dial Marlin 1969 homage, and mainly because that's my birth year.
Your not wrong but this is like a car expert and reviewer says a toyota camry is dull and boring, and the specs are all you get nothing more. That's the point! Timex like toyota are low cost but get the job done with the drawback of no excitement. You cant expect greatness from $40-$80 watches (besides casio. Thinking about it now casio is more like toyota and maybe timex is more like honda). They just do their job nothing more, nothing less. Now i agree that i wouldn't really want to buy any of the higher priced timex's at $120+ but thats like spending 50k on a fully speced camry, no matter how much you spend its still a camry. If you want a more exciting car spend your 50k somewhere else. Now QC issue are a big deal, ive owned 3 timex's with no issues but thats not to say there all perfect. But lets not forget about sekio's infamous QC issues, but people kinda just laugh that off at this point. Buy 3 seiko divers and i guarantee at least 1 of them will have a misaligned bezel.
The mechanical 36mm was a steal for £70 no matter what flaws uve found with it this piece has a huge following im sure lots would offer to take it off your hands...As for the camper theyre great fullstop..See ive a soft spot for timex theyve so many faults as uve stated which for a company that are really old you'd expect alot better..that i totally agree with you on this yet it was my 1st ever real analogue watch back in 1979 military black dial 34mm domed crystal piece so kinda keep an eye on the brand in general ..Great review my friend as TIMEX do have flaws and a lot !!!!
I bought a Timex Expedition from a car boot a few weeks ago for £2, popped a battery in and it works so absolute bargain! But I agree, generally they dont make great watches. The Marlin is nice looking, real vintage vibes but a bit small for me. I hope @thewholecut was sat down for this one! 😂 Cheers Kieron, great video as always 👍
The only problem for buyers outside of the US is that Timex watches are often more than double the price of a Casio yet they are inferior in just about every way. They must be priced the same as Casio in the US, no?
Spot on, Kieron…these aren’t your grandfather’s Timex.! Only one I owned of “Casio quality” was the “camper” you mentioned back in the ‘80s. Cheap plated cases, snap-off backs impossible to remove, second hands that bounce and rarely hit their markers. Compared to the Casio MRW series with it’s crazy accurate Miyota quartz mvmt and the amazing Marlin/Duro, Timex is garbage. My $21 Casio MRW200H-BV at $21 USD hits every second mark, doesnt “bounce” and is accurate to +2/sec per month! Thanks for stating what needed to be said! 😎
I own quite a few modern Timex watches (and a truckload of vintages, but that's another story). I do understand how some of their more basic watches can look and feel cheap. That's because they are. But what I'd call their middle-tier offerings are surprisingly good, especially the Q reissues. Some of Timex' collabs are also worth noting, like those made with Todd Snyder or Worn&Wound. The Giorgio Galli models are also impressive, but they're probably more oriented towards true Timex collectors.
What about the Timex Waterbury Traditional Day Date quartz ? This one seems to be the best Timex on budget. I was hesitating buying it, but as I already own a Timex that is TOO LOUD !
The Easy Reader and Weekender watches are great. They can be found for under $50 and wear like iron. They may have crept up to $67. But I just saw their their collaboration with the James Group for $787. Heavy gray automatic watch that looked like a lost G Shock.
I had to get the Flying Ace Snoopy Marlin cause it looked pretty nice and love it. My gf loves her mechanical 34mm Snoopy Marlin too. The packaging on both watches was awesome. I still prefer Casio and Hamilton though 🙂
I have had a few timex watches and every single time, I regret buying them. I once took a timex on a backpacking trip and ended up tossing the watch mid way due to how loud it ticked (quartz)…. It was terrible. My timex Marlin just felt super f-ing cheap! But When I bought the Hamilton mini Murph, I fell in love. Then I replaced the leather strap with with an uncle metal strap …. *chefs kiss*
I think Timex’s design department is at the very top of their game. I am convinced Timex could take most everyone’s lunch if they bought the rights, or produced under license, better movements. Imagine a Timex with a higher end Miyota movement. Serious water resistance. Screw down crowns. Sapphire. Or, imagine a Q with a Seiko 8f clone. Or a Timex that just flat out buys outright Swatch’s VHP. Yes, definitely a more expensive Timex, but that much more?
The only selling point about timex is the Indiglo, otherwise kinda hard to justify it. I don't think we got another budget analog quartz with backlight dial as consistent as Timex I can understand chrome plated brass but a plastic resin watch with $65 price tag? They really made casio general sound much more reasonable

I do enjoy the Indiglo. It's certainly a cool feature. It's hard to justify all of the problems and flaws for it though
I have the Marlin 34mm. I like it despite the Sea-Gull movement; as an occasional dress watch, it does the job very well. In its historical heyday, Timex always made cheap watches that were ultimately disposable; the movements were screwed onto a plate and had no jewels, making them unserviceable compared with a modern mechanical movement. So the Sea-Gull, for all its faults, is actually a step up.
Um.. I know Im an idiot in every watch guy's eyes, but i have a special place in my heart for Timex watches. Just dropped a good deal on a Mido Multifort so I can buy some watch parts to build 2 seiko mods and of course to buy a couple of Timex watches 😂😂😂
The 34mm marlin is my favorite watch. Trying to collect them all.
I figured full movement replacement was their business model vice offering replacement parts - so neither being commonly available is suprising. Definitely would make me hesitant to buy a watch with a Sea-Gull movement.
I've never crossed paths with a Timex but you seem to be going back to them. Now Casio is another story. I used to sell Casio in the late 70s and I'm wearing one now. We all like certain brands for whatever reason.
The new timex waterbury automatic is awesome. I love it for the price £250. Its my first timex. Leather strap.
I definitely understand your point and agree but I also think due to your taste, it just happened the ones you picked were some of the worst representations of what they offer. Of course just my opinion, I have had some I didn't like as well but I have also had several that exceeded my expectations.. but I also got them on sale so perhaps the price reflected that as well. Great video, keep up the good work!
I worked at a small business for approximately two decades, who's services included watch battery replacements and installing new watchbands. As much as I wanted to love an iconic and historic brand such as Timex, QC issues with their timepieces were all too common. I refused to own a Timex watch for this reason.
Take a look at the Marlin reissue with art deco 12-3-6-9, and the new Marlin Chronograph, and other new releases.
Timex usually gets it right in the design department. Sure, they sometimes pay homage to designs from much established brands but they do manage to make it their own. However, they are hit or miss when it comes to quality and the average specifications on most of their watches are kind of a let down.
My wife has the last one on a velcro strap as a daily beater. And she is happy with it.

Yeah, Timex could be a really ang for buck only if you catch some of their watches at the right price, I started with the weekender Chrono... Oh, boy that was my first disappointment and return from Amazon 😅. After the Chrono fiasco, I bought a normal weekender but with small seconds and some simulate patina that makes it look like one of the dirty dozen, later I found another weekender Chrono with the same faux patina and that's the only two weekenders I have, I've been more happy with the Expedition range but only because I developed an unhealthy habit of sniping watches (especially Timexes) on Amazon. Thanks for the video.
I love my Timex Q, great watch, gets a lot of wristtime, think they are doing great 👍🏻
I've seen some Timex watches I'd really like to buy and they're never available, they seem to have taken a leaf our of the Rolex playbook (TimexQ root beer, Marlin etc)
I struggle with Timex as well. I, too, have the Expedition North Field Mechanical, and I like it. But I didn't pay retail. To that end, I don't see any watches in their catalog that are good values at retail, especially with acrylic crystals. I've wanted a T80 for a while now, but I can't justify the price. It's hard to call them a value brand.

Timex often ticks too loud for me. Cannot place the quartz ones on my nightstand.
I never ever considered buying a timex and never will
If all you get is a hard to service and obscure movement the Marlin would be amazing if it was powered with a mecaquartz instead.
Oh boy! Here we go again!
I'm a Timex fan and own a handful of them and I don't disagree with your take on them.
I own a Timex Indiglo from 1992, everything still works. Different quality I guess back then, but don't we always say that about older stuff?
@TopTierTicker
24 күн бұрын
We only say that about stuff that is crap quality now 😂 no one says Rolex watches used to be higher quality... They objectively weren't. But I do agree, I think Timex's best watches are the old'ens
Seagull movement actually good and reliable. I fell in love with marlin. But to each their own he he
Timex is good at their Ironman series for the price. Outside this, I have an Expedition Field Chronograph & Solar Expedition Scout in gunmetal. Just have to wear them physically before buying.
Expedition North Field Solar 36mm. Great watch. The lume is weak. But it’s a great watch. The only Timex I wear.
Ive had my timex marlin since 1978....still going strong and keeps good time ! I must have the anomalous example.
The reason I could never get behind timex watches is that, even though, yes, the dials looks clean and highly readable, to me they just look like the dials of bland generic cubicle office clocks. I wouldn't want that aesthetic on my wrist. If would siphon on my soul every time I'd look at it.
I've considered checking out a few as they are so cheap, but then I remembered when I bought that same expedition and I dropped it when unboxing it. All 3 hands fell off the expedition from a 3 foot fall onto to the floor. It was the only watch ever that went straight into the bin. Do not buy expedition also. Save up for a Hamilton.
I have always believed that watch enthusiasts recommended timex because feel like they have to. They feel that watching enthusiasts want to hear that. I might own a Timex Sunday but I would rather buy invictas. People like to talk trash on Invicta but you get a lot for your money. And they don't just make giant watches. Invicta makes a lot of sizes.

I had a Timex Camper for 2 months before it stopped. I changed the battery,it ran for an hour then stopped. I threw it in the bin.
Hi there, I can fully understand your dislike of TIMEX, however, you never talked about the High end TIMEX 🤔 I do not see any T2M706 reviews 🤷♂
It's hard to find an authorized Timex dealer and have to order their watches online without seeing them in person. That is a deal breaker for me.
Yes I agree, each time I buy a Timex, I leave dissappointed.
Agreed! Its been really really bad. About the only one i liked and kept has been the raised by wolves collab that they promised they would restock but haven't 🤦🏾♂️ . Vintage timex's are way better. Especially for the price.
I've had similar experiences with them. I do have two Q series watches that I think are quite good at the price I paid (50% of RRP), but would be considered poor at full price. I think Timex have copied Seiko's homework and are elevating prices without doing anything about design, construction, and quality.
I feel like almost all these watches are the cheapest models in their catalogue, their Q line of chronos and M79’s are much better, not to mention the multiple collabs they’ve done where they jump in price but also jump in quality big time
My significant other and I own a total of five Timex watches, most of them vintage, and we love them all. There's nothing wrong with your Timex watches either, they're just not very exciting... except for the Marlin and Expedition North, they'd fit in my watch box despite the crappy movement.
timex quartz watches are too loudy
These are sub $60 watches. Do they keep accurate time? My 36mm Indiglo keeps +/-0 seconds. Is it perfect? No. But I realize that I'm wearing a $40 watch. I get it, Timex is not your cup of tea. If you want to feel clearly disappointed with quality control, go review random Seiko 3 hand watches.
my favorite watch channel. and I only follow the best ones. just so u know 😏 😊
Had many Timex over the years my first was a 1980 Made in Britain man wind boys watch about 34 mm. I still have it and its still going strong. in 1977 my Christmas present ( i was 12) was a LED 55Q boys watch that ate batteries back when they were not cheep.I still have this and its still going . These were well made watches and at a reasonable price. Move on to 2001 and i bought a Timex Humvee digital great watch and they go for quite a lot now if you can find them, still well made but in china. Lately i have bought a few Timex and they are poorly made un inspiring knocked together chinses crap to be honest that would not go 1 round with a Pagani Design. No they are not what they were but they try to play on a great heritage that they had But i think if Mr Timex were alive today he would not be happy.
It always annoys me when the watch in the thumbnail isn't in the video.
The only timex watches worth buying are the weekender and expedition scout line which are around 30-40 and 40-50 dollars respectively i think that those prices they actually have some of the best analog watches for the money besides that they use cheap amterials and insane pricing
i love my timex camper but damm its loud
Agree 100%!
I know what you mean, Timex is really good at promoting their models on their site and they routinely sell out of collabs, which would have you believe they must be great watches. I’ve gone through many and sold them all, except for my Timex Gali S2.

Exceptionally overhyped in terms of quality. I find it fascinating how so many reviewers rave on about them and I've never had a good one...
