Wally's mistreatment during the last years becomes even more painful to watch when we consider that, shortly before the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, he got tired of being a hero and decided to spend his time on his girlfriend and his studies instead, retiring the same time that Dick Grayson stopped being Robin. The fact he decided to replace Barry after his death, just when he finally got used to having a normal life, shows what a bro he is

Sad thing is that everything Barry is "known" and loved for was 99% all Wally

yeah even the personality and way of acting as a person was Wally West but blonde,im sure because of the early popularity of wally they made barry like him,I remember watching Justice League Unlimited and flash was my favorite character for example,and it was Wally,now i see Barry and Wally and they are the same character.

It's more or less. I think the only thing they took from Wally and gave to Barry was the personality, but the origin story, love interest and the villains are still Barry's.

Barry's interesting origin and relationship with his mom are all thanks to rebirth and flashpoint which in total is 12 issues or something (n52 run is bad and williamson run is 6/10). So the fact that many think these are some of the most relevant factors of the flash mythos as a whole is thanks to cw show whic is cool but just make the distinction. Also even though some villains such as rouges are original barry allen villains, they are given much more depth in waid's and johns' runs, and MOST speed force related characters(black flash, savitar, zoom...) are wally characters. Even reverse flash is given such a cool backstory thanks to the concept of a speed force developed and presented beautifully in the wally era. Many think we have wally thanks to barry, but a person can only love barry thanks to wally.

wasn't it Wally who made the "lightning rod" quote for him and Linda I remember seeing it in the Dead Heat storyline. And Barry even get's some of Wally's villains in the new 52 storyline

We really do need to have a discussion about how for the New 52 they decided to reimagine Wally West as black, and they immediately decided that meant he was now a disaffected inner city youth with no father figure whose only hobby was tagging. There's SO MUCH to unpack about those decisions.

@@trevturp6891 Barry is literally the one without a title. Current Flash ongoing and the one that will launch in September is all Wally😅 it’s been like this for two years now. Funny thing is the two flash miniseries coming up also has nothing to do with Barry.

You make good points. A real shame how DC treats Wally West. Had a great opportunity with DC Rebirth to do something awesome after Wally's return. They need better leadership.

Wally West was one of the only heroes that was successfully able to become a headlining legacy hero and it worked phenomenally, his personality, his character growth from sidekick to mainstay JL member, his family and his relationship w the wider universe were all so fleshed out that you couldn’t help but see him as the definitive flash, Barry while classic doesn’t compare to Wally and all the trials and tribulations he’s gone through, even with the CW Flash he picks up A LOT of core traits Wally had which left that version of Wally West w nothing to stand on character wise, it’s a shame new DC fans are unaware that Wally West defined the Flash for over 25 years and gave us all the things we live about that hero

I agree. it annoyed me that when watching the CW show how many times I would go "That's a Wally thing" when they did something with Barry. They even had Barry date Linda Park for a bit and that was a slap in the face to Wally fans.

The problem with Wally West is that Barry Allen didn't stay dead. Geoff Johns just wanted to bring back the characters he grew up reading regardless of the repercussions it would have on the existing DC universse.

Most fans who came in from the CW series or the New 52 will never understand why we fogies keep yelling at clouds about Wally West. Suffice to say, it's a little frustrating that a lot of people won't know that Wally West is the Flash that gave you a lot of things that fans like about the Flash today. Plus, everyone loves a "I'm in someone else's shadow"-type story. Barry's only competition was Jay. And no one thinks Barry was in Jay's shadow. Nobody.

I’ve always been torn between Wally and Barry. I grew up with the Justice League shows, so technically I grew up with Wally, but Barry just feels so right as the flash as well. It hurts to see Wally cast aside for so long though

Why not do what I do and take both? I grew up in a time Barry was dead, so Wally is the Main Flash, but I also spent some time appreciating Barry as the Flash as well. Personally, I love both and desire if they can Batman & Nightwing them both into Comics.

@@trevturp6891 The issue with Barry & Wally has nothing to do with their names. Green Lanterns, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, etc. all share names with other characters existing alongside them. Issue with Barry & Wally comes down to portrayal and/or even the fact that some fans behaves as if Barry was created in 2009 and stole everything from Wally, including his suit. Barry is a Introverted Science Nerd who's Privately Central City's best CSI, willing to do what's right because it's right. I can also add that he's a Momma's Boy. Wally West is an Extroverted Jock who has a Public Identity of being The Flash, or in some other stories, Privately a Mechanic. Willing to do what's right because it's what Barry would've done. He also has Family Issues. They should highlight these 2 distinctions, and give both characters their own respective run. Stories that makes Wally move to Central City, have a Private Identity, use a Generic Flash suit, work with the Police (or in Jeremy Adam's Case: in a Lab), etc. causes some fans to be confused. What made Wally special was stripped away from him when Geoff Johns wrote him back in the 2000s. They should at least give Wally's suit more differences rather than white eyes and nose job, since it's pretty clear most Comic Artists still gets confused.

@@baligong3592 The Green Lanterns are a Corp, Not sure what you mean with Wonder Women, and it really isn't the same with Spider-man, every other Spider-person goes by Spider-man or woman in their respective universes, and even in 616, pretty much every other Spider-person has their own personal persona, other than Miles who shares Peters name. The Scarlet Spiders sometimes share a name, but Marvel's been Screwing over Ben Reilly for a while now.

Wally and Peter should crossover and discuss how terrible their lives are 💀💀

Minor correction. The Savatar story that explains away Heroes in Crisis takes place after Wally gets and gives up the Mobius Chair.

Wally West proving that he's DC's Spider-Man is one of the grimmest and purest moments of my enjoyment with the series. No amount of happiness can be given to him forever, since if he's too happy... [Insert Problem]?

Wally was manipulated by thawne using the negative speed force, and the explosion was due to the speed for basically trying to remove savitar with speed force energy surges, flash foward ended with flash becoming dr manhattan enhanced in exchange his kids are restored

Wally is the only sidekick to filly take on the mantle of his predecessor and also maintain that title for more then a decade! Bucky took up Cap for a short while, but no other sidekick has ever surpassed their predecessor in popularity other then Wally West, also one of the few superheroes who didn't have a tragic story with his family murdered... Give Barry the emotional drama, let Wally be happy!

Wally had one of the most well thought out journey in comics as a side kick to filling the shoes our your Hero, Idol, and Father figure. They could have taken him off-world so he could still be in the same timeline and universe snd still be friends with Dick. But instead its this convoluted nonsense.

Wally is my favorite Flash, and the rebirth suit is his best. Legacy characters are amazing, the classic titans deserve more respect.

Remember when Bart Allen was meant to be the Flash but was sabotaged? I still remember....

Wally West is the Peter Parker of DC. Eternal punching bag who the writers can never let experience happiness for any substantial amount of time.

The problem with Wally is that Barry’s still alive, and now that Wally was the flash for so long he can’t reach his maximum potential with Barry around

Sounds like the issue of the character at that point. It's like saying Nightwing's issues is that Batman is Alive. If all these characters like Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Batman, Captain America, etc. can overcome their losses of other characters and still not have issues, even if they [the dead Hero, or even Villain in some cases] comes back to life, then Wally West should also not have the same issue. But if all these characters do not suffer, but this one particular character became garbage from another one coming back to life, what does that say about the character?

If Wally isn't Outside the shadow of The Flash, it would mean the title of The Flash is bigger than Wally, making him more susceptible for replacement despite having great stories. Artemis, Donna, and Diana are all the Current Wonder Woman, are all Greek, but all 3 still get stories to this day. What one Wonder Woman is can't be replaced easily with the other. I believe Wally is bigger than the Title. It's seems already clear Barry and Jay are too. Barry the Science Uncle Flash, Jay the Soldier Grandpa Flash, Wally the Fast Flash? The Family Flash? But now even Jay Garrick is ripping that Specialty away from him. What I'm trying to do is get you to thinking "what makes Wally something bigger than The Flash?" Because if he's just "The Grieving Flash" like some perceive him to be, then he's going to get absolutely bullied by Editorial, Writers, Artists, etc. Like Heroes in Crisis.

Wally West however was a successor and truly grew to earn the mantle of the Flash. He's not the grieving Flash or whatever the fuck kind of labels you wanna put on him. He is the one and only Flash.

Wally West is among my favourite heroes and it was really tough to see the treatment he got from DC. I'm glad he's back in his classic Flash Costume, and I hope he can get back to adventures with his family. Classic Wally West comics are the perfect blend of action, wholesome moments and character growth.

Honestly for the longest time I've been convinced that DC writers hate the fact that Bruce Timm created a universe with incredibly popular characters and have gone out of their way to erase them all I mean think about it how long have Wally West,John Stewart, Martian Manhunter, Static/Milestone been getting short end of the stick at DC. Wally West was the only flash I ever knew about, I rewatched the 2 seasons of Justice League animated series on dvd/Netflix over and over again growing up; especially when Batman revealed his identity, Wally and Flash became inseparable in my mind. I was actually shocked when I found out about Barry Allen. “Wally West is Kid Flash from teen titans?” Was my first thought

I loved Wally West because of the Justice League/Justice League Unlimited cartoons he was my favorite Flash and he was awesome in the books early on but then the books especially stories like Heroes In Crisis just kept doing the character dirty and they just kept ruining him, I just want good Wally stories I hope they bring him into the movies one day

1. They tried that, but Wally fans got upset about the story, and had Bart killed. 2. Barry didn't stagnate The Flash, since the original plan for Barry was to reintroduce him and continue the stories... Like how they did with Every Single Hero and Villain. 3. Don't blame the character since the character wasn't created in 2009 to replace Wally. He was simply brought back. Blame the Writers/Editorial for wanting Wally gone. None of us would say this about any other characters, let's not start now with Barry. We wouldn't even say this about Spider-Man who has been screwed over for 30 years out of 60 years of his existence.

Thank you Benny -- your video helped ease my pain when it comes to this character. As a teenager in the 80's, the only comic I read, each month, without fail were issues 275-350 of The Flash. Barry Allen was my favorite character in DC Comics and I was crushed when they killed him in Crisis. I thought there was no way Wally could replace Barry, but I gave the new Flash book a try -- and for 20+ years, Wally surpassed Barry in my mind and became the definitive Flash. I did love when they brought Barry back in Flash Rebirth, but little did I realize that it certainly was the start of the horrible way DC treated Wally from that point forward. First they basically phased Wally out of existence in the New 52, but NOTHING was more painful than when they had the audacity to bring back "Wally West" as a street thug who had absolutely no ties to the last FIFTY YEARS of great Flash stories -- Yes, this "Wally West" was black, but that was not the problem - the problem was he was named Wally West. Had they just called this new kid any other name, at least the incredible heroic legacy of Wally West would have remained intact, but they wiped all of that out in their quest for diversity. As you stated in the video, they did bring back the true Wally West, but then immediately made him do things so out of character in Heroes in Crisis that just made me ill that I stopped reading current issues of DC Comics. Thanks for letting me know that they ret-conned Heroes in Crisis and gave Wally a reunion with his wife and kids. Sadly, you indicate some pathetic, lazy writer just killed him once he found happiness again -- which make me think my decision to stop reading current DC comics was the right one.

@@DiscernedWaters. Sadly, that is exactly how he was written early on when he was first introduced. Even DC’s own website says the following: Wallace R. West Wallace grew up as something of a delinquent; he was disobedient and a troublemaker. When Wallace's mother went missing when the Crime Syndicate tore through Central City, his aunt Iris West took him in but even she couldn't keep him out of trouble.[3]

Actually the first terrible thing DC did to Wally West was not giving his own superhero codename, a brand new superhero costume, and his own book, after they brought back Barry Allen.

those who watched Justice League will understand and love Wally; this is why I hate what they did to him. He was the Flash that a lot literally grew up with.

Abra Kadabra is a 1987 Flash villain not a Titans villain. Also Barry came back right before Blackest Night.

I learned about the flash mainly from the cw but i like wally in the comics and this might be wishful thinking but i think they should really make a tv series for wally for the fans.

Exactly I'm glad Benny had sense to point that out, the moment the click of the gun was heard Wally should have already disarmed the guy man, ugh these writers are ridiculous this is what happens when u write overpowered characters

When you're watching the problem with the flash family and immediately the problem with wally west shows up HELL YEAH

At this point Wally West is dc version of Spider-Man because he can never be happy

Even as slow as he was after COIE. Wally had been shot in the back of the neck in a movie theater, but his speed kicked in instinctively the moment he felt something touch back of his neck. And he was able to catch every bullet fired and save the crowd, And this was when he was speed of sound tops. But they expect us to believe he can be shot from behind and it just takes him by surprise? These idiots need to READ about the characters they write

So they basically made Wally the Spiderman of DC

Wally has been mistreated in ALL platforms! The disrespect! The comics finally brought Wally back and then killed him off like 4 times, He died in the Titans comic, the Hero in Cirsis, One Minute War, and now the Newest comic. The Flash TV show barely did anything with him, The DC Animated movies didn't really have him in it at all, Wally isn't even Mentioned or reference in the Titans show, TITANS! which he is a FOUNDING MEMBER! Not even when Gar went on a weird trip around the Multiverse, they could have easily thrown in a Cameo! Young Justice, don't get me started on Young Justice. Not only did they kill him off (similar to how Comic!Barry was killed off!) the show got cancelled. then by some miracle the show gets a 2nd chance, TWICE! it got renew for TWO seasons and they didn't bring him back! They even did a whole storyline of one of the team members dying but not actually being dead and The team saved him, and it wasn't Wally!

I absolutely love these videos, easily some of my favorite videos that Benny makes.

It was right before, but the most notable things he did upon his return was the New 52, before that was the road to flashpoint, then Flashpoint

wally is just the character they have when they want to kill a flash at this point

I thought the Wally that dies in Titans #1 was came back from the future to warn the Titans that he was going to be shot. That's why he ren on the cosmic treadmill at the beginning of the book.

The problem with dc comic is they are stuck in a never ending cycle of reboot and relaunches, they don't what to do with the sidekicks(wally,conner,Tempest, donna Troy, tim drake) but they keep introducing new sidekicks for the same heros.

I love Barry more I think Since Rebirth he had this good storyline with GODSPEED and His whole Relationship with Commander Cold It was one of my 2 fav and the reason I wanted every comic Before this was just deadpool but with Rebirth i fell in love with godspeed was my fav . then Their was Metal Event Where we gotten a other great Speedster i would have loved to be something more but rebirth had good begin and ending , well Godspeed could had better ending but very end of the story left me with hope to see him one day as his Anti- hero self Then Come Wally west As the New Flash Aagain I liked his Rebirth suit but Now he had the classic on for no good reason he had his family i felt like we could had 2 Flash books going on but nope . So i dropped Off completely and Seeing this i know it Still doesnt feel like He is Worthy To watch i think he could work in new ways but they never going to do that

I love Barry he is my definitive Flash but the moment you bring a character from the dead unless you have a good plan for the new hero leading the charge you will either ruin the revived hero or create a problem for the new protagonist and one of them always turn into a villain
