Great analysis and thanks for the video! I'd dispute a few things here. 1) Consistent formation despite team rotation isn't an inherent negative, lots of top teams have built title winning sides on that same principle (including Chelsea's last title win under Conte), Man City in recent years (less so this season) have stuck to their 433 and so have Liverpool. 1b) Rotations have only really been caused by injuries. Poch has been very very consistent with his team selections when he's had players fit. 2) The Luton goal I'm not sure you can attribute Caicedo and Gallagher ball watching to Poch's tactics, those are mistakes. 3) As much as fans have loved to jump on them for the occasional wobble, Enzo and Caicedo aren't being played for their price tags. They have by far been the best options for CDM, especially with Lavia and Ugochukwu's injuries. You could maybe drop Gallagher in for one of them but he's a presser and lacks positional discipline. Aside from that I agree with pretty much all of it. Lack of mentality (tied to youth) being the biggest on the problem on the pitch coupled with only having one player capable of putting away goals consistently. I'm generally Poch in but of course definite room for improvement. Chelsea fans expect us to immediately bounce back into challenging for top four despite having only three of that starting line up still around (who have also been injured for most of the season). We dropped a lot of points early on in the season and suffered horrendously from injuries, but have been picking up form despite the frustration on the weekend. We've always said this is a project and some fans don't want to accept that as reality. We're 4 points off 7th with a game in hand, and Man Utd always look ready and willing to explode at any moment.

It's great that there is a Chelsea analysis video coming from a neutral party for once but the video feels very 'outside looking in'. A lot of the points made about Chelsea are partially correct but can be misleading as to how significant the problems actually are, whilst also lacking context. As a team that has been surrounded by extreme criticism the last 18 months, the last thing it needs more 'finger pointing' at failings without the full picture. The volume of Chelsea's spending is always mentioned but never the circumstances which forced the new ownership into doing it. I am not saying all of their spending was good (especially not that first summer transfer window), but almost all of it was understandable, given the context at the time

  • @i3p973

Jim I need a longer video of this because some of this was fascinating to hear as a Chelsea fan. It also assures that there are greater issues at the club that make an in-season hire more difficult to succeed.

The first point is mainly down to injuries, we actually have very consistent team selection aside from that. Literally only Gallagher, Palmer and Sterling have stayed fit and available, every other player has been down with injury for quite a few and in many case quite a lot of games. PS I'm not saying Poch is doing a good job, I'm just saying that that point is incorrect.

This was a great analysis, but as other Chelsea fans have pointed out, it only really points out some of out Chelsea's biggest problems like lack of consistency in the lineups and motivation, and leadership but avoids the more problematic ones. For instance, 1. The lack of consistent lineups have largely been down to injuries. Disasi and Colwill have been made to play makeshift fullbacks because all 4 of our actual fullbacks (apart from Maatsen earlier on) were/are consistently injured. This has been a recurring theme for 2 years now, and its probably less down to luck and more on the staff not advising the team well. This is apparent with all the muscle and hamstring injuries compared to the more freak ones, showing a lack of fitness prep for the players. Obviously, in the attack, with Mudryk, Madueke, Sterling, Jackson and Broja all being rather fit this year, his point about inconsistent selections is warranted on this aspect. This is especially the case with Madueke and more specifically Mudryk, who seems to never gets picked to start a 2nd game after being MOTM the game before. 2. Finishing Chances. Chelsea had outscored every team on xG every game till the start of Jan or Feb, yet they still languished in 10th. This shows how much they need clinical finishers, but with Nkunku out for most of the year, and when players like Jackson, Broja, Mudryk, Madueke AND SPECIFICALLY STERLING all missing chances for fun, Chelsea don't have that luxury. So, it doesn't matter how many key passes are made or where they are in the table on that stat, since if you're creating more chances (>xG) than the opponent every game, you'll have a better chance to win the game, but evidently Chelsea don't follow that trend.

I’m just tired of it man, I just wanna watch fun football but shit just collapses in on itself everytime, poch’s tactics are disjointed we are awful at defending counter attacks due to poch wanting his midfielders to act aggressively yet instructing the cb’s to be as cautious as possible leaving huge gaps for Caicedo and Enzo to cover which isn’t fair on them also Gallagher playing as a 10 hurts the team, idc if it should be a meritocracy either play him in a double pivot or drop him because he isn’t a good finished, can’t create and isn’t adept to holding on to the ball, always bugs me how ppl don’t get how Chelsea can’t score goals then say you can’t drop Gallagher it’s ridiculous whenever u watch Chelsea it looks like there’s no structure, there’s constantly a player defending out of position which is a result of poch’s desire to play this high intensity pressing football in all, poch is inheriting an awful situation and I feel for him , but tactically he’s setting Chelsea up so dysfunctional which leaves us so open, there is a good core team tho, Colwill and Disasi are good, despite what sky sports wants to tell you Fernandez and Caicedo are both great together, palmer’s elite , Jackson’s hold up play is brilliant and Nkunku is a great finisher, I’m sure when a new manager comes in and *refreshes* the feeling around Chelsea he’ll get it clicking

The first problem is entirely down to injuries…we’ve had to shuffle the back one almost every 2-3 matches because one gets hurt. I’m not sure what Poch is suppose to do with that. As for the season, we’ve been crap, but we are still very young and improving. People will say we aren’t, but if we could stop the hiccup goals at the end of match/stay focused, this team would be doing better.

As a Chelsea fan, I am now resigned to mid-table mediocrity in the short term. Most of the fan channels expect Poch to flick a switch and these players will turn into Chelsea of old. That is not how football works. If he's fired we are back to square one. A top coach won't want to inherit this mess, they want something to build on.
