The Problem with Ergonomic Chairs | QOR360 Ariel Chair Review | Passive vs Active Sitting

Are ergonomic chairs all that great? What's the deal with active chairs and active sitting? What do active chairs and barefoot shoes have in common (wait, what)?! In this video, I talk about ergonomic chairs, why active sitting is so important, and I review the QOR360 Ariel chair.
If you begin using an active chair, please note that you still need to be mindful of the way you sit. Awareness is half the battle!

Very cool chair! I learned a lot about ergonomic vs. active chairs from this video :) I also really like the parallel between shoes and chairs. Very good point!

So glad you learned a lot and liked the shoe/chair parallel. Once it hit me I was like "WHOA I GOTTA TALK ABOUT THIS!"

Great video! I would love to see an even longer time-lapse of sitting on this chair because I still can't believe it does work 😂

New subscriber here and I love your channel! Would love to see an updated work from setup focused on how active you made it. I liked your standing desk video too and saw you had a treadmill and various chairs. Would love to know what you think of those products now and what you end up using most often.

Interesting! I spend the bulk of my day either standing or sitting on the floor, and I try to move around whether I'm sitting or standing. I also try to focus on my posture because I find myself leaning to one side or the other a good deal Thanks for the review!

It sounds like you have a great practice! Passively standing or sitting for too long can have adverse effects so it's important to change things up! I tend to shift from one side to the other when I stand for too long. Once I catch myself doing that I usually transition to sitting!

For a while (till it popped) I was sitting on an exercise ball which seems to me could be classed as an active chair. I would roll a bit and slight bounce while working on my computer. Quite a bit cheaper option. I'm thinking about getting another but for the last few years I've been sitting with my standard office chair with seat tilled down a bit to take pressure off the back of my legs (better flood flow) and I sit on the front half of the seat without using the back support. The advantage is I can take "slouch breaks" (love that term) when exhausted. But I'm thinking about going back to a ball for more active sitting. This Ariel chair is pretty cool though if I could get my boss to approve buying one.

I was looking for a video on this chair as the site doesn’t actually show the possibility. The circular motion was the clincher for me. I am getting one

I'd be SO interested to see how this could help people with chronic pain, like myself. Could you reach out to the company and maybe have them sponsor some people with chronic pain and other disabilities to test it out? :)

How would you compare this with a kneeling chair like the variable balans? I am going back and forth between the two.

So how about those big bouncy balls for sitting when we need to? Are those good? They are similar to ariel chair in the way they move

Interesting video. I like the comparison to barefoot shoes. HOWEVER, this chair becomes super expensive if you're living outside the US. Does anybody know about alternatives that ship to Europe?

Tronhill of Lithuania makes affordable chairs. I just bought the Texas model and it's awesome. Will take some time to get used to using my core that much though.

No actually, I'm not sitting - I bought a mechanical height-adjustable desk about a decade ago I think (I work in IT so I'm largely tied to a computer). I wasn't using it as much as I wanted so this year I also picked up a Topo ergonomic mat, which is *amazing*! Now I spend about an hour on the treadmill with my laptop/tablet, and another 1 or 2 hours standing at the desk 🙂 ... I still get a stiff back, though - really need to get back into rowing, that also makes a huge difference!

You might already realize that although I suspect most commercial homeopathy practice is bunk, the principles in homeopathy of eustress & distress are important and valid as used in vaccines, exercise, and many other activities & pursuits, and hinted in the notion of 'active sitting'. The question I had was how the 'potato chip' critical curvatures were chosen. Each requires different muscle sets, and I suspect might be optimal for a certain body build & condition. However, I have seen no discussion of whether these were chosen for physiological/ergonomic or comfort (sales) purposes. Initially, you might consider inserting 4 foam wedges of firm (later softer) foam padding, Changing and eventually removing them as your body gets use to them.

Seems like a solid alternative since my employer wont allow a standing desk. On a side note, I've been using barefoot shoes for nearly a year now. They feel fantastic on one foot and not so great on the other. It is hard to tell if it is shoe or if I went too aggressive with the change and hurt myself.

It's definitely worth looking into! I am loving this chair the more I use it. It's been phenomenal! As far as the transition to barefoot shoes goes, I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with one foot! What exactly are you experiencing? Do you experience issues without barefoot shoes on as well?

There are other options out there and you can even alter the design instructions for the kid chair to make an adult sized chair if cost is an issue! I love that there's a DIY option!
