The Private Secretary 1935 Alastair Sim, Edward Everett Horton

Фильм және анимация

A comedy of mistaken identity, "The Private Secretary" was essentially a quota quickie from Twickenham Studios that starred Edward Everett Horton as a mild mannered clergyman who is impersonated by a young playboy (Barry MacKay), in a plot to deceive his rich uncle. Adapted from a famous stage farce the film allows a rare opportunity to see Edwardian actors Oscar Asche & Sydney Fairbrother, and in addition there is also a brief appearance by Alastair Sim in one of his earliest roles near the end of the film. "The Private Secretary" was shown twice on Channel 4 but has been unseen since this transmission in 1994, and has not been released on either VHS or dvd. The current copyright status of this film is unknown, but it may now be an "orphan work" as defined by UK law.

1935 not only a long time ago, but out of this world in social customs and culture. No cellphones. No antibiotics. No rappers... Excellent film. Thanks sincerely for post. A humorous film, professional 😅 genuine character actors. Edward Everett Horton one of my favorite humorous actors. 😅 Fox Hunt anyone ?

Quite a lot of historical interest here. It´s based on the ¨famous play¨by ¨the late Sir Charles Hawtrey¨. Charles Hawtrey of Carry On fame was no relation but adopted the name after the old man died. Quite a nerve! Meanwhile Kenny Everett, born Maurice Cole, adopted the surname Everett in tribute to the marvellous Edward Everett Horton, who was presumably slumming it on the British side of the Atlantic for this modest production, being normally a major Hollywood support actor. Great fun!
