This song, the subplot of Ray’s tragically misguided love for Evangeline, the pain of his self sacrifice and hopefulness to join her before he passes, but then the surprise of his uniting with her at the end is the best thing Disney has EVER done. Moving, sincere, funny and adorable.

@@squarebear619 it’s a joke . The joke was that he actually meant it . That scene is when Neveen actually falls for Tiana and as a person who’s actually from New Orleans. The new generation in New Orleans doesn’t know French because they took it out of our school system just to replace it with Spanish . Since more Spanish people is coming over to the country I school system took French out but we still have French in the city to where the kids can learn the basic and keep our culture going

I like the detail that Ray, who is Cajun which are descendants of the deported Acadians, is singing to a star, as the Symbol of the Acadians is the Stella Maris, and that the star is named after an Acadian folk figure who was separated from her love during the deportations prior to marriage, only to reunite on his death bed.

I cried when Ray the firefly died. lol Fun fact though, Jim Cummings who plays Ray as well as many many other disney voices grew up with my family in Youngstown Ohio before becoming famous. i love him as Tigger but my favorite voice he does is Darkwing duck. :D

Dresden, he’s my favorite character in the film. So cute & precious. He would’ve been the prince’s best man at the wedding. 1 of the names I created for 1 of my future daughters is Queen-Evangeline. I was listening to Ma Belle Evangeline from The Princess & the Frog (2009). I cried listening to that beautiful song because when Raymond sang the lyrics “ma belle Evangeline” I imagined me holding my newborn daughter & singing in the same melody “my Queen-Evangeline.”

What gets me about this song is the sincerity the actor managed to capture. No one has ever loved me even half as much as that firefly loves that star.

I love this song. I just saw this movie for the first time yesterday with my wife. We both cried, like, three times. His voice, tremulous and just that little bit off the notes sometimes makes him sound so much more human than most of the singers for the last twenty-five years or so, perfectly tuned, perfectly timed. This is better, more characteristic, more appealing because of its imperfections, rather like the character himself. This is one of my favorite voice actors, and I'm glad to have learned, recently, that he seems to have a great personality himself. He deserves his fame.

According to my research, Evangeline is not a firefly nor a star. But get this. Brace yourselves for this. As a matter of fact, Evangeline is the planet Venus, named for the Roman goddess of love. So basically, Ray is in love with the goddess of love, and in the end when he died, they believe that he is finally with Evangeline. So when he died, Ray is with the goddess of love.

Oh do it ....when my father heard the name Evangeline he said to himself this is a beautiful name when I have a daughter i will name her Evangeline and he did ...i am so thankful for that , he never regretted it.

Considering that Ray became a star right beside Evangeline when he died, I like to think that she was once a firefly too who was the love of his life and died before him. Perhaps Ray is fully aware that she's no longer with him and just knows that the star represents her, or maybe he's just so old that he's not all there anymore which makes him think she's still there with hin when he sees her star ❤
