The original season was like watching a short movie, every week! When they went to fighting monsters, ghosts, wierd figures, etc., I lost interest! Another show that was on in '66, was "The Time Tunnel", which should have been given a chance, but only lasted one season! Too bad!

When that TV season began, I had just started first grade. I'd guess the stagehands on The Andy Williams Show were rather concerned, seeing Roy and Dale riding Trigger and Buttermilk on stage...I mean, some things can't be avoided, especially occasional equine fecal catastrophes, if you catch my drift...

Thanks for more great memories, Fred! Man, they were really pushing color TVs on everybody around that time. I have two brothers and one sister. When mom and dad decided to buy our first color TV, I got the black & white for my bedroom and my sister got a portable black & white for her room. My brothers didn't have room for a TV in their room, so they just watched the color set in the living room. So, that was a great benefit of families getting color TVs --- the kids inherited the old black & whites that were still working just fine! I didn't have a remote control, but that wasn't too bad of a downside.

Nice job again, Fred! It was smart of you to dedicate this to the full season rather than just locking in on a particular Sunday, as network schedules often had changes & preemptions. 1:40 - Thanks for sharing both openings to IT'S ABOUT TIME. I was much too young to have seen it in primetime, but I do have the series on DVD (if I ever get around to watching it). I'm glad I wasn't in school at the time, as I understand there was a cruel variation on these lyrics "...it's about time I slapped your face!" followed by a painful face slap. I hope any kids who did that had to miss recess at least. Imogene Coca's character was changed from "Shag" (as you show here) from the pilot to "Shad" afterward, as "shag" had unfortunate implications as a word that Austin Powers made known years later. 5:40 - THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR didn't premiere until Feb. 5, 1967, as it replaced a flop revival of Garry Moore's variety show. It gave NBC's BONANZA a run for its money but gave CBS lots of headaches. 5:50 - I'm glad I got to see Andy Williams live in Branson w/ my parents back in 2003. He did a nice variation on his old tv Christmas shows (which I don't remember ever seeing in childhood). 7:13 - Before Harriet & Nellie Oleson gave him headaches as Nels Oleson on LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, Richard Bull had a frequent recurring role on VOYAGE. I've also seen him play city bureaucrats on a couple MY THREE SONS episodes.

The programming had just about something for all ages, if you were fortunate enough view them. As a child, you didn't have any say as to what you wanted to watch, So the television stayed on one channel and one channel only. That bastion of stodginess C.B.S. Nothing like hearing what the other kids watched the night before while at school he next day. Oh well, one can live vicariously through the tales of others if your imagination is strong enough.
