I admire the english passion for their football. Serie A prices , at least here in Rome, have been more affordable these past few years but European matches are still prohibitive for a family. Honestly, I am quite impressed. Fans in England turn up to support their team whether they be in the Premier League or 5th tier of football. I live in Ottawa and our team is in the Canadian Premier League, which you could say is the first tier of Canadian Football (soccer) - and our local team Atletico Ottawa doesn't fill up stadiums like Chesterfield FC. Shout outs to the fans, its wonderful to see this and our supporters need to do more to support our teams.

Not a footie fan but here is the story. I like rugby and used to attend Leicester Tigers every week with 20 kids from my son's school. This was late 90s. Kids tickets were £2 and adult £10 for unreserved seating. Tigers had a policy of 'unreserved seating' which was the first two rows of seats which were specifically targeted at the 'working class'. Still £2 each for the kids and £10 for me to watch top tier rugby. We always arrived 1 hour before the match to guaranteed centre pitch seats. Magical days. The kids all literally met the players from both sides pre match. Then... 'professionalism. No unreserved seating, cheapest seat £35. The end. They use child, slave labour to produce the shirts for cents on a dollar and mark up like this. It should be illegal!

They have to make money, and rightly so. Upkeep of the facilities (seating, toilets, etc). But the transition from a fun, affordable outing, to something that involves eye-watering expense is tragic. Your two-word sentence after the price of the cheapest seat says everything. (And even that price is pennies compared to the cost of merely being up in the clouds at the vast EPL arenas. RIP Goodison Park (and I don't even much care for either of the city's PL teams.). Such a crying shame.)

I admire the english passion for their football. Serie A prices , at least here in Rome, have been more affordable these past few years but European matches are still prohibitive for a family. I agree that the "lower" leagues offer a lot of emotion and spectacle. When I went to Argentina, i only went to one 1st division match but I attended a few 2nd and even 3rd division matches that were something out of this world.

I live in Ottawa and our team is in the Canadian Premier League, which you could say is the first tier of Canadian Football (soccer) - and our local team Atletico Ottawa doesn't fill up stadiums like Chesterfield FC.
