The previous OWNERS visit my CHATEAU - What are they going to say?

We get a visit from the previous owners of Lalande, the descendants of the family who owned the chateau for over 200 years! Since I bought the chateau, it has seen many changes, but I tried to keep the chateau's history and their family history present. But what will they say...

Definately! I have real Aleppo soap from before Aleppo blew up into a mayhem war zone, and it's olive oil and bayleaf oil dried in wood moulds under thr desert sun like leather, and looked exactly like the aged savon de Marseille when I got it and is the most creamy soap ever. It does need a proper ribbed dish as it leaves alot of soap residue otherwiize is all. Perfect to get on a rope as well. Wonderful for sensitive skin!

I think that Nick’s work on managing the forest has also has a positive effect on the wildlife you are now seeing and hearing more often at Lalande. Between the wetland, ending hunting, and managing the woods in a way to encourage the health of the forest, it seems like all the little things are adding up, and you must be making the right decisions, ecologically speaking!

I imagine there is a lot of healing and transformation going on behind the scenes along with the physical clearing we get to see, which all goes hand in hand together. Seeing the hallway transform and seeing you so easily get rid of stuff that clearly isn't needed anymore, it's wonderful.

You can really easily make liquid hand soap out of any bar of soap! I’ll share my recipe below :) Use 100g of soap for every 2,5 liters of water and 5 teaspoons of glycerine. Add any essential oil you want. Or add homegrown lavender buds😁 1. Grate your soap. 2. Bring your water to a boil and add the soap shavings. 3. Also add the glycerine. 4. Let simmer till all soap shavings have melted away. 5. Let cool overnight and use a hand blender to make it liquid. If you want to add essential oils/lavender buds, add them now. It keeps for at least a year :) I’ve been doing this for a few years now, to get through all the small hotel-soaps.

Weird, I read this this morning in a book... "Re-arranging and getting rid of, will make you feel as if you receive a spurt of energy and sparking joy. Constructive activity will remove layers of thoughts and actions that have been laid down before and that may no longer serve. Shifting and re-arranging shifts energy and allows new to flow in." That soap is beautiful. You could grate it down too, and it will dissolve easily. Can be used for dishes, baths, hands and clothes too!

Philip, Savon de Marseille is the best and is used in all French hospitals because of its PH good for the patients skin and its antiseptic and antibacterial qualities. Its odour comes from the olive oil and the traditional way of making it (no perfume). It's a totally natural soap and has been used for centuries for laundry and personal hygiene. It can be kept for decades. Besides Savon de Marseille (flakes) is recommended for washing new born babies' clothes for all its qualities.

Could Nick maybe weight down the root ball of that tree to keep it from uprooting and get a few more years of life out of it? With some artistically arranged boulders or something? Meanwhile a newly planted tree nearby could be getting some height established for shade when the damaged tree finally has to go. I know that might sound like a silly plan but I actually did that with a Japanese maple that was uprooting so much it was already starting to lean. We cabled it upright to another tree and packed soil around the root ball. The cable held it and here we are 15 years later and it’s beautiful and healthy!

We are to be part of this viewing and Patrons are right for you at this time anyway! Soap is very, very expensive. The more old-fashioned it is the more expensive it is! You must keep it and it would be so nice for gifts for all guests who visit and maybe leave one "fired up ever so nicely" and left in a bathroom!? They should know it is twenty years old Soap! Highly well known for being the best, for personal cleanliness, around! ( Everything looks fantastic outside and in, and so cleaned up so nicely and clutter-free. It is not easy to clean out and yet you make it look so easy that anyone would want to, give it a try! It’s a shame the tree in the chicken enclosure can’t be propped back rather than taking it out now when you need the shade. And it would give you time to plant some replacements.

Lovely video and such nice comments from the former owners. Stephanie, if possible, since it's going to be so hot if Kirstie can make sure the clematis have shade at their roots they'll survive and thrive much better. They like their 'feet' cool but tops in the sun. So planting basil or herbs or a perennial or annuals at the bases will make them very happy. 💕❤

Everything looks so beautiful and alive there. The gardens and plantings are flourishing, the trees and woods are being groomed, and you're on a decluttering campaign. Another fresh new start. It feels so happy and bright there! It was wonderful to see the family back at their homestead for a visit. They were quite happy with things, and all the projects and life in the Chateau. It's magical.💗

Unless it's too late can the old apple tree be held in place with supports? I've seen this done with some old tree is various Arbours and in National Trust gardens. One of the uk tv Gardeners, David Domoney, had a similar problem and grew on apple pips he had planted and had the saplings grafted to stronger branches by a professional company, so that he wouldn't lose his old apple trees. Love the corridor transformation, how about installing pictures or plans of the chateau and old photographs a sort of history of Laland💖 The court yard looks magnificent too. X

I agree, I was thinking thr same thing. The Japanese make wooden supports for their old beloved trees from natural branches to pay respect to the elders of the garden and counter the weight on particular branches. It's lovely and worth a try! ❤️🙏

🙂hi. For Chateau owners. Did you look in the Dictionary of Nobles? Many Italians (Merchants, children of Banking families etc.) left Italy late 1400's early 1500's, moved to France, changed surnames a bit, aquired/purchased a noble title and owned chateaux in the Loire Valley. So many thinking they are 'only' French. Found this out in my Family research.

I sometimes think that Philip looks so much like a French Duke- with his long curly hair and features- I just picture those portraits of the past- when they wore the period couture with heels even! Perhaps he has some French/ regal ancestry ? how fitting he came to live in a Chateau! And of course Stephanie and her mother are just stungingly lovely with very regal features as well- and not even needing to take gold for their hair as some Chateau owners of the past did ! I can picture you both at a ball when this Chatuau was built! You could easily put your portraits on the wall and they would blend in with any historical ones. (there's a thought- historical portraits!) It's uncanny really! Plus you all know so much about history and interiors to match! Merci Beaucoup for all you do and the Chateau series !!!

Another joyous video seeing so many things. I love how you never seem fazed at cooking meals for special visitors Stephanie, it shows how talented a cook you are. Such a shame about the tree having to come out. I was as shocked as I thought you sounded as I picked up in your hesitation too, upon hearing that from Nick? Surely it could be braced and supported and perhaps some deep watering tube added like in the courtyard, so the roots would go down and not be so near the dry surface? At least temporarily until another tree grows high enough to provide that bit of much needed shade.🌲⛱🥗🥰
