    @@RandomVidsforthought that’s not technically true. There were people who are president to the continental congress, I over this meant but there were simply the prosiding officer and therefore not actually a president and held no power whatsoever. I particularly admire James K. Polk, our 11th POTUS. He was one of the very few presidents who kept his campaign promises right to the end. He laid down 4 goals he wanted accomplished during his one-term presidency: acquire Oregon from the British, establish an independent treasury system, reduce tariffs, and acquire California from Mexico. He also promised not to run for a second term. Amazingly, he achieved all of them, in just 4 years. And, as promised, he vehemently declined to run for a second term, despite pleas from his colleagues that he do so.

    Matthew Goodwin I know that he survived the cares of the presidency for just over 3 months, making his retirement the shortest of any ex-president. His heavy labors and his strong work ethic took a great toll on his health. He would leave office in a state of grave physical exhaustion. His immune system had greatly weakened. Nevertheless, I admire him because he was true to his word right to the end.

    I was very briefly Richard Nixon's secretary at Mudge Rose in NYC but he was on Summer pause and I never met him. I've worked with a descendant of President Polk, and also was an assistant to Henry Cabot Lodge, III, rather long term. The famous grandfather was running mate for Nixon long before. I've worked for Presidents Chirac, Bush, Sr. and really ... wasn't nuts about it. I've been able to find out a lot, also here in France, and have found it interesting to meet ambassadors. Fun recap! I was born in the '50s in Ohio, home State of seven US Presidents. Thanks for the zippy recap! Uprated.

Our planet is freezing, record low temps,and our GW scientists are stuck in ice" “I’m not a believer in man-made global warming. It could be warming, and it’s going to start to cool at some point. • @warrenrhinerson6373

    @warrenrhinerson6373

    2 жыл бұрын

    Actually he isn’t. Washington DC wasn’t named the Capitol of the United States until 1800. After Washington left the Presidency and had already died. During Washington’s Presidency both New York and Philadelphia served as the nation’s Capitol city. When Washington was inaugurated the capital is in New York and a deal was made between Hamilton and Jefferson to move the capital from New York to Philadelphia for 10 years and after that time. It would move to another then undesignated spot on the Potomac river in exchange for the countries government taking over the leftover war debt.
