This is the first recording I do based on the work of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, one of the greatest representatives of Stoicism, from his greatest work "Meditations". On this occasion, I made a selection of the best quotes from Book 2, and I will continue recording and producing more videos based on the remaining books, some as selected quotes, and others as versions of the entire set of books, from the 1634 English translation by Meric Casaubon, and Jeremy Collier in 1887, in addition to modern translations that make it even closer to our way of thinking in this XXI century.
Reading Marcus Aurelius is very inspiring. You can easily perceive his peace of mind and will to do good to others. And that's precisely what I want to transmit in this video, that good vibe that helps us to slow down, look around, and question ourselves if we are really working on our well-being and irradiate a positive impact on the lives of others.
Marcus Aurelius (121-180), a Stoic philosopher, was part of the Nerva-Antonine dynasty and the last of the Five Good Emperors (you can read about his gratitude for his grandfather and close family members in Book 1). He was the son of Marcus Annius Verus and Domitia Calvilla, and was related to emperors Trajan and Hadrian. After the death of Hadrian’s adoptive son, Aelius Caesar, Marcus was adopted by Antoninus Pius, Hadrian’s new heir. His rule saw significant military conflict, including successful battles against the Parthian Empire and the Kingdom of Armenia. He is renowned for his philosophical work, Meditations, which symbolizes the Roman Empire’s Golden Age.
