The Power of Emotions - An interview with Turkish novelist Elif Shafak

Ғылым және технология

For Turkish novelist Elif Shafak, one of the biggest mistake of contemporary intellectuals is the massive underestimation of the power of emotions. "We have to enter into the world of emotions and to connect with people with anxiety", the award-winning author says, "and the intellectuals have not done a good job in adressing other people’s anxiety." Though Shafak sees no need to fetishize experts, she is convinced that experts and intellectuals are necessary for our societies. "There is an anti-intellectual trend, and it is very disturbing." Her advice for intellectuals is to get out of their own echo chambers and to communicate diversity.

Thank you for the interesting interview content. I agree with Ms. Shafak! I add that we need to promote the poly/ multi over the solo/ single

Perhaps not, if someone hurts other and one who is hurt says with controlled cold voice " I am hurt" will make different impact than one who does not hide his or her pain and, may be lets tears pass out eyes and, says in trembling voice "I am hurt" will make altogether different impact.

Yes, Donald Trump was unfortunately going fully emotional every time he challenged Hillary Clinton during pre-elections speeches.
