​@@PossibleBat are you an artist? did you ever ask for consent to be inspired by your biggest influences? probably not. then why should a machine? or do you maybe believe that you invented the techniques you're using, or that your artistic sensibilities were materialized out of thin air, without any outside input? my designs are mine. the AI helps me find fresh ways to frame my scene or an alternative way to approach my colors. the only difference is that artists did it themselves before AI could help them. by studying how the greats did it before them and finding ways to integrate the techniques into their own concepts.

@@PossibleBat i think the use the commenter is more referring to is just for inspiration, not as much for the AI generated art to actually be directly used in the commenters art. in that case it’s not dissimilar to artists using Pinterest for inspiration or reference. however to ur point it is interesting to think about that aspect, and how we’ll (hopefully) be seeing some more discussion about things like copyright infringement or personal consent in AI art as it evolves in its uses.

Nah have the beauty of art is the emotion/experience of the artist in said art. Van Gogh is beautiful because you can see his life in his paintings. It’s why an amazing cover of a song or someone who can mimic a famous painter paintings are never as impressive as the original even if done exactly the same. The beauty doesn’t come from the image alone but the emotional that created and leaked into the art, I think that’s what makes it “art” and not just a “painting”

I've been hearing him and Noel talk about AI every so often on the TMG pod and it's so clear how genuinely interested Cody is in what is possible with AI. “Just normal Beev” made me laugh way harder than it should have.

I have to say that the production value on this is so insanely high. There's so much attention paid to learning the mechanisms that make this happen and then making that info accessible to your viewers. Man, I really love seeing your creativity and interest in learning new things coincide!! Would 100% watch more videos of this format!! (pls good god never this subject ever fucking again tho, love you, never again)

Beev is definitely one of the more frightening parts of this. Why the hell is he even there and why is he rising through the floor looking so relaxed. No one invited him, and then he turns into a shy Chad assassinator. Shy because of his massive facial growth and evidenced by the "aw shucks" foot position. There is a story here. Perhaps Beev has a redemption arc, but as of now he is a monster sent to kill Chad Cody.

Keep in mind AI cannot act outside the scope of its training. It's basically an algorithm designed to better itself at what it was intended to do. It's nowhere near sentient. It's just doing what it's been trained to do, with near perfection, and we as humans, anthropomorphize the concept of AI, which leads to conclusions like "oh the time AI will take over is close we have to be careful" when in reality, society would not benefit at all in training AI to become sentient, if it is even possible. We benefit much more in training AI models to do really specific things to help different fields like science, research, and as we can see here: art.

How do you know it’s a specific ability and not just an emergent property of complex systems? What part of our brain is responsible for it? What measure could test for it? The Turing test? Because current language models could shit all over the Turing test. So if not that, how do you suppose we scientifically test for something which science doesn’t even understand?

I recommend Drew Gooden's video about because he mentions the already present dangers of AI, which is that lots of creatives are at risk of losing their jobs while their art is what feeds the AI. If you follow artists on twitter you're probably aware of that. The AI doesn't learn, it just steals images from artists, dead or not, without their consent, and vomits it when someone writes a prompt. AIs are already creating pictures in the style of particular artists, and AI/crypto bros are treating artists as disposable, as a product, while saying shit like:"This artist's gonna lose his job because my AI uses his style". Anyone can learn to create art and become skilled, and people do it because they are passionate. It's not a soulless job that needs to be replaced
