The Power of an Entrepreneurial Mindset | Bill Roche | TEDxLangleyED
When we help youth to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, we empower them to be successful in our rapidly changing world. Whether they own a business or work for someone else, young adults need the skills and confidence to identify opportunities, solve problems and sell their ideas. This skillset can be encouraged and developed in elementary schools, with the immediate benefit of increased success in school.
In this talk, Bill Roche shares stories of students that have created their own real business ventures with PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs. He illustrates the power of enabling students to take charge of their learning with freedom to make mistakes, and challenging them to actively develop entrepreneurial skills. Bill also showcases the achievements of specific students and shares how a transformative experience for one student has been a source of inspiration for him over the years. Bill Roche specializes in designing curriculum-based resource packages related to entrepreneurship, financial literacy and social responsibility. Bill worked directly in Langley classrooms for over ten years and now supports teachers throughout the country in creating real-world learning experiences for their students. Over 40,000 students have participated in his PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs program. The program’s impact has been captured in a documentary scheduled for release early in 2018. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

The school system definitely doesn’t teach entrepreneurship. It teaches kids to be afraid of failure. Schools should encourage kids to try and fail then try again. It’s basically what allowed me to build a business, retire by 40 and spend time helping others.

Watching this gave me a whole new perspective on myself I was never good at school I didn’t even graduate but I tried everyday and everyday after that people have been pressuring me to go back to school but I’ve tried since kindergarten to senior year and accepted it wasn’t for me I never did well unless someone basically held my hand through it and I’ve been thinking what I should do with my life I had completely forgotten about how amazing I was in group projects or volunteer community service even in public speaking I’ve always been the leader and everyone knew it but I didn’t remember any of that until I watched this Ted talk since I’ve been researching opening my business this made me sure it’s what I’m good at it’s my gift

Look up ,Social Entrepreneurship. You might like it .
Absolutely brilliant and beautiful! If schools could all take this approach, learning would be so much more powerful for all students! When all people, children included, discover their individual purpose in this world and are given a platform to express and develop that, learning then has a purpose and is achieved. Wow the empowerment that then becomes! Powerful!
I have exclusively experienced all those things that happen when we develop entrepreneurial mindset ..really it makes a unique person and u get very different mindset ,thinking, liberty,
Entrepreneurship from young age is the best as they can become dynamic leaders in future. We don't need managers who run their companies using old school, but a new way, a responsible way understanding the scarcity of resources and not creative ideas. It is good for all kids to try their ideas on own to learn skills by hand. It is heartening to change the ways world works.
This man is a role model. I love the passion and logic he brought to the world!
My son ,not good in studies but has special character of innovation, creativity and passion for toys with epitome of leadership qualities. When I heard your presentation I wish u to guide him for better future
Goosebumps! - especially in fact of the willing by the students!
THE FACT IS THAT THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T ALLOW THOSE KIND OF EDUCATION IN SCHOOL FOR MANY REASONS.. IM A COLLEGE DROPOUT TO PURSUE MY VENTURES AND NOW I'M ON THE STAGE OF MASTERY.. I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO THAT TOO GUYS. GOD BLESS YOU ALL

What a fantastic approach to engaging the next generation !
What a beautiful talk. High hopes. Thank you.
Love this! The way schools are set up can make it hard to be creative. They're usually pretty strict and don't leave much space for trying new things or being creative. This can stop students from thinking in new ways and coming up with cool business ideas. Listening to how your students flourished is inspiring. Thank you!
great idea to create this type of trade shows for kids to showcase their skills.

❤ you are so right about Mike said! Since starting real estate, not long ago, I realized that I’m the only one who can motivate myself to take action❤
Oh my god this is amazing! We need this in every school! Kids need to know there is something far beyond college and that they can do all sorts of careers to be successful. What a purpose to do this for kids wow. In high school one day my English teacher had us go into groups and make a mock business it was pretty funny and actually fun. I was paired up with these two kids and we created a soda pop company. It was great we had to brain storm and completely come up with a concept. It was interesting. Kids need these things and I just love what was talked about here wow.

Creative and innovations are the keys too.

I absolutely love the perspective presented! It's highly accurate and inspiring. You can achieve critical thinking, innovation, leadership, and the entrepreneurial way of life from a young age. Let's go for it! I absolutely love the way he presents ideas! He really demonstrates that entrepreneurship doesn't require extraordinary effort. With passion, incentive, and excitement for the work, the results can be extremely gratifying. It's just amazing! I am absolutely thrilled to share my thoughts on this video! It offers such a valuable perspective on the skills entrepreneurs can develop. I truly believe that entrepreneurship is more than just selling a product or an idea; it is a way of life that transforms reality and makes ideas come true. This video is a must-watch for anyone who wants to learn more about the power of entrepreneurship!
Thank you for this. Very helpful ❤

This talk was so inspirational and amazing. Schools should urge and help aspiring young entrepreneurs to pursue their ideals and goals. Like he said creativity, problem solving are not enough, It's the mindset of each person. We need to focus on growing and improving.
I was just like this kid. I always used to tell my teachers I'd try if i was being paid money.
Thats the mind set required. Education is lost in smile parts and never teaches us what money is all about . But we need money to survival yet don't learn how to make it.. Sad reality. Lets hope for the best spreading awareness..nice video❤
Amazing!
Gained so much inspiration in 16 minutes 🤯
Awesome...
Amazing! Well said, I couldn’t agree more. School puts everyone in a box on a conveyer belt and are told ‘to get good grades or your a failure’ then get into a good uni, then a secure job and follow the follower until you can just about retire (if your lucky enough) at 65+. There’s so much more to life than that and what you just said is exactly what I am talking about. I am only just getting started with my entrepreneurial journey but I love it and its an incredible feeling when you build a successful business, the pride and happiness is unmatched and no job or career can give you that feeling!
What the world needs now is more 'experts'.

An excellent research with a dynamic presentation. I am a teacher from Malaysia. I am teaching English language in a suburban. My children are aged from 13-17 yrs and they are of low proficiency. Currently, i am doing a project similar to the Bill's but it is to assess their oral skills. I agree with Bill as that is what i notice in my children . They are very creative whereby their products are what we need. They are able to see the pitfalls in others creations. I would like to seek permission from Bill to try out his research here. I hope you would allow me to use your research as my framework ,Bill. Thank you million.....

Entrepreneurship = problem solving. Mindset= your attitude plus motivation towards solving a problem. Solving a problem requires being curious and creative. Entrepreneurship is creating something new that's never been done before that helps the world become a better place for all of us to live in. Gathering data from what has been done before through research such as Google is a great way to start going at the idea you have in mind for a current problem you're trying to solve. You might assume the idea you have is great and it's the next big solution to the problem, however ; learning from previous solutions that have been attempted to solve the problem you're thinking about might be of great help in terms of saving valuable time and possibly saving money for funding your great idea. More so, going out into the real world and sharing your solution or some of the hypotheses you have gathered with real people to validate your idea and to criticize it if necessary so you can think more deeply about your solution and in result build even a greater solution that is more accurate, helps create value and genuinely better people's lives without forcing the idea or wasting your valuable time as an entrepreneur.
