The Power and Danger of the Tongue (Archived)

By: Alistair Begg || www.truthforlife.org - Who can honestly say that they have complete control of their speech? Although the tongue is a small part of the body, it is arguably the most powerful; it has the capacity to do great good but can also cause absolute chaos. The natural tongue is naturally untamable-but, Alistair Begg assures us, when God changes a heart, a changed tongue will follow.

Idle words seem to be the other unpardonable sin. The Judgment Seat of Christ is going to be very scary. VERY scary. Idle words are so easily spoken and many times this particular sin can be very dangerous and harmful. Even joking and jesting in fun seems to be included. I like funny, clean jokes, they must be clean, non-vulgar jokes, but even this kind of speech seems to be sinful. I wish more pastors would preach about idle words and the grave consequences of this sin. I have been guilty, many times of idle words but have made a promise to myself to do all I possibly can to guard my mind and my mouth against this grave sin. I can only IMAGINE how long each individual will be standing before God in order to be judged for this sin. I lose sleep at night whenever the sin of giving account for my idle words comes to my mind. This is very serious, this sin of idle words and standing before God's holy throne in front of Jesus, as I am fearfully giving account for all my idle words. I wonder how long will I, with all my many instances of this sin, be standing there...days, weeks, or even months? I can only imagine. I am so thankful to God for finding this, as well as other sermons here on KZread and other sites such as SermonAudio, on this serious sin, because I have never heard in any church l've attended, any teaching or preaching on this particular sin. People need to know this.

USA Citizen, yes brother this is a major concern of mine. Sometimes I wish I had a zipper on my mouth. I heard a figure that the average person speaks 18,000-25,000 words a day.
