The Porsche 944 is still an affordable great daily driver.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Porsche 944 2.5 model was first introduced in 1982 and was designed to be a more affordable alternative than the 911 series from which it derived its style. It featured an inline-4 engine with a displacement of 2.5 liters, producing 147 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 159 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. The car had a top speed of 131 mph (210 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) within 8 seconds.
In 1984, Porsche made some changes to the engine by increasing its power output to 163 horsepower at 6,000 rpm while dropping the torque rating slightly to 157 lb-ft at 4500rpm; this version is often referred to as the “2½” or “S”. In addition, minor external modifications were made such as revised front and rear spoilers for improved aerodynamics. In 1985 Porsche released their final iteration of the 944 line before introducing their next generation 968 offering: The limited edition “944 Turbo” featuring a turbocharged version of the same basic engine that produced 217 horsepower along with 258 lb.-ft of torque making it one of the fastest cars available in its class during that time period.
A few years later in 1988 saw further developments with what would eventually become known as “944 S2” which combined elements from both earlier versions including features like 16 inch wheels instead 15 inch ones found on previous models along with more aggressive body styling meant offer better stability & handling performance when taken out onto racetracks; these changes helped give rise popularity amongst racing enthusiasts who favored vehicle’s nimble characteristics over those offered other sports coupes market then .
In 1989 came final update known simply “944 S3” where engineers decided increase engine size 3 liter mark produce 208bhp @ 6000rpm alongside 221lb ft torque 5000rpm - giving car top speeds 140mph+ depending route driven . This particular model also featured revised suspension setup bringing even tighter cornering ability meaning drivers could enjoy true racecar experience whilst still being comfortable enough use everyday streets too!
Overall this means has been quite successful production run since inception almost 40 years ago; many consider vehicles classic now thanks enduring longevity design concept - something testament company’s commitment creating iconic machines will stand test time well into future!

Just picked up a 1987 924S. Love the ride, its good in city and highway. Its gonna need a little TLC. I had a supposed german car expert shop check it out. Useless waste of $200 bucks. I wanted the main things checked so i could get a list as to what needs done. He called back quoting $2000 for timing belt, water pump, rollers. I asked if he took off the cover off,, and didnt know if the tech had actually checked it. I just paid the 200 and took my car back. You definitely have to do the work unless you havd money and trusted mechanic that actually has experience on them...

I have an 86 8v Na. I have done all the work on it myself. Couple of special tools to buy that i didnt have in the garage. But not an impossible task. Flywheel lock, and a pin spanner for the pulleys would get you there with a basic enough toolset.

Yes I agree, customised interior. Looks like it may have been a theme. The dash mat is aftermarket and is colour coded to the interior. Overall its pretty well done.

This video is all over the place for me 😂. You lost me at German Miata.. The transaxle cars with the 50/50 weight distribution are what make these handle so great. The only similarity to a Miata is the physical size of the car. Stop saying parts are hard to find. Parts are not at all hard to find OR expensive if you have and are familiar with the internet. FCP euro and Pelican Parts have a tons of aftermarket options that are ridiculously less expensive than OEM. I’ve never had an issue finding anything either. This car is cheaper to maintain and as easy to get parts for as my 2003 Chevrolet. Your interior is no where near OEM, nobody at Porsche designed or made that. It should be guards red verses cross red but it’s obviously been painted (engine bay).

Absolutely. I feel the 944 is more refined than the 924, but you can pick up a 924 for less money and frankly it’s a great car aswell. I’ll do a video on one soon.

Porsche updated the car throughout the long production years, from the 924, 924s, early 944, late 944.. They are all built well and don't have many serious flows. But if you can, I would get the latest year you can find - that will come with all the updates and improvements.

My first car was a 1986, 944. I got it just before going into college in 1999. As an independent young adult who paid for everything out of his own pocket, and was just starting to learn about fixing cars, the 944 kept me broke, out of money during the 3 years I owned her. My advice is don't get a 944 as your first car, it is an expensive car to learn on.

You don’t want a 944 or any 80’s car as your first car. At this age, everything made of rubber is deteriorating and needs constant attention and maintenance. This car would make a great second car if you already have something that can get you from point A to point B reliably
