The Poor of Cambodia are Friendlier Than The Rich 🇰🇭

The Poor of Cambodia are Friendlier Than The Rich 🇰🇭
In this video, I take a still river side in Phnom Penh in the country of Cambodia, a country which has adopted the American USD as their currency. You'll get to see the weird way this is traded and change is given. We also check out the local vendors and take part in a number of Chinese rituals.

Friendliest people i have ever met were cambodians. Very humble people from a brutalist history. If you get to batambang go to the killing caves, if younare in PP go to "the highschool" and the killing fields. I got blind drunk with a tuk tuk driver at his place. Ended up peeling about 50kg of cucumbers with him and his family. Amazing memories

My entire life spent in Cambodia, many rude riches turns out to be young adult that got spoiled by their parents. I’ve met a few humble nobles but they’re tend to be in their 40s to 50s. But yes, people who are in the middle class and lower class tend to help others and that’s because we value the sense of community.

In America they say crime is from desperation and poverty, and the government throws money at the problem with no results. . The people of the Philippines and Cambodia prove this wrong. I’ve met some really poor people that would never steal anything I leave laying around. When they have only a little rice they offer to share it out of kindness. Crime has nothing to do with economic disparity. It has to do with values and morals people are taught when growing up.

That's one of the things typical Cambodian. When they give you something, they don't want you to pay for it. Unlike the west where we buy our own foods or drinks, Cambodians would pay when they invite you. Giving money can offend them. We're used to pay for our own foods or drinks. Cambodians are different.

I used to live in Peng Huoth and hated it. It is full of rich snobs and young spoiled brats racing their luxury cars up and down the roads as late as 1 or 2 a.m. and having parties all hours of the night because they don't need to go to work in the morning like some of us. On top of that, the area, outside of all the greenery, is quite boring, except for Euro Park. Each business in the area is built into the same identical looking shophouse, and the interior is pretty much exactly the same in each one. My partner and I loved the greenery there, but not much else.

In most of these places' tourist should avoid tuktuk or trike riders as they tend to rip you off. Over time I have found that the ones who approach me when I get off a bus, etc. and trying to get me into their trike will be the ones that overcharge, therefore I tend to go to one that is up the road a bit from where the bus stop is etc..... they tend to be the ones that do the right thing.

Toward the end, I understand how you feel, the loud speaker music they play can be really grinding. I come into cafes sometimes here in Phnom Penh and as soon as i sit down, they turn up the music. I do ask them to turn it down but they cannot understand why I'd think it's annoying. I also find it bizarre that they play music that loud when it was a method used by the Khmer rouge to mentally torture their people.

husband speaking age 80 Mr. Marco - the hanging meat reminds me of my first trip to Cebu in 1979 walking through the Carbon Market area. Meat hanging, feeding the fly's and the clerk asleep on top of the counter. Few stores had any kind of cold storage. It took at least 10 years to start seeing stores with freezers. I think I would throw up if I saw a cat or dog as meat on the counter for sale. Personally our dogs here in Cebu are cared for much better than many kids are. One of my wife's Aunts husband who worked on a ship, would come home 2 or 3 times a year and want to eat dog. I actually never got to meet him as he was always gone when I was here.

I posted earlier but I copied to post in here. Here is my post about that place. It isn't a bar but a local and mostly men hangout. They asked him if he needs a company. In here, the girl would charge you about $50 an hour of services. But there, it is a free services. The girl is part of business' services. Company paid her very small salary for serving guests. If she provided you good services, you can give her a tip as a token for her services. A few things you can do with her like sing a son or something but don't try to approach sexual contact. It is illegal to do so. You can speaking dirt with her but don't go too far as mention about sex or something like that (DON'T). It is just enough, for someone who wants to commit suicide because of loneliness changes a mind after enjoy the evening with her.

    # 5 Mr. Marco - same in Cebu at the Karaoke bars - folks go in to pretend to sing, really beautiful ladies are grouped together, you pick one and she comes to your table, management runs over and says you must buy a " ladies " drink., probably good for 15 or 20 min. then you better buy another glass of tea for them. Maybe 10 + years ago we met up with one of my wife's relatives visiting too and her boy friend. (was not much of a boy friend ) we four go in to this joint, this guy picks out a very pretty gal to come and sit between me and him. Great, my wife next to me, this lady asks my wife if this is ok. We get a sob story of her life, she hoping for some extra money. Anyway, not a place for a mixed group. Young single men or old single men who are gullible and an easy mark . What an amazing story today, very nice.

Nothing is sneaky here, four quarters to a dollar is common practice worldwide for convenience and simplicity in counting translation. Only stupid peoples would try to calculate exact currency exchanges in their minds and translate something worthless than a quarter. This cheap and for the poor sellers, I always rounded off to the dollar to show my appreciation. Plus, I don't carry local currency and only paper dollars are accepted.
