Hey Chad. String algae can happen for numerous reasons so I'd need more info to give more direct advice. Often times string algae "blooms" over a course of several weeks and then dies off again on its own without the pond keeper doing anything. Early/late winter, early Spring are pretty typical times that these blooms may occur. There are targeted treatments for chronic string algae, and boosting your overall filtration will help as well. Check out my blog for some articles on string algae. www.fullserviceaquatics.com/blog

thePondHunter - Thanks man! I’ll check that out! Yeah it’s pretty bad. It was fine up until about a month ago. That’s when it started up and it’s just gotten worse. I am planning on making a 30 gallon bio filter out of a drum. It only has a cheep 6 gallon bio filter now. The pond is about 1500 gallons.

Hi David, if the use of rock and gravel in a pond is done correctly it can be very beneficial to a constructed pond.
