This group is really honest music, you can tell everything done on stage is FAMILY, and you can see they are not doing it for money. I enjoy honest entertainment and this is it. You could love this family even if you are not a fan of the polka jenre. How did this family got so musical, only the maker of us all could possibly know.

Hupaj Siupaj & the Pennsylvania Polka are my 2 most favorite Polkas. I've been a fan of Polkas since 1964 when I was going on 11 when I first heard Polka music in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Hazleton area when I was visiting my late paternal grandmother in Pittston,PA during July of 1964.

I love this clip! I'm not Polish-American, but I grew up in an area with many Poles, and my family was friendly with the Cheskys of Rex Records. So this song has been in my soul since I was very small, and this is a great performance, the fiddle-playing girls are great!

@NocnyPatrol Do you happen to know an English translation. I remember singing this as a young boy with the refrain, Yesterday we slept in mud, tomorrow maybe satin, pink and yellow satin, hupaj shoop

I don't have a complete English translation, but the song is a cavalryman's song. It's about the time before battle, about challenging the Czar, and the lines about sleeping in mud, or in sheets, are to show that their fate is never known.

I found one, though I think this is more the original patriotic song on which the polka is based: Letter to Tsar And the horse-riding is already standing near Styr, is already standing near Styr, is already standing near Styr. And they write to Tsar that they not afraid of him, that they not afraid of him, oops-a-daisy! Oops-a-daisy, Oops-a-daisy, Oops-a-daisy lala, Oops-a-daisy lala, dear girl. Yesterday I slept on the floor, Today in a haystack, Until the morning, Oops-a-daisy! And they write to Tsar in black ink black ink, black ink. That they not afraid of him with all his commandery, with all his commandery, Oops-a-daisy! And our heavy cannons are already standing near Riga, are already standing near Riga, are already standing near Riga. And they write to Tsar that they not afraid of him, that they not afraid of him, that they not afraid of him, that they not afraid of him, oops-a-daisy! Oops-a-daisy... They write to Czar, why did you remove the bells? why did you remove the bells? why did you remove the bells? He probably didn't have a bullets to defend himself, to defend himself, oops-a-daisy. And they write with a sabre made of hardened steel, made of hardened steel, made of hardened steel. That they exiled the whole crowd beyond Bug, beyond Bug, oops-a-daisy! Oops-a-daisy... Finally, we sent the squadron into the trenches, we sent the squadron, we sent the squadron. We took the whole tsarist regiment into slavery, We took the whole, oops-a-daisy. Ok so it's not about sleeping in hay or in a barn? That's how I remember it as a little girl.

Yep. The polka is derived from a Polish cavalry song. Dragoons encamped in a village before they have to go out to battle.

Here's one version of the lyrics: A nasza kompania tam wo kopach stoi Tam wokopach stoi tam wokopach stoi I pis ze do cara ze sie go nie boi Ze sie go nie boi Hupaj siup! Chorus Hupaj siupaj hupaj siupaj hupaj siupaj dana hupaj siupaj dana hupaj siupaj dana, Wczoraj spalem na podlodze dzis na wiazce siana Do samego rana Hupaj siup! I pis ze do cara czarnym atramentem Czarnym atramentem czarnym atramentem, Ze sie go nie boi a całem regimentem Z całem regimentem Hupaj siup! Chorus I pis ze do cara na zołtym papierze Na zołtym papierze na zołtym papierze Ze sie go nie boi kapral i zołnierze, Kapral i zołnierze, Hupaj siup! Chorus

What, so, they shouldn't move at all, just stand there?
