The fact that Mirage Island is full of Wynaut is a hilarious answer to the question the player will inevitably ask once they realize nothing special is there: "Why have this incredibly difficult to find island in the game if there's nothing special there in the first place?!?" "Wynaut?"

Mew under the truck was the first rumor I remember hearing about as a kid. I tried using strength on every single tile to move it. And then to find out later I had access to Mew through a glitch. Mind-blowing.

I'm glad wolfe brought up the manga. To this day I still believe the ruby sapphire, diamond and pearl, and black and white manga are top tier stories. Love, death hardships, plot twists, actually evil villans, the stories are amazing!

I've only ever read Red. But even I was impressed at the quality of the story. Everything about the Pokémon feel so much more real, like their actual other animals. It's a shame none of those stories have been adapted into an anime.

The idea that Cubone is an abandoned Kangaskhan baby doesn’t make as much sense as the theory that Cubone/Marowak are abandoned Charmanders. The mother Charizard would die and leave the baby Charmander to take the mother’s skull. this theory makes sense because because the body color and tail of Cubone are the same as Charmander. Also, the skull that Cubone has looks like a Charizard head further roving the theory.

A note on the pokemon war: There are very few middle aged men in kanto in the original games. There are old men, and boys, The young men are seen as part of team rocket and any men Surge's age are all in biker gangs which roam from celedon to fuschia (possibly a lot of them are veterans). Lance seems quite young to be the strongest trainer in all of kanto, and why is Prof. Oak in charge of the pokemon league? (the dude's like 75) Additionally, the architecture and culture in Kanto is that of the postwar economic boom the united states had in the 1950s. The mainland of kanto is dominated by the saffron metropolitan area and its suburbs. Much like Earthbound, this game was influenced by post WW2 westernization and chose to make that its setting. Thirdly, why was mewtwo being created? what was the purpose of expending exorbitant amounts of funding and time into crafting a genetically modified mentally unstable killing machine? To end the war. The last group of men you meet in gen 1 is the scientists which work at silph co. or worked at the pokemon mansion. Just some interesting details.

Except for the fact Giovanni never sends the trio after Ash and is seen actively disappointed by their choice of pursuing a kid without any special Pokémon to steal. It's all Jessie, James and Meowth being convinced his Pikachu is the strongest ever for realz because... it beat them, I guess? Like, no other Pokémon's ever done that before, they've gotta have it. Yeah, even as a kid, I actually disliked anime Team Rocket. I played the games - they're supposed to be dangerous criminals to be taken down with the power of Pokéfriendship! You know, the element that makes the show have STAKES? Instead, they're dumbasses with a talking Meowth (AKA a walking gajillion dollars) whose potentially cool backstories are constantly teased and never actually turned into anything relevant. They're great in Sun&Moon, where they (along with most characters at various times) are allowed to actually be comedic gold instead of annoying distractions, but of course any other season is a Sunkern to Sun&Moon's Mewtwo anyway.

I seem to recall James saying “The last time I got this many letters was when I posted a personal ad in the paper!” Or something along those lines in the movie with Entei and the Unown when the Unown are chasing them. They were always meant to be comedic gold, not true threats. They’re failures. The rest of team rocket looks down on them. Lmao

I understand you, but it's not unjust. Pikachu had always been there without any problems despite flashing lightning every episode. Once Porygon showed up, problems arose. The association with Porygon showing up is too strong and distinct to relegate the issue to what happened in the narrative.

I love Pokémon more now as an adult than I possibly could have as a kid. Even tho the franchise is 25 years, learning about its lore makes it feel brand new again!!

A really nice change of pace from the usual competitive pokemon content. Actually, on that note, an iceberg for competitive pokemon also sounds really fun. A list of scandals, successful gimmicks or meta calls that took everyone by surprise, quirks in the competitive format that weren't resolved until much later, etc

@@rock28408 I think it could work. Start with what anyone in competitive knows, like the Pachirisu win at worlds. Then work your way to more obscure and quirky strategies that still either worked well or got some tourney play, like divecat. You can also go through jokes in the competitive community from less to more obscure.

Apparently the director the anime said in an interview Ash never aging represents the feeling of summer vacation. You never want it to end.

Way back in the day my brother was playing Pokémon soul silver, and he showed me something real strange. He was grinding outside of the sprout tower and he encountered a lv 100 bellsprout. He showed me the encounter and we both witnessed his team get sweeped by it since it was quite early in the game. Sadly we couldn’t take a picture or video because we didn’t have a camera or phone back then since we were just kids. To this day we haven’t seen or heard anyone else encounter something like that, but I swear to you it was real

Pretty sure Ash DID age, and he was CANONICALLY getting a bit too close to adulthood for the company's comfort, so they just said "He's 10 again" and he's been there ever since.

@M A nah, Ash being Alola champion was great, because it really felt much more deserved, he spent long on alola and connected with the people and region, in the other regions, he i just another trainer going around the region collecting badges, in alola he lived, he got involve d in the region and people and you can even feel it once they chant for him in journeys when he visits alola one time, the region really was ash home and gives him the feeling of "i represent this place"

22:30 we actually know from interviews that the reason Jigglypuff got into Smash is because they were short on characters soon to release so they introduced Jigglypuff since it was a popular pokemon thar conveniently could reuse a lot of already existing moves, namely Kirby's.

There was also a rumor about a "pokemon plus and minus" game after XY. Since Scarlet and Violet, there are also new Theories, that the Laser from the Machine in XY made Area Zero in Paldea and the Floette is from there, because it has another type of Flower, than the other pokemons

I remember feeding unlimited rare candy to my missing no and getting a level 1 kangaskhan. Only knew dizzy punch. Only level 1 pokemon at the time. After achieving I felt I achieved everything. Then I tried the Abra mew glitch. Been 10 years since and i stand by poke blue as the best game ever

Did anyone else notice in the part about Wobbuffet, there is a clip where a Ditto transforms into Wobbuffet, Ditto's facial Features are over the face of the Wobbuffet Tail, not the main blue-body face, giving evidence that the Tail is the main face of the Pokémon! 😁

Ditto is a pokemon like any other and could mistake fake faces too. It's a mimick/copy pokemon, not "knowing the anatomy" pokemon. I don't think it's too wise to depend on ditto for confirmations even though that's pretty much the only thing we can use for that.

About gen 2 having Kanto in it: The original version of the game was having trouble fitting onto a single cartridge before Satoru Iwata stepped in with a compression tool so good it practically doubled the size of the game. Because of this, it was decided to add Kanto into the game with the additional space

@@bananaforscale1283 A line of code was found that would display Mewtwo's incomplete Dex entry when talking to one of the fossils in that house. Considering what was going on in Mt Moon, maybe fossils in general were supposed to play a much bigger role in the story.

One of the theories I like is that The War Surge mentions was between Johto and Kanto, which is why there are so few ways to get between the two regions, and why there's almost no knowledge of Johto Pokémon before GSC.

I got lucky and reached Mirage Island the first time I was exploring the area as a kid. Had no idea what it was or why only Wynaut’s appeared. Never saw it again until learning how rare it actually was lmao.

Yea, you're lying unless you had a game shark, cuz you could only ever go to Mirage Island with the event ticket in Emerald and I think Fire Red/Leaf Green, though you probably could have discovered it by cheating the event ticket in or using a walk through barriers code to go visit it, so maybe just maybe you actually did see it as a kid and didn't know it's signifigance

@@Bludgeoned2DEATH2 no need to be a dick, but yes you're right, my fucking bad Mr. Pokemon, I had it confused with the Mew event island, which is impossible to get to without a GameShark or having the event item, Mirage Island is retarded, doesn't even have dick on it, atleast if you used a GameShark and accidentally discovered the Mew island that'd be something, but you essentially just got lucky, like missing a couple tackles in a row, it doesn't make you special, get the master ball from the radio place in Goldenrod in Gen 2 then you can talk shit

I feel like Scarlet and Violet is the perfect opportunity to fill the gap with Kalos, since the Iberian Peninsula borders France. It would be really cool if the DLC includes Kalos itself, or maybe some former colonies.

My favorite glitch from Gen 1 was encountering Pokemon above Level 100! After talking to the old man that shows how to catch Pokemon in Virdian City, fly down to Cinnabar Island, immediate move right to the edge of the island, surf up and down along the edges. Thanks Wolfey for bringing back the awesome nostalgia and mysteries :D

An interesting addendum to 23:36 is that the room file still exists in NA versions of Emerald (I stumbled across it in a map randomizer) but the game will crash upon trying to start the battle after talking to the hiker.

the Giovanni theory would b hella depressing considering in hgss its confirmed that Silver (your rival) is Giovanni's son. In some canon pokemon animations its mentioned he hasn't seen his dad in 3 years or so since team rocket broke up. it would b so depressing if giovanni tried to make sure his other alleged son was safe instead of his present son that he had contact with before team rocket first disbanded. (please correct some of this if im wrong, im a new pokemon fan 🐛)

Anyone heard of this one: In gen 1, get a level 100 machamp, go to the power plant, use strength and push boulders to the exit at the very end by zapdos. After that when you go out the exit itself, you'll be transported to the unreachable grass area outside the pallet town fence where all 151 pokemon can be encountered. The weird thing is there are no boulders in the power plant though so that part is odd

Hmmmm wow that's fascinating! I certainly never found that secret in the games!

The theory of ash still being ten is that the main writer wanted a perfect timeline for kids being that it’s always summer and holidays. This keeps ash at the same age as it’s probably just reapeting the same year over and over but allowing to keep peoples knowledge and what has happened in there life cannon. This keeps ash’s Pokemon knowledge getting better but is still the same old ash.

about the banned porygon episode, it goes around that the main source of the seizure-inducing flashes were coming from pikachu and not from porygon. but porygon had to be the scapegoat because we can't have the main mascot banned now can we

As someone who’s had a load of seizures but not due to flashing lights, i rewatched that Pokémon go episode a few month back, and it was like taking acid and tripping balls for 10 seconds and feel like crap after the flashing for me.

would love to see more of these lore / fan theory deep dives, that was a super fun callback to childhood

I believe that Ash's dad was actually introduced in the 1st episode. There's the guy standing near Delia With tears of pride and his eyes. In all honesty I don't think a neighbor would cry tear's of pride for Ash like.. that.

As a kid I remeber a rumor about how I'm the Japanese version ash's dad was a drunk and American media didn't want that so they cut it out of the American. Then hakan decided to appease their western allies would never mention his dad again XD

Pokemon was the series I loved as a child (I remember collecting plushies, tazos, figures, etc.) and though I'm not really into it nowadays, it's always great to watch videos about it, like the one you made!

When I was 13, the internet convinced me that togepi's base code was in red and blue, and if you defeat the elite 4 50 times without saving, your mom would give you a Togepi. This was not true.

i’m an avid reader of the pokemon manga and it’s definitely worth it. i think all the arcs are good, even if some aren’t as Great (coughs swsh xy coughs) but i really like the direction the manga takes the games plot especially early on. it’s not nearly as dark as people make it out to be though but it has some Moments especially in the unova arc

The unova arcs were really good. Kalos arcs were really good too and enjoyable. However I HATED that mf Emerald. They tried to replicate having a manga only character like Yellow and it worked so well for Yellow. She's an iconic character no one will know unless they're read the series. Making Emerald was a huge mistake tho and every chapter with him was unbearable until the better characters showed up. That kids the worst

I don't know, it's that type of artificial setting that is about trying to have "the most epic finale" by bringing back so many characters while it fails to have a cohesive theme and the characters are just there for their status and not for what they were meant to be.

Team Rainbow Rocket sucked, All the villains are from a timeline where they won but they all just stand in a room waiting to be defeated. We could've jumped into the Distortion World or Cyrus' "World in his vision" to meet Cyrus, We could've went into a flooded Hoenn to meet Archie (but this time the Archie from ORAS since his design in RSE sucks.) But instead we just get them standing in a copy and pasted room. USUM was such a disappointment.

@@piranhalettuce Even with that, what's really the point of mixing all of these different characters. They all had completely contradictory goals. They are just their because of their names not because of a cohesive story with cohesive and coherent themes in which they fit.

I did not expect to know as many as I did. I only missed like 5 max. Great video and I'm glad more people are getting to learn about some Pokemon mysteries/facts/whatever else.

Back when I played the original gold, I caught it dunsparse and trained it. I did this thinking it would evolve into gligar... the body types are remarkably similar as well as the pokedex entries are in numeric order.

Pokemon Adventures was so good, legitimately the best manga I've read. I still love the newer arcs as well. Really wish this storyline was the one animated.

Another reason as to why Kalos feels so under-explored is that AZ's flotette is still yet to be released.

As Gold & Silver was my first Pokemon game I would say it was actually critical to include Kanto in the game for two reasons. Short-term.. that hooked me to the series. Long-term, 20 years later it's still some sort of precedent and we all yearn for a Paldea & Kalos connection.

True that! Every gen, we hope there's some way to get back to the previous gen(s) and experience the "backward" playthrough with higher-level pokemon.

I LOVE the idea of Oak just striking out on his own with only the level 5 leftover starter. He could speed run an Indigo Plateau sweep for sure

Honestly, every fan should read the manga, its amazing. Red, Blue and Green Chapter was good, Sun and Moon Chapter was good and Gold, Silver and Crystal Chapter was pretty good as well.

Dude it's been so cool to watch your climb since I came in at the Pokemon Academy time (which please bring back) and it is so cool to see all this content coming from the different things you've tried over the years!

I remember the mew below the truck rumour. I got Pokemon Red and my friend got Pokemon Blue for christmas and we tried everything to get mew once we both filled up the rest of the Pokedex. I only really played the first 3 generations of Pokemon (and their remakes) and trying to catch mew was one of the things I wasted the most time on back in the day. KZread didn't exist so there were no videos available on how to get it.

To be fair people were right about Mew they just werent right about the truck portion. You need to skip ss anne and get traded a pokemon with cut. then when you get to mistys town you can do a few things to get mew from the wild grass.

The whole thing with LT. Surge having fought in the war is that originally pokemon was set on earth and kanto is in japan. LT. Surge would have been an american soldier who fought in the gulf war.

I think adding Kanto in the gen 2 games at the time made sense as it was meant to be the last pokemon game, but looking back, if Johto was entirely it's own thing, completely independent of Kanto, alot of issues we have with it today would probably not be there (wacky level curves, mostly just Kanto pokemon till postgame) so I would have probably preffered space world's Johto, but we can't go back in time so, ehh😅

Imposter Professor oak was in the Red, Green and Blue arc of Pokemon Adventures in Adventure 27. He attacked Red but it was revealed that it was just Sabrina's Kadabra disguised as him (because Koga, Lt Surge, and Sabrina were in team rocket) while the real oak was captured to replace Blaine (who was also in TR, but he left).

Ash isnt a ten year old, he's a teen year old

We have a similar incident to Ho-oh granting Ash eternal happiness by keeping him on his travels in Yu-Gi-Oh. In the 5D's manga, Yusei Fudo is offered a wish, and manga panels show several choices for what wish he'd want. All of those panels are from different parts of 5D's era of Yugioh, including the anime story, a movie...and Yusei's wish is to continue to Duel with all the friends he made in Neo Domino City, like how Ash wants to be a real master by going to every region.

My theory re. Ash always being 10 was that he was knocked out in the S.S. Anne, and that every event after the Police's memorial to him, Misty etc. was Ash dreaming. This was inspired by a similar theory involving Homer Simpson losing consciousness in an episode (I fail to remember that theory in detail), and Bart Simpson famously also never ages. As for the theory of Giovanni being Ash's father and him sending JJ&M after him to keep tabs on him, if this was the case, why did he fire them prior to the events of Dues & Don'ts?

In one of the movies ash literally celebrates 1 year of knowing pikachu. they met the day of his tenth birthday, they even had cake. I don't remember which movie it was but i do remember it was all about pikachu exploring some city with a couple pichus

The thing about Wobbufett absolutely blew my mind! I began questioning my life choices after that one. Lmao

I remember getting Mirage Island to appear back in Emerald. We didn't have internet at that time, so I didn't kno wh3y the old man couldn't see it. I figured I had to do something crazy in the game - like catching a super rare 'mon or whatever. Lol I went over to ML once, but the man saw it again oneday after I had already gone. I never knew it was that rare! Haha, that's dope.

That thing about characters not aging is just the same as with South Park - the show is around for over 25 years but the main characters are still ~9-10 years old (same thing about adult characters, they do not seem to have aged too since they were introduced), even though there is clearly an implied passing of time in the series. Anyway, thing is, they do not visibly age because they are not supposed to. They cannot change their appearance (or personality too, in any large extent) and the show is supposed to run because it brings cash. Even though it's against logic. But animated characters can do something what real humans cannot - stay young indefinitely. That's like a very good asset for whoever profits on them.

Ruby and Sapphire having their Dex cut is technically incorrect. Unlike Sword and Shield, Ruby and Sapphire does have a National Dex, so it is possible to have every Pokemon from Gens 1-3. Even after the DLC, Sword and Shield does not allow you to have every Pokemon from Gens 1-8, even if you have the means to transfer them over.

Surge is known as the "Lightning American". This is likely a reference to WWII as the games originally took place in an alternate reality of the real world before evolving into it's own original universe.
