Motown did a lot for many artists but didn’t promote quite a few talented female artists like Pointer Sisters, Teena Marie, Stacy Lattisaw, Shanice

I think they tried with Shanice. As for Teena Marie, Berry Gordy was trying to do something that had never been done before: debut and establish a White woman into modern R&B by catering to a Black audience. There was no template for that.

@@SmoothCinnamonX yes they tried with Shanice, ‘Inner Child’ did pretty well. That’s true and Teena didnt make music that was exactly mainstream but it wasn’t not mainstream, her Motown albums were her best and no reason she couldn’t have been promoted to wider audiences, like artists like Aretha and Natalie Cole had big crossover success

Facts , bc Bonnie went to Motown after she left the group and her albums were actually really really good but little to no promo she could’ve been way bigger than she was solo with more than a couple hits 💜🕊
