He was never a villain, and don't worry, there is nothing wrong about crushing a tragic, misunderstood, broken, dramatic, seductive victorian antihero with a deformity that makes him even prettier, and a genius of music, art and everything beautiful.

Okay, so, 1) There's _nothing wrong_ with having an outright villain crush. I don't judge people who want to smooch Jareth the Goblin King, or Hannibal Lector, or Grand Admiral Thrawn, or The Leading Player, or whoever else. Being attractive and being delightfully evil are by no means mutually exclusive traits. As long as it is a _fictional character_ and not an _actual IRL serial killer or dictator,_ all is well. 2) Yes, Erik is misunderstood, suave, and tragic, but he is also an _outright murderer who for most of the story blatantly shows no regard for Christine's wants, feelings, or opinions._ I've poured over multiple versions of Phantom for hours. I've wanted to play Erik on stage since I was like eight years old. I have been actively researching and dissecting this character since I was ten. This is not an insult to the character, or a knee-jerk reaction to a mysterious, vaguely-ominous man in a cape. He _is_ a villain, though he is a sympathetic and tragic one that was heavily shaped by the world around him in one of the most blatant displays of society's ableism and general cruelty coming back to bite them square in the butt. It works for both the story and the character that he is this way. If he wasn't, it wouldn't mean nearly as much when Christine (in the musical at least, I'm too focused on the ALW musical rn to try and factor in book and silent film and all those other versions) stands up to him, and then shows him compassion despite the fact that he was _deliberately acting_ in such a way that it would be understandable if she just snapped and punched him. Him being a genius does not mean he is not self-destructive, and it does not mean that him acting monstrously towards others is not him acting monstrously. He did not have to kill Piangi, and Piangi by no means deserved it, he did it because he _wanted to_ and because just trapping him somewhere until he no longer needed him out of the way takes more effort than just doing murder. Joseph Bouquet was a notably worse person than Piangi, but he still didn't do anything that the audience is made aware of that warranted anything more than maybe a punch to the junk- nevermind being murdered in cold blood and having his corpse dropped down from the rafters like a fleshy piñata for shock value. This isn't even mentioning the everything about how Erik treats the woman he thinks he's in love with. There's more red flags in most of those interactions than there are at a bullfighting convention. Christine's act of compassion hits as hard as it does for Erik not just because he hates himself (which he does, he really truly _does,_ it drips from his every line) but also because she has ample reason not to and does it anyway - not because she chooses him or likes him better than Raoul, but because as monstrous as his deeds got and as unsafe as she felt because of him for so much of the musical, he is still a person and he is still in pain. That is why Erik is effected so strongly by it. That is why he comes to his senses and finally decides to do something kind with no expectations for something good to happen to him in return. That is why Christine is the hero of the story, and why she is so much more than just a pretty ingenue who can't decide which boy to marry. Villains are people too, and to call the Phantom an anti-hero feels like ignoring the text and throwing away a large part of why he as a character is so vastly compelling. He's a cautionary tale of what can happen when someone is taught from birth that they are a monster and do not not deserve love all because of something they cannot change. Sidenote: The idea that he's "more handsome" because of his facial difference feels weirdly dodgy, imo. In the musical, he's got a bit of his brain exposed so the mask is legitimately an assistive device (which makes Christine yanking it off without permission even more of a "what the hell, hero?" moment) so saying it makes him even hotter than the characters without facial differences strikes me as kind of just... objectifying?? The whole point is that his face shouldn't really be relevant to how people treat him since it's one's acts and personality that make them them, and that part of why he's Like This™ is because of people's unneeded opinions on it. This just feels like that but in the opposite way of how characters in the musical do it. Idk. I dunno. I'm probably reading way too deep into all of this silly spectacle musical, but that's kinda just what I do. I think super deeply about stuff I love and find important. Erik as a character is very important to me. Me only going "wow! awooga! talk about a VOICE!" after listening to Raf's singing in this isn't because I'd be ashamed to have a crush on the Phantom, or because I have a thing against villain crushes, or because I fail to see what makes him so alluring to other people, or anything like that. It's literally just because Raf sounds super hot in this song. She makes the lyrics to what's usually my least-favorite PotO song work, and I'm _VERY_ okay with it.

There is an all-women takarazuka version of Phantom of the Opera, done by the Cosmos Troupe in 2004. The Phantom was played by Wao Youka and Christine by Hanafusa Mari. (it's an all-Japanese performance of course, but even if you don't speak the language, it's GOOD.) A few of the songs are on youtube (like kzread.info/dash/bejne/lWegl5mjZLvFkqw.html). The entire performance itself is unfortunately harder to find and often moves to obscure sites due to Takarazuka performances being very persistant with copyright. It's not based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber version though, but instead of the Yeston&Kopit Phantom musical.

There is also a ballet version with female Phantom made by Synetic Theater and it is for purchase in their streaming site; I highly recommend watching it if you like dancing - but you have to count with the fact that even though the performance is marvelously acted, the music´s really good and the light play so spot-on, the actors don´t talk. With your renditions of Phantom, Raf and Lacey, it sounds like you're remaking the original plot. A better plot somehow. Christine should succumb to the Phantom's seductions in this version and become the Angel of Music beside the Phantom of the Dark, singing gorgeous melodies in the opera house once everyone has left, expanding on the mystery and...yeah, I'm starting to get ahead of myself now, I'm so overwhelmed by this! Gah. I'm so swallowed by the beautiful and haunting melodies between you two my muse temporarily returns and makes me come up with such odd ideas, but its nice to feel my muse come alive again, and it's only because of you two was I able to feel that. So Thank you so much, I am so happy. I always get so lost in the music. I don't know how you do it, but you seem to make TPotO even more enchanting and captivating then ever. Really, next time Broadway needs a new Phantom and Christine you two would be perfect for the parts; hearing your voices together once would send their souls soaring just as it has sent mine, I bet. And we could all use a hint of modernism in PotO every now and then...

That version of the plot honestly might be more generic, but it would be interesting to see them in a different staging of the show. I'm really, really impressed at how low Raf is able to sing. Two more notes down and she'd be able to sing the entire Phantom part without any transposing.

The most anticipated cover I've ever wanted to hear, and by the goddess of night i was not disappointed. The way Raf's voice ghosts through the lyrics like a gentle touch, then Lacey's response with a soft power. You can hear the climaxing passion, and the whispering want/need in the second half. This version of POTO scratches an itch in my brain that I never knew needed to be scratched. This is a masterpiece. Both of you have amazing voices. Yours, Raf, is devilishly seductive. I feel like I'm being put under a spell just hearing you sing. Lacey has an angelic voice, full of innocence but also curiosity. You two together, doing this duet... it's magic. It's addictive.

I really have to agree here. Having a song that I personally can listen to and relate to in more than just the words that sung is just so awesome and amazing! Your comment is so spot on! Because this is such an amazing iconic song from this Musical, but hearing Raf and Lacey sing it with such emotion and conviction just made the song resonate on a whole other level. One that I am really starting to understand is because I had never had the chance to listen to songs sung by two female artists that didn’t care about appearing gay. Getting to actually hear music sung by two women in roles as ‘lovers, exs, couples, pinning, etc.’ that have been traditionally dominated by a man and a woman actually makes me very emotional every time I hear it done really well. To me I don’t care if the artists singing are in the LGBTQ+ spectrum. That is their business, not mine. I just love that they care enough to give us some representation that we have been sorely starved of, teased and abused with, and outright denied to have within so many facets of the media. So if RafScrap, Lacey, and/or Gezeus actually read this, Thank You So Much for adding a vast wealth of depth and richness to our world by doing what you do, it means so much more than you all might think it does.

It was such a small detail, but it was genius to postpone the "dropped all defenses" line to meet up with christine singing "defenseless and silent"!!!

Ironically, I just saw someone asking for Past the Point of No Return in your Phantom title song cover, and now, here we are! Interesting combining the two monologues Christine and Erik sing. It was quite chilling. You and Lacy are PERFECT as Christine and a female Phantom! You two just have such chemistry. Would love to see you two play them in person.

I've forever had a strong and eerie obsession to this song. Whenever it plays I feel possessed by the sounds and always allow it to take complete control of me. As a musician, singer and songwriter myself whenever music captivates me like this I allow it to do so. But... I have never... in all my experience had a piece of music capture me like this cover. @RafScrap your voice is one surpassing the Angel of Music himself. Even though the Phantom didn't get his Christine, the ending shows a rose with a black ribbon on her grave, symbolizing that he still loves her and is keeping her safe. This story is very touching, and I would be the luckiest man in the world to have a woman like that. Anyway, I love the song; it really touched my heart THANK YOU XD.

There's just something about your voice that lends to the tortured aspect of the Phantom that just really intrigues me especially when paired with the voice of Lacey's Christine. I've been a TPOTO nerd since i discovered the book back on 2012, always loved the story and the sensuality of the characters, but i couldn't really relate to them since i like women. Oh God, it's fucking beautiful. The Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical and truly their voices with that beautiful adapted lyrics have been sublime. With my whole heart I hope they can also get to make "angel of music". ♥
