Switched to Pocket Cast once I heard Google podcasts was getting killed and I haven't looked back ever since

Same here. Really like it so far.

Podcasts should not lock themselves down to one platform when Podcasts are already so free with RSS. Paid subscription podcasts can already be supported with things like Patreon or oven things like Substack or Ghost. Discoverability is hard for sure, but the trade off I think is far greater when you can still post to KZread and funnel to your self-owned corners of the internet.

I see Pocket Casts in the thumbnail, I like and subscribe.

I used to use apple podcasts when i discovered and got into podcasts over a decade ago. About 6 years ago or so i changed over to pocketcasts. I've never used anything else.

Have you tried apple podcast gain recently? They have added tons of feature such as real time transcripts.

I used to use Spotify for podcasts, but then they started dumping them all in with my music, so I had to unsubscribe from everything and move to KZread.

KZread Music seems to handle Podcasts well enough.

Have you looked at the new Podcasting 2.0 standard? It adds some of the features you’re discussing. Might be interesting giving them some suggestions of other things to add or maybe doing an interview with them.

random question. Is any of those gray triangles on the backround middle gray? can i get "perfect" exposure with those?

Here in the EU the Google Podcasts app still works but I was offered no migration tool and the creators got no (or almost none AFAIK) support moving their podcasts to KZread Music and now they just ignore it. It is just an incredible mess.

antennapod is my main podcast app now. and it’s open source and free. of course it’s just on android though

Pocket casts all the way. I love it. Keep trying other apps including Apple‘s but I go back to pocket casts in the end.

There should be a poll on this topic I can't understand why anyone would use Apple Podcasts

Depends for something like waveform I prefer youtube because I like watching the boys but if it’s a audio podcast I tend to just use Apple Podcasts since I already have a lot of podcasts I follow and some of them I don’t even know if they post of KZread

I think the biggest difference between Apple and the rest of the platforms (re this subject) is that Apple Podcasts is part of their walled garden, where you can only use it in their own hardware

I think its cool that you all are in the talking and reviewing of tech, but I think it would be really interesting to see this group lead the development of tech/software's as well. Or at least talk about your thoughts on this idea on the pod.

I think they are mostly thinking of "youtube but for podcasts"...but maybe instead we can have something like "imdb but for podcasts" for discoverability. Though, because of the RSS feeds being platform agnostic, the podcast listeners are on so many different apps and platforms, that that makes it different to get all of them to come to your new app that you created for discoverability.

Right now im watching this on KZread because i had a push from it with preview picture about closing google podcast but there is no episode yet in google podcast 😢

I've tried YT music for podcasts. After the episode you chose to listen to it plays a random podcast out of thin air. Idk if that's a discoverability feature or not. I've listened to some podcasts I probably wouldn't have chosen thought.

I use Spotify because it's just so convenient lol

I switched to Apple Podcasts just because the immense amount of ads on Spotify even with premium the ads that are in podcasts on the podcaster side are fine and mostly implemented quite well but the Spotify ads where just horror so I’m grad I switched

You guys should talk about podcasting 2.0 and value 4 value. Podcasting apps allow people to send boost to support podcast creators for the content they make and it's not tied to one specific podcast app

I really live Google Podcasts. And i really don't want to Change to KZread because i would need a KZread music subscription to listen to Podcasts while my Phone ist locked ... And Spotify ist really nit an option AS i like the Idea of seperate App for Podcasts.

technically google is moving podcasts to google music.

I think saying ″google podcasts is dead″ is not very accurate. Yes, the app is dead, but the platform is not. It just merged into youtube music, and transferring your data is just one click

I'm not a big fan of paywalls, exclusivity, or removed episodes when it comes to podcasts. To me, podcast has a very specific definition that includes "freely accessible at anytime via rss feed"

Spotify is awesome for pods. Plus they are far less heavy with the "ban hammer" so long form discussions are MUCH better because people aren't constantly self censoring over fear of demonetization

Please don’t lock down your podcasts and allow these conglomerates to control these platforms. I use Spotify and KZread to watch and listen to this podcast. Would suck if that changed

I was shocked when I learned that Google takes a 30% cut from all "super chats" on KZread. Those super chats are basically donations from the fans to the creator and it seems highly unethical to take a cut of a donation of any kind. The problem is that the donors are not even aware of that. I saw a $500 super chat and I am pretty sure that the donor would be furious if he learned that $150 of that go to Google. Patreon for example takes a much smaller cut.
