The Place Jesus Prepares for Us is NOT Heaven but the Temple of His Body

In John 14:1-3, Jesus is not going to heaven to prepare rooms for us in his Father’s house or mansion, but he is going to the Father by means of the cross to prepare for us to dwell in the temple of his body. This interpretation fits better with the Gospel of John and the entire biblical witness. We talk about that promise; Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life; Christophanies in the OT; how we do “greater things”; and much more in this week’s episode of Reading the Gospels through Hebrew Eyes on John 14:1-14.

This man is a false teacher and you are in a state of deception . We have the King James 1611 bible trans. by over 50 Hebrew scholars . It is as Jesus said , He goes to prepare a place for us in Heaven . A flesh and blood body cannot enter heaven . When one dies in Christ he goes to be with the Lord for to absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. When Jesus said I go to prepare a place for you that where I am you also be he was talking about heaven not the earth . Down here to be born again you must spiritually get up on that cross by doing what Jesus Christ commanded so count the cost as he said. When Jesus Christ appears in the clouds then our human bodies will be suddenly changed and we will meet him in the clouds and be with him in Heaven at the places he prepared for us forever. Remember do not add or subtract from the scripture . The theological scholar as I saw in this video has done just that. 1 Timothy 6:3 If anyone teaches another doctrine and disagrees with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. Instead, he has an unhealthy interest in controversies and semantics, out of which come envy, strife, abusive talk, evil suspicions.

This is a wonderful presentation about things Jesus never said directly. Here are a few comments: I feel sorry for His disciples and followers who while he is at the temple, heard Jesus say he could rebuild the temple in three days. They thought Jesus was being literal, that as God he had the power, maybe bring some angels if needed. But if you are right, that wasn't what Jesus meant to say at all, but instead that if they kill Jesus He would be resurrected after three days. My guess is that had they put it to a vote among those standing there with Jesus, none would accept your viewpoint. They would more likely say to you " Brother Chad, if Jesus says he can raise up this temple where we are standing right now, stone by stone, in three days he meant exactly that!" You also explain that it was yet more cryptic speak when Jesus said "where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later." ( John 13:36). Your view is that Jesus meant that his disciples could not go get crucified with him. He didn't say that, and most of the world reading those words probably thinks it is obvious that He meant his disciples couldn't go to heaven with Him just yet because they had to preach the Word and to die first. Why couldn't' they go get crucified with him and die? Two other men were right beside him. Getting killed through crucifixion as punishment was not a hard sentence to get. It was about to happen to Barabbas. In fact, the disciples were terrified that is exactly what they had reaped. Matthew 26:34 recounts Jesus telling Peter: “Truly I tell you this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” Peter knew they would crucify him too so he didn't just "disown" Jesus, he lied to the people pointing fingers at him saying he was not one of the co-conspirators with the Nazarene, that it was mistaken identity. It seems unlikely to me that Jesus in addressing his disciples in saying "you cannot follow now" meant crucifixion, since his next words were "but you will follow later". They weren't crucified later, with one ironic exception-- Peter was crucified in Rome as an old man. And there is another irony-- the "good thief" was crucified with Jesus who pronounced "today you will be with me in paradise". He got to paradise straight from the cross because "the guy in the middle" said so. I am inclined to take Jesus at his word and that his words are what he meant. He seems to me to have been a plain speaker. I think the gospels portray the disciples as listening and responding to a plain speaker. If we can't take Jesus literally, the walk with him becomes far more difficult than necessary.

“Be hopeful, and do not throw away your hopes for you shall have great joy as the angels of heaven. And now fear not, you righteous, when you see the sinners growing strong and prospering in their ways; do not be their companions, but keep away from their violence. For you shall become companions of the hosts of heaven.” “but are like angels in heaven.” “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.” “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, “nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.” And Jesus said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” guess why was there no longer room in heaven for Satan and his compadres the Church has arrived

If I understand you correctly, yes, we are in agreement. There is no physical temple structure that will be built in the future. That temple, the final temple, was built inside the womb of Mary. He is the temple that Ezekiel saw. As John will say in Revelation, the Father and the Lamb are the temple in the new creation.

Your view of Christ as the temple with many rooms fits well with Lazarus in Abraham's bosom - clearly Lazarus cannot be the only one in Abraham's bosom. We also see stones representing tribes and as parts of temples and altars. In particular, the stone that the builders rejected becoming the cornerstone. It's evident that our life in Christ is so foreign to our present experience that there is no analogy which might adequately describe it.

Scripture does not use a single metaphor but many images of what our union with Christ is like. We are called living stones in the the temple of his body; the Bride of Christ; and his brothers and sisters. Just different ways of looking at the same union. The New Jerusalem is the picture of our dwelling place with God in the new creation. Again, we cannot try to press all these images into the same mold. Like many metaphors in a poem, they are all striving to communicate to us the same message.

The Bible clearly teaches that all believers will dwell with Jesus for eternity in the New Jerusalem. This is a LITERAL place that will come down from heaven after the millennium and Great White Throne Judgement. Revelation 21:1-3 NKJV Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. [2] Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. [3] And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. Revelation 21:9-27 NKJV Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, "Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife." [10] And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, [11] having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. [12] Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: [13] three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. [14] Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. [15] And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. [16] The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. [17] Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. [18] The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. [19] The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, [20] the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. [21] The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. [22] But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. [23] The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. [24] And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. [25] Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). [26] And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. [27] But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

I don't disagree. We will dwell in the New Jerusalem. That is how St. John in Revelation depicts it. But Scriptures uses a rich variety of images to describe our life with God. And one of those, which I highlighted in this video, based on John 14, is in the body of Christ. Paul uses this same image repeatedly in his writings. The two ways of speaking -- New Jerusalem and in the body of Christ -- are not mutually exclusive.

This is just weird. Jesus said “I go to prepare a place for you”. The only possible scriptural explanation is the heavenly city that descends in the new heavens and earth. Sometimes the answers are just far simpler than we make them. Let the text speak for itself.

The text, in John's Gospel, does speak for itself. When viewed within the language and context of John 13-14, the "place" where Jesus is going is to the Father through the cross. That is the simple answer contextually. Our challenge is to see past our preconceptions of what we think it means to decide its meaning in that immediate context.

@@chadbird1517 I agree he is going to the Father. He told us that. So the place he is preparing is the Fathers kingdom. At the end of the 1000 years reign and he brings everything under his subjection he turns the kingdom over to the Father and the heavenly city descends. “Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭24‬-‭28‬ ‭ESV “And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
