When I was a little kid, sometimes I'd stay up to watch movies with my parents. My dad liked watching action and horror movies. My mom liked watching musicals and romantic comedies.
"The Pirate Movie" was one of my mom's favorites since she was a kid too and it also became one of mine too. For her, it's the best of both worlds because it's a musical and a romantic comedy. At the time, I really didn't appreciate my time laughing, singing and dancing along to the movie and the music of "The Pirate Movie" until I lost my mom to cancer when I was 14. Now, those are some of my favorite memories of her.
Recently, I happened along the bargain-bin at the local department store's music section when I found the soundtrack for only $1 and bought it. After listening to it, I watched the movie again and thought of Mom.
After looking at KZread's selection of music from the movie, I've decided that I'd upload the entire soundtrack in a good quality for everyone's enjoyment.
This is dedicated to my Mother. I miss you Mom.

The music and story of "The Pirate Movie" (1982) is a re-envisioning of the classic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta "The Pirates of Penzance" (1879) which has been revived many times in theaters throughout the world ever since.
Although the plot line follows the basic operetta "Penzance", it's script and music were written to fit the modern audiences. And although some of the music follows the originals, they were rearranged to modernize them with a bit of pop flair but many new original songs were added but most of the traditional music was omitted.
With the movie poster tag line: "Buckle Your Swash and Jolly Your Roger for the Funniest Rock 'N Rollickin' Adventure Ever!" This movie is VERY 80's. With it's big hair, spandex costumes, and synthesizer music, there is no mistaking that the classic "Penzance" was Rubik's Cube shifted and updated to fit the tastes of the times.
When the movie was released, it was poorly received by critics however it did make enough money at the box office to make it's money back. Over the years, airings on cable TV and home video sales turned a profit. It's proven itself to be a classic movie which has achieved cult favorite status.
It's my honest opinion is that this movie isn't something to watch when you're looking to be intellectually stimulated. This is a feel good movie that's to be watched when you could use a little emotional boost by it's contagious music, silly humor throughout, and of course, the happy ending. But I sincerely feel that it's one of those movies that everyone should see at least once.

Same here. I had a crush on Christopher Atkins. But I also liked Kristy McNichol. And I also liked Pirate movies
This song was used between 1988 and 1997 in the Polish TV programme "Morze"(English: The Sea). The soundtrack was combined with scenes from various films about pirates. In this way, one of the most distinctive musical themes became embedded in the memory of a very large number of young people from that period. They often sat down to watch TV just for the opening credits and the great song "Victory". Greetings from Poland :)

A cherished part of my childhood which turned me into a Gilbert and Sullivan fan.
This is still one of my all time favorite movies..

I think people better forget the people choices on movies like this I think it funny comady and suspense. I loved it and it always bring me back to this movie. to me it's 100% good.

This movie had some good songs even if it is a 80s movie.
I saw this film for the first time last night on TV. Waa about to switch the channel but stayed with it. Liked the nods to other movies of the time including Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, and even The Blue Lagoon, which Christopher Atkins was also in.

Weird...BUT HILARIOUS!
Why this Movie was panned, I do not know...Clearly a Mickey Take with Melody, this intro into the music of Gilbert and Sullivan scores with our family....so much so, our son, now in Sydney, Australia, seeks to introduce it to HIS children! The little set - pieces add to the magic, please don't take it seriously, it is just what it set out to be - a lot of FUN!
I wish they use this song for the Pittsburgh Pirates Victory Song.
I wish the soundtrack were available iTunes

This is would make a great power metal song. It already sounds a like a Manowar cover.
I remember in High School playing Uncharted Waters 2 on SNES with this OST as my constant soundtrack.
One the best 80s movies watched it when it was on bittermax still love it

im so very sorry for your loss my deepest respects and condolences i lost my mom to cancer also i always loved this movie too one of my fave movies as a kid also in the early 80s i always love a fun and feel good movie to watchand ill keep an eye out for the soundtrack too and movie even on amazon prime ill get it when i can big time the movie is a true treasure even the starwars ref in it really rocks and thank you so much for posting this awesome song it gets the heart pounding.

Made my heart smile :) . This is one of mine and my sister favorite movies as well. We know the entire dialogue and songs by heart. The Goonies is another Favorite of ours. Thank you Brian. Your kind words warmed my heart. It wasn't a GREAT movie by any means, but you just can't help loving it just the same. Goonies never say die! And I have the soundtrack. If you'll be patient for a few days until the weekend, I can post the soundtrack for you. I know what you mean because I have "Cyndi Lauper - The Goonies 'R' Good Enough" on my Ipod rotation too. Great movie!

This should have been the song in Pirates of the Caribbean
The most enjoyable bad movie in the history of cinema. The movie may be bad, but the music is EPIC, especially this title song as well as the reworking of the original Gilbert and Sullivan compositions. The lyrics are so funny. ‘I’m older than the Beatles, but I’m younger than the Rolling Stones’ 😂😂😂
Thank you. Led by nostalgia, I've been looking for a better quality of this song (vinyls on ebays have ridiculous asking prices); now, thanks to your story, it has become even more special.

Hehe, plenty of Poles know this song and remember it from the childhood/teenage times of 80' and 90' thank to tv show "Morze" (Sea). Just regular show about maritime, exploration, shanties... you know, old times on see and stuff. And they use THIS theme as intro (or maybe outro). Communists and later national TV didnt give a crap about copyrights so the song was on air until I suppose ~ mid 90'. Same situation was with another hit "Eric- whose your boyfriend" but this time in very popular show about wide topic of motorization... Those were good times

Awesomely catchy tune, though those dense, multi-layered growling vocals remind me of late-'80's Ministry for some reason. (The "yay, evil!" lyrics would appeal to Al, I guess.)

I love this movie chiefly because the sexual double entendre didn't go too far so as to be very nasty and inappropriate.
