    It's a strategy game and he came up with a new strategy that wins... He is playing the game well and earned his ELO. Not all ability is on micro, awareness and balancing. Strategy is a huge part of the game, literally genre defining 😅.

    He's earned his elo for sure, but I think the reason he feels a bit like he didn't, is that he believes he doesn't have the depth to recover and take it to the long game when his initial strategy is countered. If this was a physical fight like boxing or mma, he doesn't have the stamina to go more than a couple of rounds. If he can't get a knockout quickly, he's out of gas and can't win. Colin McGregor VS Floyd Mayweather is a good example. Colin was hoping for a quick and decisive victory, and when it didn't happen, he looked and probably felt way out of his league. Phosphoru merely wants to add depth to his skills. Does that make sense?

AND THEN MY INTERNET STARTED CUTTING IN AND OUT. ..Spent the last hour trying to figure it out,... and I have no friggin' clue whats going on. Connected again now, but in 30s or a minute, or 6 minutes it'll drop again ... *sigh*. Always something going on that stops me from playing any sort of game again. 11 Now its 6am, coming onto 6.30, and I probably wont play now because I've lost that feeling. 7

    As someone who has enjoyed Age of Empires for a long time, I think my biggest issue with modern play as a weak player is that the margins are so thin that the large strategies are either more homogenous or just don't matter as much. It was a real problem when every game was a tower rush, but the additional scouting required when trush, fc, drush, men at arms, fast archers and scouts were all real strategies made it more enjoyable and easier to process for someone who doesn't care that much about the difference between 18 pop up and 19 pop up.

    Playing against a weird strat feels different depending on context. On the ladder, it's infuriating because you're almost certainly not going to get a rematch. You get blindsided, you lose elo, you get mad. In a best of X series or in a league where you face the same person frequently, it's a lot more fun. You have the feeling of adapting to a strategy, rather than simply getting flattened by a mechanically better player.

  • @lordsrednuas
    @lordsrednuas21 күн бұрын

    I think the strat is amazing for the game. AoE2 is an old game, the fact the meta can still get shaken up at higher elos without the devs having to change stuff or add a new civ but just from player innovation is great. The game isn't just about APM and micro, larger strategy decisions are even more important, the Puddings and Phosphorus of the game bringing in new strategies encourages innovation for everyone instead of just focusing on micro and timing.
