This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched (actually I’m halfway through now and just stopped to make this comment). I relate so much to what you have said. I often try to explain my thought process when taking photos using only prime lenses and you articulated the way that I feel SO WELL. I love having certain limits in place. It forces me to think and find solutions. Having too many options just puts my mind in a spin. If I had zoom lenses, I feel as though I’d never be happy with the focal length I chose. This comment has been very therapeutic for me, lol. So thanks for your video, keep up the great work 💪

Subscribed at “fish out of water”. The end of a great summary of the professional creative cycle, which not only applies to photographers. I am primarily a sound engineer, and the notion of limitations has become very important to me. I’m a direct-to-stereo two microphone guy, because it makes me think and work a lot harder to get a good sound, and the magic word ‘intent’ is often in my mind. I’m interested in the X100V for similar reasons: one camera, one lens. That concept is very interesting to me, and I think you’ve nailed very much about it here…

Great video Trent, and could not agree more on the rather philosophical point on how limitations unleash freedom :) The mobile app/wifi might be wobbly, but it does seem to work rock solid for the one thing I use them for, Geotagging, which is something I'm very happy about.

For grips I bought some gaming griptape strips and put it on the body and it works pretty good. It's my first real camera besides an A6000, and once you set the ISO and Shutter to the dials, you can balance everything within seconds. It's such an easy to use camera, once you get it customized to your needs.

If you change you front filter to a NISI (doesn’t look as cool) you can reap the huge benefits of high speed flash sync. As a fill flash for objects in bright light or people shots this is a game changer.

Good video. The app works fine, but you have to know the trick (I picked it up in a Fuji forum), which is not explained well, if at all, in the manual. Here it is: 1) Turn on "Wireless Communication" in the camera. (It's the last item in the "shooting" menu.) This causes the camera to create a "Fuji..." wifi network. 2) On your iDevice, use the iOS settings to connect to the "Fuji..." wifi network. 3) On the iDevice, NOW open the "Cam Remote" app. You're connected -- or at least I am -- 100% reliably. I have an X100V and this works for me, every time. No need for bluetooth or pairing or any of that. No idea if it will work on your other camera. Seems lots of people don't know this little trick. Someone should really make a video explaining it. (edited to fix spelling)

I’ve had my x100v for just over a year and love it. The only problem I had was fixed under warranty (6 months in). The main circuit board was damaged and the camera would not start up. The technician said it may have been caused by the external USB charger I used. I used an OEM Apple Ipad Pro USB C charger with USB C TO USB C cable and original Fuji battery, so it was not a cheap, low power USB unit. Since then, I have purchased a Fuji external Charger and have had no issues with any of my batteries or the camera. I would highly recommend getting an external Fuji Battery charger to eliminate any possible damage to the X100V when charging battery in-camera. Wishing you all the best and enjoy the X100V!

This camera brightens my day. The fact that it has limitations makes the experience so more enjoyable. It sits in front of my desktop and is a joy to pick up and hold. I like many others have shot with most other manufactures and some truly amazing glass, but this is the camera that brings the biggest smile. For me, my camera is a toy, and toys are meant to be played with, and I love going out to play. Next planned play time? A wet winters night in London. Great video. Be lucky stay safe.

Great video and really nice to hear your thoughts on the X100V. I've had since August '21. Used it exclusively from August to December, except for a weekend at a phiti festival. Been such a treat and I've learnt so much from the limitations of that camera. I'd really encourage you to use a flash with this camera. As the leaf shutter makes it possible to sync at any mechanical shutter it unleashes so many creative possibilities. I made some really cool images in a snowstorm and long shutter speed and 2nd curtain sync. Have a great day. /Robert

My x100v arrived today; my first “expensive” camera, and I went on my first shoot around Newcastle upon Tyne. It forces you to shoot manual, for an amateur like myself it is a great way to learn the ropes and really progress. The dials are really great, and although the form factor may be more uncomfortable it makes it so easy to dial in shots. Being November, it is pitch black at around 5pm- however it coped perfectly. There was very minimal noise at iso2500/ f2.0 with a variety of shot speeds and my friends Canon Dslr struggled with the lower lighting conditions. The x100 line is fantastic, honest cameras with a lot of soul in the images they produce.

Agree it is a wonderful little camera. Weirdly I feel the opposite of you. Instead of shooting manual I find myself defaulting to aperture priority to keep everything simple. For me the X100V is all about having fun while shooting without having to fight the camera controls in any way. As opposed to my Nikon which I always shoot manual :)

I just picked up the X100F for $900 in Silver 10/10 condition with the manuals, box, and extra accessories. Such a beautiful camera. I was going to get the X100V but the price is not worth it and I really like the D-Pad on the F because they remove the D-Pad in the V.

If you pull the front lever to the right and hold, it activates the ND filter. If you do it again it deactivates it. This saves you dedicating a function button for that purpose and frees it up for something else.

When I bought my first Nikon film camera at college in the 80's I could only afford a 50mm lens. I swear I was a much better photographer then, than after acquiring more lenses and better bodies. I had to make that 50mm lens work as a wide angle (very low to ground, f22) and a telephoto (Panatomic-x/Ektachrome + tripod) , and I had to physically move to get into position. After that the creeping laziness of zooms & then digital. Have ordered this camera, very long-wait list (I hope it does materialize), and hope it will restore my interest in photography via needing to be more mindful, not to mention the lower-profile benefits.

I use a beaten up old Fuji x10 for colour and love the optical viewfinder and the manual zoom. I also use a 8.1 megapixel Ricoh gr digital with a 28mm equivalent f2. 4 lens for black and white at 800 iso. The Ricoh is always in my pocket, it's tiny. If I won the lottery I would love a 100v, but alas I don't have the money.

I have one and kind of like it. I find it does make you think, but now about how photography works, rather what I've forgotten to switch on or off in the hundreds of menus. Leica M's are the cameras that make you think about photography - but of course are too expensive for most people.

What i observed is, If your priority is to post a photo on social media platform like an Instagram, Facebook then, An Image of 2-3megapixels is more then sufficient. Soo, Effectively, You can crop an image taken by X100v or any 24MP camera upto 4X times without being worried about image resolution. Which means. Through cropping, You can also effectively use 35mm lens as 220mm lens(which is more then sufficient)

Personally I don't care or use Apps with any of my camera systems. We buy cameras for the ability to capture images and for many of us that is more than enough. If your main concern is to share images to social media straight off the bat then use any modern phone. To condemn the whole ecosystem because of it App seems a little harsh. Hope you have a great week.

@@R8135003 Modern times mean modern solutions. Clients care about seeing images on a separate screen whilst shooting. Other clients want proofs immediately on-site. Fujifilm with their worthless app are closer to film cameras than their competitors who's digital solutions make the above examples possible. Having to go off-site to upload photos is tantamount to taking a roll of film to be processed in a shop. It's probably useless to even mention traveling but as for the same reason I don't carry a separate camera bag for exposed film rolls into the field these days. I probably won't haul a large laptop with me either.
