The Phillies crushed the Mets’ dreams in 2007, because of this.

Спорт

In 2007, the baseball world was shocked by a late season Mets collapse, coupled with a down the stretch surge by the Philadelphia Phillies, giving the Phillies the National League East championship. This is the story of the 2007 Phillies.

I will never forget that final game of the season. What a day.

I was in Iraq for this season and followed the Phils on the Stars and Stripes newspaper and occasionally on the Phillies website. I knew that all their names but never saw any of them play. I was ecstatic when I found out they had won that last game of the season and got to see some of the Phillies for the first time that summer at midnight chow when they were playing the Rockies. Despite the loss it was great seeing the Phils in the playoffs for the first time since 93.

Thank you for your service. Yeah, this year started a great run. And even though they didn’t go anywhere in the playoffs, it’s still one of my favorite Phillies seasons, ranking up there with 1993.

7:34 I was at this game. Chase, first two at bats, hit two home runs off Matt Belisle, both ABs on 3-0 count, and the same grey-shirt fan caught both baseballs. Ended up pouring rain, Phils won in extras on a Rollins double to RF gap. That was the best game I ever watched in person. Griffey, Josh Hamilton and Adam Dunn for the Reds. Dunn hit one into the second deck, but he hit it so high it looked like a pop up to the infield. Everyone was shocked when it cleared the lower deck. Thanks for the memories. Excellent video, bud!

Thanks for the kind words! Isn’t it amazing how we remember that years later. I was at Game 5 in the 1993 World Series, Schilling’s gem. And I still remember so much about that game!

Nice job. Love how well you put this together and this is coming from a Mets fan! It took years to get over that collapse.

Colorado was red hot that year, they won like 23 out of 25 to win their division (something along those lines) and had too much momentum for the Phillies...Game 2 was the killer and after they lost that game it was all she wrote for the Phillies 2007 season...remember it was Cole Hamels first full season and he was the game 1 starter and with Brett Meyers as the closer Kyle Kendrick as a rookie with a good rookie campaign was game 2 starter and both Hamels and Kendricks inexperience was exposed in the first 2 games...Jamie Moyer was the most solid of the 3 starters in game 3 which was the only game of the 3 that was competitive

Nice to see them on the good side of a choke/collapse for a change! They infamously blew a 6 1/2 game lead with 12 games to go in 1964 (and the team in THIRD place (Cardinals) at the time would be the one to take the flag)...and came dangerously close to blowing the 1950 pennant too!

Most people forget that the same thing almost happened in 06. It was just the fact that the Phils started out real slow and the Mets came Out blazing. Mets backed in with sparks to clinching the division that year.

Another great piece of history as always. Suggestion for a future episode. Show some pictures of Hall of Fame players who had brief stints with the Phillies; Pedro Martinez, Ryne Sandberg, Tony Perez, Hack Wilson, Lloyd Waner, Jimmie Fox, Johnny Evers, Chief Bender - just to name a few. I think that would be a fun video. Keep up the good work.

Chase was the MVP of 2007. The fact he never won one is absurd. He was the best player out of the three of Howard, Rollins and Utley. The fact Utley didn’t win the gold glove in 2014 is also ridiculous. I think he made 6-9 errors in 155 games.

Love how this channel has almost as many Mets fans commenting as Phillies fans. It proves no matter what the Phillies do, they still play in Philly and are irrelevant compared to NY😂I actually feel bad, not trying to be insulting. anyways, congrats on making the series this year, better luck next year
