We recently had 7 months of almost non-stop rain in the UK with a short break for a bit of snow. so the Philippines rainy season isn't so bad.

I saw a Family sitting down at a restaurant and they brought Thayer own rice cooker full of rice. My wife says that's a hardcore pinoy way.

@MrSovetsky My Filipina wife and her friends will do that here in the US. They go to Ms Apples Crab Shack and order crabs and shrimp and bring their own rice to sit at the picnic tables outside and have a nice picnic together.

That was an issue for us while there. Every time we went somewhere, the entire family came along.

LOL! I passed on a family trip to Bohol. It is a family thing and I would not fit in or be able to do some of the things I would like while there John.

Yes, exaclty...the same word(s) have different meaning(s) there in PI. Like when we say, " Can you come here for a second/minute? ", meaning just momentary. In the Philippines, they'll always say, " Can you come here for a while?" Also, when we say, " I'll do it!". They'll say, I'll be the one to do it"., just more emphasis.

I could have been that elevator guy. Thing is as a foreigner we (in general) tend to be more safety oriented. And if you are living in the west and the elevator says 4 persons or 400 kg, you don't want to double that just becuase you can squeeze more persons in. The sign is there for a reason and elevators do break. As you wrote, lots of elevators in the Philippines are out of function and when one is out the other one gets over loaded and wear out faster.. and maintanence do cost money. So here perhaps the filippinos should respect the sign in the elevator and wait, or take the stairs. Jeepney is more or a cultural thing. A buss in the West is full when all seats (with seatbelts) are occupied. A Jeepney is never full and people can hang on the outside. Clearly more dangerous but speeds are also much lower and in this case the westener needs to accept and adopt.

Good points. We continue to have issues with these elevators and any given day several escalators in the malls do not work.

Touch and go I can relate 3month LDR and 3 month in person here in Cebu great video because everything you said I know to be true she has 3 kids so 5 kilos of rice a week and she gets upset if I don't eat every meal she thinks I should be head over heels already even though about once a week she threatens to leave lol for one disagreement or another but I see some positive signs its challenging her english is pretty good but anyway I could write a book good stuff

It would sound crazy in the West to offer a free meal for a birthday person at an all-you-can eat buffet. But in the Philippines it would be unthinkable to celebrate a birthday without at least 10 other friends and family, so it ends up being effectively no more than a 10% discount for each party goer

I was in Phoenix years ago when they had large rainstorms washing out some freeways. 1/2" of rain can cause flooding there as you know Brent.

Hey Rod, how is the real estate market looking in Bohol? Are there alot of homes for sale there? Are there any condos for sale over there? Are the homes and condo values cheaper in Bohol compared to Cebu? They are talking about building a bridge from Cebu to Bohol. Do you know when that is happening?

They are planning to connect most large islands with bridges eventually but several years off. No condos in Bohol that I know of, but many apartments. There are several housing subdivisions also but I have not checked the pricing in several years.

I was watching the president's state of the nation address. And what shocked me was how the clergy was involved. Each of the faith leaders gave a speech. One of them was talking about food harvest results. I found this to be a strange choice of topic for a priest. My wife explained that the president promised a big harvest, so it was a way of mocking the president. You really have to know a lot of context to be in the loop.

If you're an expat that is humble and friendly, Filipino's will love you for it. But if you're a jackass, you will be ignored and some might even kill you for it. A lot of Filipinos might be nice but don't mistake that kindness for a weakness. If you pissed them off, watch your back.
