    It never ceases to amaze me how your videos are pretty much perfect. There rarely is ever an occurrence where I think to myself, "Hey I need some more relevant information regarding the equipment/topic that Caleb is covering" or ""Gee I wish there were some better angles for me to see what Caleb is talking about" or "Darn it, I like Caleb's videos if only they were prettier. If only they were more aesthetically pleasing visually!". Can't say that's ever been "a thing" in your videos Caleb, and for that I think you win the internet. I've watched and subbed to your channel for many years now and you are the first channel I recommend to people who ask me for suggestions. You are a consummate professional and I appreciate all that you've done.

    The way I like to balance a light stand setup is to have one leg of the stand pointing directly under the light you are over hanging. That way you have a greater distance of leg extension under the lamp as apposed to hanging the lamp between two legs pointing out. I also prefer the weight of the sandbags to not be directly under the lamp but more balance away from the centre to counter it's weight..

    An alternative to the sand bags are used automotive brake disks. These are heavy cast iron disks with a nice big hole in the middle. You can probably get these for free from any brake repair shop. Just ask. Look for larger disks from pickup trucks, SUVs or minivans. I cleaned mine up and spray painted them black. You need to feed the vertical tube of the sand through the disks when assembling the sand. Need more weight, add more disks. Lots of weight for free.

    Hey Caleb, I ve watched a couple of Videos of you now, thank you very much at first! I am in a sad Situation :D I just got my Amaran 200x and Aputure 300x. Both are great (dislike a lot I dont have a remote control for the amaran nor can I control it with the remote of the 300x, but I totally love them). There is only one issue: Both have almost the same output. Are there differences? Yes lots of, do I want to keep the Pro Versio instead of getting annother 200x? Yes for sure. But I am about to give it back and get the 300d II instead. Which drives me to...uff dont know I think I need a "I would do this" Instead of a clear answer. I have a 150W LS Neewer light. Wanted light (silent) like it in Bi Color and a stronger version. Now I have three lights with the same output to be honest. I do think the 300d II helps me more often when needing just more light, in comparison to flexibility. In terms of gels I am not familiar....like if its another 150bucks it makes no sense and I dont know how to use them on a 85cm softbox since I just dont find any online. Lots of questions but you understand that struggle for sure :D Before I bought it I was like: Yes Bi color...now I am like...do I really need it? My Purposes are: Interviews and Light settings (mainly indoors) such as image films Many thanks in Advance!

    Love the offset idea. At my studio we use a few 10lb counterweights on baby roller stands like this instead of fussing with sand. They're only slightly more expensive (if you go with impact instead of manfrotto), but they're a lot faster and tidier to set up

    Shouldn’t the weight go on the side opposite the hanging softbox, hence it’s counter...why does he suggest the light hanging directly over the sandbags?

  • @AlexMinor

    @AlexMinor

    Жыл бұрын

    @@mKruter Physics. If the sandbags go the opposite direction there’s less force fighting against gravity pulling the light down in the direction it’s hanging. Im explaining this badly, but the short answer is physics and leverage.

  • @mKruter

    @mKruter

    Жыл бұрын

    @@AlexMinor I'm aware its physics, as opposed to chemistry, biology or history. But it still does not make sense to me. Typically, using the principles of counterbalance, the counterweight should be on the opposed side of the pivot from the load. @dslrvideoshooter please weight in (see what I did there??)

    One day someone will come up with the idea of a weighted sleeve that will fit the legs of a light / audio stand, and will slide onto the legs when the foot / castor is removed (and replaced afterwards). Maybe, as a second option, somebody will suggest using a barbell disc weight and dropping it down the upright post and letting it rest on the legs of the stand. Last suggestion....maybe a triangular sandbag could be built for the stand legs that form triangles with the upright. Now, who is this MacGyver guy that everyone speaks of (rhetorical - I grew up watching the original series)?
