THE PERFECT TURN by TED LIGETY

Спорт

What does the perfect turn look like? We asked World and Olympic champion Ted Ligety to answer the question and hopefully get you excited to try achieve one next time you click into your skis.
The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is the top international circuit of Alpine Skiing competitions staged annually. It is considered the premier competition in alpine ski racing together with the quadrennial Olympic Winter Games and the biennial FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. Some experts event consider winning the World Cup to be athletically a more valuable title than winning gold at the Olympic Winter Games or the World Championships, since it requires a competitor to ski at an extremely high level in several events throughout the season, and not just in one race. Today, the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup races are held primarily at famous ski resorts in the European Alps, along with regular stops in Scandinavia, North America, and Far East Asia. Competitors attempt to score a maximum of points during the season in five events: slalom, giant slalom, super-G, downhill and super combined. The fifth event, super-combined, was introduced in 2005 and generally consists of a shorter downhill race and a one-run slalom. Sometimes the downhill is replaced by a super-G. Alpine was added to the Olympic winter schedule in 1936.

I all ways look for speed jetting out of the turn is key getting a good load of the ski and quickly releasing the energy. I would love to be on some of theses races again.

Wow! This camera angle shows how difficult it is. They reach a high speed that we can not notice on TV broadcast.

There is a BIG difference between Doing it, Seeing it and Teaching it. An instructor was to tell a student what they need to do with their body to connect turns and do it in a way that the student can Clearly understand and remember. In 50 years I have Never heard an instructor even come close to achieving that. That Includes the PSIA! This was Showing It only.

So please give us some descriptions or, even better, KZread video sources, of those things that you believe the student does need to do with the body to achieve those connected turns (Harald Harb, Lito Tejada-Flores direction perhaps)

Don't lean with your body. Most people going for big angles lean. What you need to do is work on your base of support. Think long leg short leg and allow yourself to shrink the inside leg.

the "perfect turn" was at 1:16 through 1:18, a left footer. I couldn't see what course it was. I try them all the time... I only get 'em on high performance beginner runs. Sad.

In 2022 Beijin Olympis Game, Sara Takanashi of Japan was disqualified in ski jumping. She was disqualified because the Polish female referee was an idiot. Takanashi and the Japanese Ski Federation are against the FIS and the Polish woman. They plan to file a claim for $100 million in damages.
