The PERFECT Radiator Setup For An R32 Swapped Mk2 Golf?

Rather than spending hundreds of pounds on a custom fabricated fan shroud and mega expensive radiator setup, we have come up with what we believe may be the perfect solution. But, will it fit? Have we bitten off a project more than we can chew, and should we go back to the commonly used fan system on an R32 swapped VW Golf Mk2? We're hoping this could be a solution for all who have an R32 powered Mk2 Golf and if it works, could save people huge amounts of money!

    What a great set up. Nice OEM set up. I've now ordered some fans and have a Mk3 VR6 rad so you've given me the direction to do this. Thank you. Love the content and the R32 😍 please keep up the great work guys and girls 👍🏻

    That has really made me smile that this video has inspired you to pluck for the same setup. Ensure the fan shroud is off an Ibiza 6K2 (or Cordoba) 1.8 20vt and youre sorted. The rad and fan setup seems to be a bit of a grey area amongst R32 conversions you see, and the fans screwed through the rad is a bit of a mediocrate way of doing it.     @@golfmk2 absolutely I was going the route with a corrado rad and ebay fan set up but this is way better. Bigger radiator and OEM fans. It makes for a much nicer set up. Is the part number 6K0121191L by any chance? There does not appear to be any other ones but just want to be sure its definitely the correct one. The content is great BTW. Really inspiring and nice to watch as a DIYer to attempt some tasks.

    @Barry McCourt that's the one mate. Notice the first part of the part number is 6K (same as the Ibiza and Cordoba). Plenty have run the Corrado setup with no issues, but I personally never liked the look of it (especially the top hose routing) and due to where it was situated it meant the fans had to be screwed through the fins, which makes my eye twitch! I've tried to do the videos to be relatable to the average DIY car enthusiast. I've very limited knowledge or skills, but with the right support network and research, anything is possible - even stripping down and rebuilding an R32, as it turns out. 🤣

    You were sooo close! We did look into it after you had said, but unfortunately it was the ABF they came with and that rad setup is different. 👎

    Funny you should say that, there is a solution out there to work with the OEM management and Mk2 clocks, as it needs a Canbus adapter. Not cheap, and involves hacking the wiring, but it's known to work... unless you know of another solution?

    ​@@golfmk2 what about the different alternator enabling the tacho to function that you told me about after the initial conversion had been done, is that no longer an option?

    @Jake Murphy when we first looked into it the diesel alternator from a Mk3 1.9 TDI was a possibility, but since then I've seen very little of this, nor any R32 converted Mk2 running OEM management like ours using one to evidence that it works. I have, however, seen a number of cars with similar setup using a canbus adapter with success, so I'll probably go down that route for peace of mind.

    Since You uploaded video, prices of fan shroud went from 60 quid to 120 on ebay, I had to order mine from Spain...

    No way! There were quite a number of UK based ones for sale too! I had seen the Spain ones too, but obviously postage would be higher and take longer. However, less likely to be rusty so there's that benefit. Surely the viewers of this video haven't gone out and all bought the fan shroud based on it have they? Although the idea of being such an influencer is quite amusing 😆

    I found the corrado vr6 radiator a far better fit than the Mk3 version, been running the corrado rad for the last 2 and a half years with zero cooling issues in my 20v

    Interesting. I do know a number of people who run the Corrado radiator setup with no issues. I ran it since 2017 shortly after the conversion was done and just had nothing but issues with it, and I really didn't like the look of the top hose poking out, nor the fans screwed through the rad. The VR6 one, as you can see did require some modifications of the slam panel and rad support to fit nicely, but once that's done it's got a real OEM look to it.
