Wow! that is great progress Dave! I am impressed the rye has not overtaken the clover...which often seems to happen in my experience! The does are really comfortable in the plot as they let their fawns have at it there! I bet you have good outcomes this hunting season on this plot!

I would have raked the seed in more. I also would have compacted with a push roller before adding the old grass. Even a bale or two of straw would have helped even more.

I haven’t been able to do any food plot work this summer other than mowing my main food plot with my push mower after it had gotten over 2 feet tall. 🙄 Took a long time but the clover that was in there has popped up nicely. Your little micro plot seems to be coming in nice and the deer are definitely utilizing it. Good work Dave.

Look good to me . Dave in my experience, by accident :) I put put a big cattle blue salt block in a low area and to my surprise the deer are more attracted to the salt than my acre of white clover. They have dug up the ground into a small pond that fills with water and it seems the salt water is a deer magnet LOL My clover is still being seen with deer feeding but the salt pond was a lot cheaper and they did all the work digging up the ground 😅😅

A totally successful micro plot, Dave. Hope it is able to survive the summer heat, dry periods, and intense deer browsing so that it still has appeal when hunting season opens. I received an order of seeds last week and have started plot preparation. As a test, in a shaded spot with soil that holds moisture better, I have planted a small area of about 1,000 SF. Just want to see what germination rates these seed will produce. My test plot has Arrowleaf white clover, some chicory, WGF grain sorghum, sunn hemp, and a few sunflowers. This combination is NOT what I would plant together in a real food plot but is purely for germination testing. The clover and chicory do pretty well in woodland plots together. The other three plantings plus some buck beans or peas make a good summertime plot in sunny, larger plots. Personally, I really love those smaller food plots in random woodland locations. The deer stay in them all the time and mow them down to the ground. With the variety of seeds I plant, there is also food for turkeys, doves, rabbits, squirrels, and even a few wood ducks in the plots near water sources. Now is definitely the time to be clearing those microplots for planting. Great video. Plenty of action in that plot!
