Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

For more lessons on the Basics of Patternmaking, get my book, A Basic Guide To Pattern Drafting available HERE: bit.ly/BasicPatternBook
In this video, I show you how to create a Contour Guide for your very own Contour Designs through flat patterning. Contour Designs are ones that follow the contours of the body.
Popular Contour Designs are the: Empire/Underbust Styleline, The Surplice, Strapless, and Halter.
This Contour Guide was created to help you achieve the perfect fit with your contour designs.
All measurements are in inches.
UP NEXT: Part Two of The Perfect Fit Using a Contour Guide will show you how to do the Back Contour Block.

I'm so glad you are doing these videos! I'm getting back into sewing and drafting patterns and I'm so glad to have an instructor (you) show me how to do this. You should do a basic, intermediate, and advanced series! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

When someone knows what he is doing it is a great pleasure to watch.. And you are definitely amazing. ❤️❤️❤️ Studied pattern drafting myself, although here in Europe we do it a little bit different but the result is the same and I love your way of doing it.. You making tutorials so interesting.. All the best and plenty of students in the future 👍

I'm glad to also see you are back-missed you. This video was clear and concise. I'm a draper - not good at all with pattern drafting(it's too much like drawing which is NOT one of my skill sets). Will you be doing videos on designing a garment from the contour guide? This would be very helpful when I can see how it's actually done.

I hope you keep doing these videos. You left us for quite a while. I already know how to draft patterns, but I like seeing someone else do the process, and I might see something new. Do you have any videos planned for "advanced" techniques in drafting and draping? A bias cut series would be great! Or strapless dresses with the bustier foundation.

In Helen Armstrong the contour guideline 6 is a combination of 1,2 and 3. So according to this video , for strapless garment do we take out just the guildeline 6 or 1,2,3 and 6

I have a question: when you follow the contouring, and you have a lot of fabric cut away like in the shape of a bolero front, and then you decide to shift the darts around only into 1 dart, where would be the new grain line, on the main remaining piece of the original block? Thank you so much for bringing this very interesting topic to us ! Can’t wait for the second part :).

I have that book as well, however, Nick brings Pattern making to life. I use both hand in hand. Armstrong’s book for instructions & Nick’s vids for visual aide as a piggyback. That helps me to understand what I’m reading because Nick gives the visual aspect on it. I also have a book on draping, however, watching Nick drape, I understand more clearly, he’s the bomb. Flat pattern making or draping, he covers both. Gee, I love that guy.
