Ex custom framer here- frame glass like this is cheap and thin, it's not meant to be horizontal like this, it's incredibly dangerous. One wrong tweak and that is a guillotine. please consider acrylic. I honestly can't believe you continued this project with broken glass. I've been following you all for years but this is hands dish the most dangerous thing I've seen you show.

I came here to say this as soon as I saw! Worked at a glass shop for years and this is sooo dangerous!!! Becky, please take it down before someone gets hurt! You need to use tempered at LEAST or acrylic! This glass will come down in daggers or like Belinda said, guillotine sheets that can slice your arm off! Love your content but please be safe! 💕

I honestly thought she was going to use plexiglass and was surprised that she used glass but I was rooting for her and her desire to work with glass. She should try indeed the plexiglas and see if she likes it better or get a professional to cut the glass, how much would it cost really?

Acrylic would be even better!
Both projects are fabulous! Just for safety I would redo the saturn rings. It's glas, it's hangig basically loose over a seating area and it's already demaged. It might hold up but if not somebody could get hurt. The tapestry is such a unique idea with that special personal touch, I love it.
@KajaKlaudiaDusia

I would use a plexiglass for it. It is safer, easier to do and much lighter. Oh, and buying a really big sheet of plexiglass would probably cheaper than $30 (at least in my experience) And make it at least twice as big.
@Sookielein

@@KajaKlaudiaDusia This thought crossed my mind too. That's a great idea!
These projects turned out so lovely, but I'm a little worried about the Saturn light. The vinyl may hold the glass for as long as you need it to, but with gravity pulling the ring downward, if that crack gets any worse, the glass could come crashing down on you, which would be terrible. I think working with acrylic would help you in every way while still maintaining that crystal clear effect.

Same. I know TSG love to upcycle, but especially when the glass proved more difficult to work with, I don’t understand why she didn’t pivot to acrylic. Also, why would she show us the bottle of chemical glass etch and then use a vinyl sticker that didn’t line up. 😕 hopefully this can be a fix it video down the road.

Hi! Thanks so much for watching and for your concern 💞I will definitely be re-making this DIY out of a safer material now that I know I love the look of the added rings.
I bet the glass they used on the original "Saturn" lamp was made with thicker SAFETY Glass. It's much thicker and if it does damage...it breaks differently, than thin pannel/picture frame glass. Especially when you are hanging it above a seating area. I really hope that you'll never have to regret this dangerous choice of hanging an already broken/cracked glass plate. As the initial crack already got bigger between the cutting accident and hanging the lamp. Like many people have suggested: using plexiglass is much safer!!
@olbird7647

I really hope she takes it down. Going after a style is not worth a horrible accident waiting to happen.

i agree... came to the comments to see if it was just me or maybe others have the same idea... the white thread running just horizontally especially on that green fabric fels kinda unfinished... also on the giant light, that cracked glass is really giving me anxiety... what if it breaks down completely and fall on someone sitting underneath it.... maybe use plexiglass instead? it would be a bit sturdier... and maybe easier to secure on the globe light... at the moment, the light looks more like a head with a hat to me... but really, A for effort and all... you can definitely do better though....
@amelia_rose_333

I thought that was the plan… but then she showed the finished product and it was only the horizontal lines. It would take a bit more work, but I agree it would be worth it to make it really feel like all one “quilted” piece. Don’t even get me started on that lamp though 🫣🤐
@12:24 Becky, pretty please only wet sand your glass and wear a mask! I worked in a glass factory and you have to be so careful of not getting any that dust in your lungs. The final products for both look amazing though! Would love more of these types of videos

And safer too. That picture glass just seems too thin to hold up for long. I wouldn't fancy sitting underneath it!
I took stained glass classes in college, so watching you guys play with cutting glass gives me mixed feelings. Mostly good feelings! I never thought I’d miss the sound! You definitely need to respect and fear the glass, it’s an unpredictable predictable mistress. But Becky, my dude, please don’t have that ring over your heads. I hope you took it down immediately after filming the reveal. The idea of it already made me anxious because I knew the inner circle had a 90% chance of not working and then the crack happened and I noped out loud.
Becky, like everyone else here, I'd agree safety is paramount. I don't think using a non-tempered glass that is also cracked would be safe. Think about Danny 😂. Plexiglass or other non-glass materials might be better choices. I hope you could take heed of everyone's advice. Love the quilt tho! It's nice! If there's one thing I'd add, that'll be vertical lines on the map., so it'll look seamless with the original lines on the comforter.
I love the wall hanging! But the light makes me nervous. Overhead glass chandeliers are usually tempered glass to avoid injury. Heaven forbid that should ever fall on someone at your house!
The quilt looked amazing and I'm so glad you sewed on top of the pieces to continue the effect!

Yes! Felt incomplete without it 💘
The glass ring is cool but I worry about the pressure causing more breakage over time. I wonder if a large acrylic sheet would work better and cut easier.
Unfortunately the integrity of the glass has already been damaged and I feel that gravity will take over, as it is not a safety glass but plate glass, it would be just as successful with plexi glass..quilt was great❤
you can sew a strip of fabric on the top of the back of the wall hanging and feed a rod or a thin piece of wood through it to keep it straight up top and distribute the weight evenly, and you can hang it using that
That glass work had me feeling nervous. I wouldn't feel comfortable sitting underneath that pendant, please let us know when you alter it 😂 .I so looooove the quilted map, now i want one too! You seemed to have such fun making it. Thanks for the inspo
I was skeptical about the quilt, but it looks SO good.

Glad you ended up liking it 🥰
LOVE the wall hanging! Using the bioregions is a great idea and has the added bonus of disregarding arbitrary colonial borders. Not sure the thin, damaged framing glass around the lamp is going to be safe in the long run. I think acrylic would give the same effect while being much safer.
That quilted patch display is fantastic. It really worked as a standalone piece and as a way to display all those terrific patches. I worry a bit about the light, in that you already have a crack in non-tempered glass and I worry that might become a safety hazard at some point.
Your quilt map is one of the coolest things I've seen.

Thank you so much 🥰
Yikes! how are you not terrified with that glass just sitting on there. Especially w an existing crack! someone in cmments suggested plexi glass that might be a btter option - - looks stunning but scareeddddd Also wow the quilt! that is amazing work. You are so so creative and talented Becky always love your videos
Honestly I loved the idea of the lamp, but i feel like you could do better on the result. It feels a bit unsafe with the glass just being held up by a few strips of tape, and besides, I think it would look better sitting a little bit lower on the globe (maybe also use plexiglas?). And the quilt I absolutely loveee, only thing I would add is the vertical stitching like you did on the horizontal lines. I do really like to see you bringing your ideas to life, and figuring out how to do so!
Having done stained glass, I knew that glass was going to crack once you moved to the inside ring... I would be freaked out to have that hanging above potential guests, and it's not tempered, so it could cut someone up pretty bad! I really hope you find a safer alternative!
The wall hanging was the star of this episode! Such a clever way to display those patches! Now visit the southeast US!
I agree with a lot of the comments about the lamp being dangerous. I think plexiglass would be a much safer option that would probably look just as good as real glass. Considering how high it would hanging, I doubt it would be very obvious unless you were looking super close. I also think the ring could be slightly bigger so that it sits a little bit further down on the globe. It doesn't look quite right at the moment. Otherwise, the quilt was beautifully done and looks professional! Nice work :)
The light looks really cool! But when I learned stained glass I was told that glass is strong when it’s vertical and weak when horizontal, unless specifically made to be horizontal. Also being cracked means it’s only a matter of time before it breaks all the way! Maybe plexiglass?!
I wouldn't press down on glass with my bare fingers but good job!!
i LOVE the quilt map and it's so SMART how you separated it by each biodiversity region. Incredible.
I can't believe that lamp was shown as a completed project. Loved the wall hanging! I would probably put the patches around the map, rather than on it and maybe sew little dots on the places I've been.
(Like basically all the other fans) Please fix your light so you guys dont get seriously injured. 🥺 Super worried about you guys and Danny... Beautiful concept but so dangerous! Quilt is a fav! ❤ We love you guys and want you unharmed!
Hey! The hand held glass cutter, you can fill the handle with oil and it lubricants the blade as you cut, you unscrew the back metal nob and fill it with oil and it drips onto the blade from the inside. I’m not sure if y’all already knew or not but incase you didn’t, love the video keep the hard work up!❤️❤️
The light is cool but the glass will get another crack in it and the tape won’t hold it together, it could potentially hurt one of you really bad, it’s just above a sitting area. If I may suggest redoing the project or using plexiglass for safety.
Love the vest and wall hanging! But also, this one needs a follow-up immediately, because this does not seem safe. Others have brought up concerns about poster glass and the crack already in there, if that breaks it'll be terrible for anyone under there.
Hanging the light up with the broken glass is so dangerous it’s making me anxious! All it’ll take is a bit of gravity to widen the crack enough to either split the entire ring or enough to slip over the center dome! Either way, ticking time bomb 😭
I was STRESSED during the glass cutting!!!
I'm 100% going to recreate that National Parks patch quilt! As always, love a good That 70s House episode, it gives me so much inspiration for my future dream home! Here's to manifesting a 70s time capsule one of these days 🧡✨

Maybe try acrylic? Natural vibration is going to make that glass crack under its own weight eventually. The quilt is gorgeous!
THE MAP IS INCREDIBLE
The quilt is the top tier part of this video, really pretty and with personality in it, yours and Austin's if he enjoys parks to. It have your face in it. Now the light.... Not my taste at all, not even the brand new 4k one. I think there are more options out there that would be better, but it's your house! You do you! 😊
Ahh, the Saturn light seems too dangerous. How about replacing the glass with some thin, chrome rings? I think that would look pretty cool!
I think it would’ve been better if you opted for a tempered glass for the rings because its more tougher than your normal glass. But its more expensive lol. another reason i think the glass broke that easily was because of its thickness. Glass from gallery frames are way thinner than the glass used in windows and furniture, like the ones they use on coffee tables. Seeing the pendant reveal, i worry because there might be a possibility that the glass would suddenly break, especially that there’s already an existing crack and there’s nothing that securely fastened the rings onto the globe itself. I suggest to monitor the cracks cos looking at it is like a hazard waiting to happen lol Im surprised the super glue held on cos last time i used super glue trying to fix glass, it did not work. Silicone sealant is more advisable, i think.
is the glass only held together by the vinyl? I would be so afraid that it brakes and falls down and dany cut´s his paws 😨 I do love the wall hanging, maybe would have down both ways with the sewing matching to get the complete grid and not just lines, but it does look good.
I love the patches quilt. So friggin smart
I just would like to take a moment to recognize that Becky always has a little something go wrong (glass cracking) and always comes out on top! .. as someone who always has at least one thing go wrong during DIY's... I feel you girl! haha. Amazing work!
That spray iron on adhesive is what i need in my life. Would have saved me so much time on my sewing projects. The tapestry is my favorite part.
I adore the wall hanging and am going to try it myself! As someone who went to art school, I would consider using acrylic or plexiglass for the light! Although it looks incredible! Just for safety reasons 💖
As a national park ranger and a sewer, LOVE 🤩 I just made a jacket for all of the patches I have collected from parks I have worked in and visited
Becky, that quilt just might be my absolute favourite project you’ve ever done. I LOVE that idea. So clever and it’s gorgeous. I can see that becoming something that gets handed down. ❤
That quilted map is so cool and I have added it to my list of projects I want to do for the future. That and when I have enough patches to justify having it. However for the glass project I highly recommend redoing it and even posting a video giving your viewers safety warnings on what to avoid doing if they attempt something similar. Glass from a picture frame is not meant to hang horizontally like that, not to mention how it already has a crack in it. As you said in the video, when a glass cracks, it spreads, and super glue did nothing to stop it. For your well being and the well being of your guests you should change it out with plexi-glass or something safer. And plexiglass comes in many different colors so you can make it even more funky and cool! But seriously, please please change out that glass on the light fixture.

Hi! Thanks so much for watching and for your concern 💞I will definitely be re-making this DIY out of a safer material now that I know I love the look of the added rings.
You should redo the ring with orange clear acrylic!
It warmed my heart when you decided to stitch on top of your appliqué. It is a handmade quilt, and it came out absolutely gorgeous.
I loved that you stitched the quilt too so all that work wouldn’t potentially go to waste.
Agree with safety comments. One suggestion, hang the new acrylic rings SEPARATELY auspended to the ceiling not the globe. Perhaps, four to six reinforced holes using strong fishing line on eye hooks on anchor bolts from the ceiling. This way you can get larger rings encircling the globe without it touching. This increases safety with a stronger suspension support. And, minimizes potential damage to the globe glass due to the rings weight directly on the globe glass. Great job on the map quilt! Love TSG!
I was like Gloves Becky! Argh! Light is cool, maybe plexiglass? The wall quilt is awesome, form and function and so you!
Using poster frame glass for this piece is very dangerous and unwise. Poster frame glass is very thin and not tempered. It's intended to have a hard backing behind it, not to be hanging in midair like this project. Which means it can break very easily and if it does, it breaks into dagger shaped shards. Something like this project needs thicker tempered glass that is more resistant to breaking and it it breaks, it breaks into smaller nuggets that can't impale you. I actually would have avoided all glass and just get a piece of plexiglass cut in your ring shape.
The wall hanging is EPIC!!! One of my favorite projects you’ve done. Really fantastic!!!! Just a warning, the Cricut vinyl isn’t going to hold that crack together forever. Please redo this in plexiglass!! And the center hole needs to be a bit bigger to let the “ring” hang closer to the middle.
this quilt DIY is one of my all time favorites of yours!! Incredible job Becky
so so love that quilt oh my gosh!!! plexiglass would make you feel a whole lot more comfortable than working with glass but it’s definitely a bit tricky to come by secondhand in good condition
the quilt map is such a great idea! I've been collecting the same kind of patches from my country and I've been wondering where should I put them, I wish I had room on my wall for this!
That glass having a crack in it is giving me some weird Cult of Chucky vibes when the glass decapitated the woman. Please listen to the comments and change it to acrylic or a thicker glass made to hang horizontally. We love you guys and want you to be safe. I'd also recommend possibly reuploading this with a warning of "do not try", cause I think leaving this video as is could potentially be dangerous if someone attempts.
I love the quilt! I’m a quilter, and the only thing I might add is some stitching around the colorful pieces of the adhesive ever starts to come loose. Another idea would be to outline the states/provinces in stitching, but I love how the lines look like latitude lines!
I’m so impressed with the wall hanging and how it all came together. I never ever thought of this idea.

The wall quilt is amazing! It's such an original and unique way to display the patches. For the glass I would use plexiglass instead, since it would create the same effect but is a lighter and safer option.
I would be cautious of having a cracked glass piece hanging from the ceiling 😮
OMG!! I'm obsessed with the quilt/map/patches!!! I NEED to make one!!
I love the wallhanging! The lamp is making me anxious.. I think using a different material would be safer and maybe prettier. Using an orange plexiglass for the ring would look awesome! I think there is even a method to make the outer edge glow.. or maybe that's just what happens with plexiglass and light? I'm not sure, but I bet it would look amazing!

the green top outfit is sooo nice on you! and great job with the quilting. personally im unsure about the lamp, i think the runny colour on the ball would have made it all look better if it was fixed. also i worry about that glass cracking and coming down
