Thank you so much for this video, I think I'm in about 100 bucks worth of useless Chrome spray paint. I will be ordering some of the duplicolor chrome paint.
Great info. Thank you for the work you put into it. Helps guys like me!
Most of the mirror chromes are supposed to go over gloss black base coat in order for it to pop. I use Rustoleum color shift and I’ve never had a problem when using a gloss black basecoat first.

Thanks bro 😎 it was really helpful.
this vid helped me alot thank you soooooo much.
Great video. I've had trouble with paint not wanting to dry on 3d printed stuff too, pretty sure you just need a particular primer on it first.
There is a you tube on chrome paint for car modeling. His best was Revell. Hard to get and expensive, but great reflectivity in a spoon paint test. Blew them all away hands down.
Great video......thanks. Great helmets 🪖 by the way 👍🏼
I just used duplicolor's CS101 chrome and yes it is a great chrome, though it does not stick to a gloss black undercoat, after over a day of drying fingerprints are being left in the chrome. In particular i used rust-oleum 2x ultra cover paint+primer. Next time I try the CS101 will be with a flat black primer. Im currently also experimenting with turtle wax's 53409 ceramic spray coating to protect this chrome. It seems to help.

you might try the alcohol based. Molotow Mirror Chrome Pen or Refill ....or Spax Stix Mirror Chrome in a spray can which also has a high gloss Black base coat.
theorizing ... water sand piano finish style (sanding between coats of chromo spray) or make a transparent shell and apply mirror effect of rustoleum from the inside ... :)
Hi. Stumbled on your channel. Thought Id let you and your viewers know how I have had success but I am in AUS so not sure re availability. First coat - black gloss base or black primer coat with a gloss top coat clear. The higher gloss the better. Then I used Mototow liquid chrome (no dilution - give it a shake, pull the lid off and use in an airbrush) and sprayed it by ‘dusting it’ over many coats - dont get impatient - do it until you get the chrome look. Let it dry at least 24 hrs. Now, usually any clear coat just dulls the paint. But if you coat it with createx 4050 UVLS first and let it dry 24hrs before a 2 pack clear, it will not dull the chrome look. I have no affiliation to any of these companies; just spreading the love. I have great luck but I use 2k clear for my top coat. FYI I got the idea re the uvls 4050 from this site. How to achieve chrome look with spray gun and Custom Creative Steel Chrome special automotive paint
I just used it for a piece of trim on my trunk lid - looks ok, but still silver looking rather then chrome. I did use a black gloss primer prior to using the chrome paint. No bad looking, but next to "real" chrome it is very obvious that is its paint.
THANK YOU!
Hi there! Did the Rust olem custom Chome need a clear coat at the end? Try to just do some touch ups on a prop and adding black lines over the silver/chrome and was looking for a good recommendation
Great video brother
I remember having a old 1964 VW and I brought it home . I brought a can of chrome paint from K Mart at the time . I was so disappointed that it didn’t come out chrome. I was spraying my wheels thinking that I was going to have beautiful wheels.

I bought the one suggested and it looks good i put it on plastic automotive parts anyone find a clear coat that works
Duplicolor Chrome Paint Wins ! Wow ! Thanks man I may try it on my Mandalorian Cosplay Armor Parts
Narrowed it down to local grab & go paints...rustoleum metallic (lamp post on front), or krylon covermax for a bright silver. I don't know which is better yet, but i gotta lay down some metalic flake, Waterbase clear coat, & candy paint on top of it.
Thx!
Question for you sir, what did you put over the chrome so that way the chrome didn't rub off or get damaged?
I'm new to all of this. I'm looking for a stainless steel to silver look to spray onto plastic as a "jewelry" charm. Which would you recommend? Also, do I only need the spray, or do i need other accessories?
The car paint chrome IS chrome, it's jsut that all car paints are a 2 step process because it's intended to look correct beneath a POLISHED automotive clearcoat. It's not ment to look correct "naked". I just used that Rustolium chrome auto paint as the base for a sword of mine. It looks like real chrome once the clear coat is fully cured, and will shimmer correctly once the coat is polished.
Thanks for the video. I actually thought that Spaz Stix Ultimate Mirror chrome was the best in a spray can. But unfortunately Spaz Stix isn't available in Europe. Did you try Spaz Stix as well and what happens if you touch the painted chrome afterwards, are your fingers full of chrome paint then ?
You are a genius
the best chrome you can get comes from a brand named Alsa Easy Chrome...nothing that I know of beats that or comes close but its a bit pricy, second best I would say is Spaz Stix Ultimate Mirror Chrome that is much cheaper price but you must use the Spaz Stix glossy black under coat before that top mirror coat finish....and no unlike you said in the video its not a personal preference when using flat black under it or glossy black for them its either you want a better chrome look or not.
Could I use this duplicolor chrome on stripped down metal for that high gloss/mirrored finish?
Hey quick question, I'm currently printing my mando helmet. And I was wondering if the rust-oleum 2x metallic silver would be good for it. I went to my local Walmart yesterday, and bought bondo and the rust-oleum spray paint. It was the best silver they had.
On The Duplicolor Chrome spray paint what did you use for base coat ?
how good would that stand up against engine heat
What do you use to protect the duplicolor chrome or is it durable to the touch after drying? I've had problems with handling these chrome paints after drying and they imprint and rub off too easy.
You must seal the chrome before clear . Inter coat .
IIf you have an air brush , t works better if you decant the spray can paint into a container and use it in an air brush to have more control over the amount of paint sprayed and get a finer finish. you have much finer control over the pressure and amount of paint with an air brush.
Hi, So I am looking to chrome finish my nexigo ps5 cooling stand. I purchased some really stellar ps5 chrome plates that look amazing! I just want to customize my stand and before I do ..I am doing alot of research so I don't mess up. The stand is plastic ofcourse. You suggest dupli cover ? Looks good Better than I have seen What are your or anyone thoughts ? And do I need to use a black gloss before hand Thanks
Best results are with moltow chrome refill used with spray brush
I use duplicolor chrome on my bar stool base, it doesn't give the mirror chrome look but close to it, The only problem i have is the paint is getting off easily by rubbing my hand on it? why its happening ? any way to make it durable and not getting off?
I can tell you that if you want show chrome look, It not in any hardware store you will find it. And also, clear coat will not make shiner silver or even chrome. You will rune the chrome mirror effect if you put a clear on it.
Will Duplicolor Glossy Black as a base be good for a base coat after applying Duplicolor Chrome?
Unrelated to cosplay but is the Dupli Color Auto metallic chrome paint durable? Like after the paint has been dried and you tried touching/handling it a lot, does it lose it's polish and reflectiveness? I'm repainting a replica airsoft pistol (made of pot metal) and tried cheap Bosny branded spray paints. Their Mirror Chrome paint is for decorative use only. Similarly, it's not recommended to put any clear coat on it. Even after drying for several days, it stayed sticky and it loses it's reflective property. Even polishing it with super fine polishing compound removes the chrome effect. Dupli-color is a bit hard to get in my country but I still would like to know how the paint holds up from simple handling.
Cheap chrome is really dependent on high gloss black as a bas coat. Only the really premium chrome can still look chrome if you spray it directly on bare primer. But for average chrome, it will actually be the black gloss paint that creates the actual mirror effect, and the chrome is just to make the black mirror into a silver mirror. Without the black base, it will just be pure silver with no reflections.

This is all true except for either if you have chrome or brushed aluminum to get the best look you will only prep and clean that surface then spray a light tac coat as you first coat let that dry and come back with another full coat this will give u your best effect if you use black k over chrome or brushed/aluminum you will take that effect away if you wanna know a very good tip when doing chrome or aluminum parts if you use metalizer/metalcast products then u can use the gold and get damn new 24kt gold effect u can use chrome and get chrome effect but whatever it may be to accomplish the proper effect that your looking for never spray black down over chrome or aluminum before you paint that area just clean that surface properly maybe use a proper adhesive that's specifically for the brand of paint your using and just paint over the chrome or aluminum starting out with your first coat light let that dry come back with a mid coat and let that dry if you want to keep adding coats you. An. UT take your time and take my advice if your looking for the best look your not gonna get it from this guys technique now black is good to use depending on what color your using for anything not chrome or aluminum but also gloss black will give you your best shine but nothing will shine the way it shines if applied rite Ober the chrome and if you want to really have something for people to talk about go online and buy the all real gold paint kit or you can buy the rose gold paintkit if you spend the money and buy those products then you will have the best of the best look but honestly alot.of the time you get what you pay for and what they are going for here is that real gold or rose gold or real chrome look now you can still get it but you wanna either use dupli color anodized spray can whatever color you would choose or use the plasti dip brand these two are the best products to use you may want to experiment with both brands because one u can get from orderly and the other is at autozone but keep.that can move n let it lay and do the work never stay n one spot and like I said put a light coat on and don't rush just find a nice pace and keep that pace stop when u have aboit covered everything becsseue you can always go overs it and fill n the blanks as it drys but if you keep adding it or adding to much u will run itand if you dont know how to fix that and when that happens u need to fix it asap but can b done by just wiping that spot with one hell.of attention to detail with a lite blue or white shop towel and just use the edge to clean the parts that ran or area be easy and Don worry u can fix it wlafter u clean the messed up area by getting the majority of you fault cleaned up after u let that dry for I'd say 20 min if u do this then come back over the wheel again and go over that spot but don't stand on it cover it and move on to finishing coating the rest of the wheel like insaid if you get in rhythm and keep moving staying about 6 to 8 inches away to were it just covering heat ever surface the you can go over that spot where you messed up again covering most of your fault let dry another 20 let's just say to be safe and come in again and git the whole wheel.should be gone or hardly noticeable but u can let that dry and either lightly come in and hit that spot one final time to blend it rite in or you can spray the rim with another coat but if you take your time out the gate you can breeze rite though itthe paint will lay itself but I'd also practice on cardboard or something first to get your rhythm and distance
What brand of tape do you use. I bought a resin Mando helmet but it isn't "shiney" but how do I protect the face shield when spraying.
What primer did you use before you used the duplicolor chrome?
Anyone find a clear coat that works with this spray ? I got my project spayed 3 coats just need to find a clear coat that works so i can complete my project
Question do you put on a base coat still even if the part has already been painted to me it looks like the part is painted metallic dark grey and i was looking to chrome/silver so do i still need to base coat over it first
good video, had to watch it on 1.5 speed but you covered lots of good info. So now, i've gone to look at the reviews on it and they're all pretty bad, all saying more sliver/gray than actual chrome. Im a little confused
Thanks so much for the video! What base coat did you use for the duplicolor chrome? will it stick to a gloss black, or did you just spray it directly onto the sandable primer?

Scott here. I've experienced silver spray paint dulling when spraying clear on it. I've read that it's the solvents in the clear that do it. I haven't tried it yet, but I've read in model car forums about guys using Future Floor Polish because it's water based. Brush it on and it flows out smooth, dries hard and shines but doesn't ruin the silver paint because there are no hot solvents to attack the paint. Just a thought.
The actual trick is to use gloss black as a base then the chrome spray you will be amazed

I used a car paint. It was Crysler Black I think. I cant remember. thats been over a year. I do remember that I tried several different blacks and ended up going to autozone and getting a specific vehicles black. They have all those small spray cans to match your car in case you get a scratch or ding. Sorry I couldnt be any better help. When I re-do it though here in a few months im just going to use a jet black (the blackest black) and airbrush it on with a good clear coat.
theres no perfect spray can chrome. the kings are duralumen, alclad chrome and alumaluster. if you wanna go real cheap you can go graphite powder but you have to make sure it doesnt rub off. takes multiple good clears and washes
Deep black primers work better with this.
