The People of Coqui | Colombia Nomad Stories | World Nomads

Find out more about a strong community on the edge of the world, with this film by World Nomads’ Brian Rapsey. Descended from African slaves, who escaped from gold mines around 150 years ago, the people of Coqui, on the remote Pacific coast of Colombia, live on the very fringes of the global economy. Bartering mostly with fish, bananas and other produce, they have little communication or interaction with the outside world, and yet they take visitors in without pretension, and as if they were family.

Hey Paul, This community is living on the Colombian pacific coast (not Islands) - they are descended from escaped slaves from the Spanish Colonial era - what is great for them is that they retain chain of title to their land so they can't be kicked out or have their land appropriated... which is happening in other parts of the coast line by oil/mining interests. They want to have a reputation for good sustainable eco tourism to help fend off these interests

@@brapsey have you been? This is really fascinating. I am on the cusp of enabling myself to travel frequently to Colombia and the Chocó has always had a mystique that tugs at me. I would really love to check this place out. I love that they are striving to live in harmony. Crucial in this time.

Muy bueno el material, pero escucho discos con derechos de autor supongo que el video no está monetizado, yo todos mis videos estan monetizados y no compensan los gastos con lo que me gasto como youtuber, gracias por compartir.
