The Penultimate Speech of the 'Red Indian' to the white man: Mahmoud Darwish|| محمود درويش
Ойын-сауық
In 1992, it was the 500th anniversary of the biggest and most famous mistake in human history. Christopher Columbus set sails from Barcelona in search of India, but he discovered America by mistake. This poem was written to commemorate this event. It mimics a ritual of tribe leaders of 'Red Indians' Native Americans. For, when they were defeated and had to surrender, they would deliver an eloquent final speech about their philosophy on nature and life to the white man. This speech [poem] is the penultimate speech of the 'Red Indian' in front of the white man.

Another missed Nobel prize.
Columbus may have 'discovered' America for himself first - in 1492, as did Vespucci in 1501, but the 10thC Vikings had already come and gone. 🗡
