I am of the view that Panuel did not do justice to this interview because there’s nothing one can take out of this other than having given free marketing and publicity to this racist movement. There is not even one probing question around the monuments and former heroes of the town that has blood on their hands. What makes things worse is to compare a town with a population of 3000 not even qualifying to form 1 municipal ward that must at least by having a population of between 12 and 20 thousand to form a ward. You compare this with SA government that has a 60 million population including whites. So gullible 😢

I loved this conversation between these two young, serious-minded men, who both spoke with enormous conviction and integrity. Two men who come from very different backgrounds, but are united by the quality of their character. It was a privilege to see them looking at each other in the eyes, unashamed, convicted and united through common values. Yes indeed, these two young men are brothers.

Yes, they are welcoming and warm, but that isn't from their hurt. If that was true, they would let anybody, regardless of skin color and the same value, let leave with them in the same town. to me, that's racism without showing discrimination, WHAT they are saying is that all black people are criminals

I respect the concept of Orania, this is a place that they built with their own two hands, no handouts, just hard work, dedication and most importantly accountability.

I still struggle with the concept of OWN LABOUR. It's the most fascinating aspect of Orania. Most of us cannot truly fathom a life without external labour. Gardeners. Cleaners. Nannies. Uber drivers. Scooter drivers. Builders. Etc. They do labour themselves. Fully by themselves. It's crazy. Whatever they don't know, they learn & then implement themselves.

Keep in mind that own labour does not necessarily mean everything yourself. Own labour, in this instance, should actually be described as community labour. They keep their labour within the community. Work do get contracted, but not to someone from outside.

I wish to start something like Orania. But it is more focused on African people to build a city like Dubai or Singapore from scratch. The aim is to build the first truly global African city built with black powder. The goal is to convert Tembisa into a city by 2050. I will call it Tembisa city. But Want to combine Tembisa, Khatorus, and KwatsaDuza. All these cities or townships form the backbone of Ekurhuleni municipal. And like my political icon Lee Kuan Yew who built Singapore from scratch, I also have such dream to turn Ekurhuleni municipal into a megalopolis like Tokyo, but it's a dream if not an outright fantastic dream. I for starters have one hundred and fifty in my pocket, and I will take fifty five to buy two brutal fruits 620 ml, to relax before I go to sleep. I know brutal fruit is for ladies, but I am a womanist

Thank you for taking the time to visit Orania. The idea that the bigger the government, the larger the welfare state, the more people depend on bureaucrats instead of their own community, their own faith, their own potential and talents is to keep people down and poor for ever.

I must admit, i used to hate Orania, the media is very hostile to orania, and they are instilling this hate to most SA pple, over time i realised its not the place they hate, its the idea of independence from government, your show makes it possible to know the other side of the story, there is more to it than what they are sharing, but their ideals can work even for other communities!

Firstly, Pen thank you for always delivering quality videos with thought provoking interviews. So happy about this episode because Orania seems shutout from the rest of the country, so it's hard to know what it is like. I have watched a few doccies and read a few articles. But this great to hear from their leader, from the horse's mouth. We could all learn from how this little town has developed and sustains itself. Everyone is putting in the work to make it work with ethical and moral integrity.

I must say I have thoroughly enjouyed this friendly open and honest discussion between two loyal and talented young South Africans. True sons of the African soil.

@@ingridartus4441 I fully agree. I'm Xhosa and I often think of the potential the Eastern Cape has. There are so many people from there that go to Cape Town and other big cities for work. Surely within their small (rural) communities, the expats could throw a miniscule portion of their salaries into a their different pots and save up for one thing every year. Eg. Year 1: 5 borehole taps (of course tested for drinkability). Year 2: Build one abattoir, to be manned by trained pros...preferably from the local community. Etc...all while making road infrastructure the main fight with local government. From this small idea alone, I believe so much traffic and a booming local economy would arise. This way, you've got people job creation, PLUS people would fight back anyone who threatens these structures because it would be the pride and joy of locals. So many other people would benefit. And I think of this because in the rural E.C, agrarian life is almost all that happens. The government is not coming to anyone's rescue. I come from one of the townships of Cape Town and run my own pest control company. There's a boom in township tourism again and because of this, so many small businesses tend to call for my services. I've started looking into servicing creches and other early childhood development centers as most of them are home-based and because of this, pests could arise from anywhere. The potential is there for everyone to eat for a very long time but for most, it's very difficult to think beyond tonight's meal, unfortunately. But you're spot on with thinking "local community"...1 million percent!!!

I wish black people could learn from Orania and start doing it for themselves. Those who are crying racism and apartheid need to get rid of envy and victim mentality. Orania is smaller than all large commercial farms. Great job Pen!

Orania is blessed with a young, intelligent leader. I like his integrity and passion.

I have never heard the Orania philosophy espoused in such a simple and beautiful way. The honesty/candour of Joost Strydom was palpable. Great interview Penuel. ❤

3000 Oranians vs 300 Spartans. The Spartan King was asked why he doesn't have a wall around Sparta... he pointed to his men & said: That is our wall. And as far as our spears can go. In Orania, the wall is self labour. Selfdoen.

Penuel, after listening to your host, I have a new view about Orania that I personally discarded as racist even in one of my books. Real Afrikaners of Orania do not want to live like ticks by sucking other people's blood for their benefit. They are a stand alone people who want progress and to make their life really better. A lot can be said about them but, rest assured they know what they are doing.

This gives me hope for our future. Two young real men with integrity. Respect for one another.

This conversation is precisely what the ANC does not want ordinary South Africans to see. It is the level of respect and frankly shared values and morals between two South Africans. Both of whom want our magnificent country to survive and thrive. We know how united we can stand. We see this in our everyday interactions. We saw this with the Rugby World Cup. It is only the politicians who seek to divide us with their poisonous rhetoric and utter disregard and disrespect for the Citizens of South Africa. Thank you, Penul. It is only through podcasts such as yours that the light and truth will shine. We are blessed that 30 years into democracy we are witnessing the rise of the new generation. A generation of young, intelligent, strong Men who are ready to challenge the ANC.

I will admit, I was very cagey when I started listening to this conversation but slowly and surely I was turned. This reminds me a bit of what the Middle East countries have been able to do and how they changed the state of their countries. It’s very important to remove yourself from what you know or what you have heard about Orania when listening to this conversation. I’m glad I went with an open mind.

This is a historic, iconic interview. Makes my heart so warm and happy. Joost is absolutely correct. The whole world needs this kind of development. We can all develop sustainable, self determining and self led communities that are formed around mutual traditions and values and beliefs etc. This is so exciting!

Vusi is a great guy, I wish he would get people to listen to him in a broader sense, everybody would be better off.

I think we bought so much into centralised governance that such an ideas seem so strange when this is how the original man was meant to be and was… Roman capitalistic and governance systems had their time and place but “starting all over or losing everything” is sometimes required to reset and look inward for solutions. Thank you for clearing up these misconceptions we have had about this area, I wish all traditional leaders can remember this is how it should be. I don’t like that we must develop separately if we are ultimately one but I guess one must become better first before being repatriated into society’s Thank you, great interview. When we carefully scrutinize the current government and (non/false) "democratic" system, we can clearly see that it is managed, driven, given direction from external impetus. Thus, the previous and current governments, pandered to external interests, and still does. Corporatism, where representation in local, provincial and especially national government levels, are owned. And the local puppets, of all colours and creeds, are allowed to eat at the expense of the very people they're are supposed to represent and resolve issue, provide services.... But they don't. And everyone know that they don't. That needs system change, and people able and willing to make their own choices, have real freedom, and most importantly, be willing and able to take responsibility for their choices.

Congratulations Orania for being Masters of Your Own Destiny. Well done Joost for enculcating Christian values. Your Christian values came across in how you conducted yourself in the interview. Great job Pen for the enlightening objective interview.

I last visited and stayed overnight in 2017. It was a wonderful experience. I spoke English, the service I received was excellent, I didn't experience any prejudice. I wish them all the best and will visit again one day.

I drove to Orania 2 years ago, just to check it out. Drove around few streets, with caution ofcourse 😅. It was so peaceful, clean, Afrikaners building houses and working in the streets. I went to OK Foods (received good customer service) bought food and left. It was the total opposite of what I have heard about the place. I’m also willing and ready but the sad reality is some of our people will have to be left behind …but again, we don’t need the entire black population to start. The willing fee is enough. Out of interest, are you permanently based in Asia?

Thanks for taking the time and effort to do this interview. You were both absolutely amazing. It gave me, a white South African, many answers and clarity. Thanks Penuel for your efforts, thanks Mbeki for challenging the men with your wisdom and thanks to the Orania people for "vasbyt" and showing the world it can work. This can very easily work in every community in South Africa..... Why don't the real leaders stand up for their heritage, values and their children. Once again thank you for a very informative interview.

I'm so happy we get to have this interview. It definitely has answered a lot of questions I had about the Orania movement and what I can say is that we can learn a lot from the people there and how they do things.

As an american living in south africa trying to get a full understanding of what it means to be a south african these are the types of conversations i love and i truly hope there is more of. South africa is a beautiful country that has alot to offer and a long list of reasons to be here. More conversations like this among all the many communities here will only make this a better place

This was possibly the best interview I have had the privilege of viewing and listening to. Joost is a young man who is intelligent, well spoken and knows his history. I admire his faith in God and the values that this town was built on. Their success is due to the strong foundation the founders built on and the grit and determination to be independent. Hard work, great ethics and community are what these people are all about. I hope many more Afrikaans South Africans would join them. Excellent respect between Penuel & Joost. Loyalty, hard work and self determination, that's my take. I wish other communities, espwcially blacks and coloureds can learn from this.

As a white Afrikaner, I must thank a black Zulu for breaking the racist stereotype of Oranje. I never knew.

I admire their self-sufficiency. I won't lie and respect amongst each other.

We can learn so much from this idea. I believe this idea can grow into a Dubai.

This is a great interview. I started looking for farm land on property 24... Plenty of land for as little as R10 000 per hectare... It's such a daunting idea and you honestly need people who share the same vision to achieve something like that. I've learn quite a lot from this.

Great show Penual. Extreamly interesting. I followed the Orania concept and their progress for many years now but this show gathered more info about Orania then I could get from all the other media outlets together.

Everytime I get a chance to sit down with Afrikaaner folks in auctions. I learn something new about the believe of self doen. Thank you Pen this was insightful Bruh.

What Orania is doing with their community based labor is similar to what my mother said they used to do when she was growing up in rural south africa, the community helped each other with labor especially during the planting and harvesting seasons and the families they helped thanked them with some of their harvests. But I guess we can re learn that community togetherness because it works. More importantly no one in my mom's village went hungry in those days because of their community helping each other

This beautifull interview has open my eyes to freedom, independence,self sufficiency and a visionary approach to and situation or problem the needs to be fix I am from the Northern Cape did not feel the effects of apartheid and need to remind myself not to take the stance of a Victim but rather of a Victor look to towards the positive side of doing things for one self .

It's important to always hear both sides of the story to make informed judgments. I wish our black communities could be inspired to do for self. Beautiful show

One must concede their superior progress while we remain divided, engulfed in tribalism. Our unity only surfaces when revelry beckons; we must refrain from harboring animosity towards their advancement, but rather delve into introspection. How many black intellectuals do we boast to this day? Yet, these same scholars have failed to converge in translating our Bantu languages for the advancement of mathematics and science in academia. Regrettably, no academic degrees in our native tongues exist from primary to university levels, nor do we have a medical degree conferred in our language. Despite any animosity, it's undeniable that they outpace us.

With absolutely no disrespect, keep in mind that black intellectuals (en masse) are a fairly young group. After 30 years, we are only now seeing the free thinkers, like Penuel himself, coming to the fore. In that regard, whites have had a head start of a few decades. I have no doubt, that they will now emerge and start projects like the Orania movement, Solidariteit, AfriForum etc.

well not really true. You are selling yourself short and it comes with that victim mentality the current government installs in the majority to have a grasp on your future and a means to stay in power. There are many black intellectuals way before, during and after apartheid. Many you already know of if I could guess. You just haven't looked into it. @@PietSwart To a certain extent, Piet, that sentiment holds true. However, when I alluded to academics, I meant it in a broader context. Consider this: there have been no efforts, particularly on a policy level, advocated by black academic deans and similar figures let alone the black owned government, aiming to promote the translation of mathematics and science at the university level something that was done for bible in all languages by whites by the way. Yet, the only country that endeavored this path was Somalia, and unfortunately, it didn't meet success. I'm not referring to mere superficial engagement here. Let's examine the Afrikaans community-there lies what I term as political determination to uplift their people. For instance, Afrikaners can pursue studies in their mother tongue, ranging from law and beyond, within university settings. This exemplifies a proactive approach that black leaders, unfortunately, lack. White leaders comprehend the principle of self-preservation, whereas black leaders seem to be plagued with a desire for power, often resulting in dictatorships and political violence. Our vision seems myopic, leading to rampant corruption, even to the extent of embezzling funds designated for basic housing (RDP houses). This isn't about fostering a culture of "young intellectualism"; rather, it stems from a deep-seated self-loathing and victim mentality that paints narratives that whites caused all our issues, which, in my opinion, holds no relevance. Black-owned universities are faltering, if not already fallen Forte in Eastern Cape a good example and it has no degree in first language to date, while previously white-owned schools, now under black ownership, grapple with leadership crises and corruption. These issues emanate from a lack of self-love and a pervasive attitude of indifference towards others as BLACKS. As black individuals, we must begin by cultivating self-appreciation. Look at Orania-the Afrikaners have transformed it through a single guiding principle: self-preservation, fueled by a genuine love for themselves. I could delve further into the plague of black-on-black crime, from political assassinations to taxi violence and the menace of hired killers, which all contribute to the stagnation of black progress under black leadership, still fixated on blaming a white scapegoat.

You're very articulate and brilliant in ur thoughts. Sometimes all we need as people is brilliant minds like urself, like minded people with a vision. People will follow, the number of people who wants a great life that has a purpose outweigh the opposite. It is when we have these systems in place that we can build our own schools the will forster such things as language, culture and spirituality

If you believe that humanities true purpose is to explore, learn and build your welcome. If you believe that the rules that govern any people should be purely logical and at the best interest of the majority then, your welcome. If you believe humans shouldn't work in the dirt. And find ways to automate as much as possible, your welcome. If you believe we should all have a say in what our town does and we should be able to express it digitally, welcome . And lastly if you believe all helpful discoveries and knowledge should be shared amounts people in the town so that everyone can find problems and improve upon what was initially discovered, learned or built then welcome fellow architect we shall go to the stars as humanity collapses itself.

I have never been to Orania, but will definitely visit. I don't have a problem with people living with their own "tribe". We should all be proud of our own cultures. As long as we are tolerant of others.
