My twin brother has down syndrome. He’s the sweetest person ever and I love him so much. Even if we don’t act like it at all times, he means the world to me. This movie was so perfect at showing how people with disabilities are actual people, not just patients who need to be treated like children who won’t genuinely get anywhere in life. The relationship between Zack and Tyler was so fucking adorable too. I absolutely adored this movie. It’s one of the only movies, if not the only movie, that I’ve ever cried to. Like legitimately cried, not just a couple of tears.

I just saw the movie and well.. It wasnt that great and trust me I really was hyped for this. It's one of those films where the trailer is better than the actual movie. To me the problem was the convenience of the bad guys in the movie. How they miraculously keep finding Shia and Zach? They find an empty whisky bottle and wow.. they knew it was theirs? Also, the ending was kind of dumb. But don't get me wrong.. the performances were great by Shia and Zach. And bond of the those two characters was genuine. Overall it was average.

The scene by the boat at night where Zak talks about the coach he had & told him he wouldn’t amount to anything, I balled my eyes out. I don’t have Down syndrome, but I was born with one hand & had similar authority figures talk me down in the same way Zak mentioned. It was something I related to & Tyler’s monologue to him right after was so well written. I loved this movie so much! Great review Chris!

I work with adults with developmental disabilities. My particular position helps with with job retention, finding jobs, career progression, and learning the skills for that job. It is very prevalent not only in the community but within these agencies that care for these adults, to treat them as if they are children. Baby talk, stunting aspirations, and setting of a low bar. It's wonderful to see that a movie is taking this issue and bringing it to light in an impact way, as well as having an amazing story to tell. I could not agree with you more about your views on this film, Chris.

I have been updating my feed waiting for this video review, and it has finally arrived! Thank you for posting (I had a brief hope for the A+). It pretty much described them reaction entirely. Zach G was so compelling, and I think brought out some of the best performances in his costars that I've ever seen. So many of the dialogue interactions between the characters were spot on true to life, and give grounding roots to the hyperbolic, fantastical moments in the film. Also, I love how the story starts out as just one "hero's" journey, and by contagious sense of heart becomes several heroes journeys, even the minor characters. It's a film I could watch over and over with increasing joy and appreciation.

You know what Chris, I had zero intentions of checking this movie out until I watched this review and I am so glad you did one because I really would have missed out on such a great film. I made up my mind before watching it (which I have a tendency of doing to be quite honest) of this being sort of a bone they were throwing Shia due to all his antics and his dropping in and out of his...almost psychosis in his personal life, and was going to be fully self serving to showing how he is great by helping this kid and I'm beyond shocked that it was such a very genuine, beautiful story that put the sights on the entire situation and that was an incredible surprise. Every now and again I get into a habit of judging a book by it's cover and I love when a film like this takes me out of that modality. Thank you for a solid review as always. ❤

Shia is such a natural acting talent. And he really seems to be in a good place in his personal life and has found his voice, I think we will continue to see better and better work out of him. Super happy for him

  • @Blade_Runner_79

Nope, can't be, it does great damage to the accepted history of the Joker, and although walking Phoenix will be brilliant, the movie premise and production itself is so flawed that it will be lucky to get an A. One small example, in the trailer they show a subway platform and they didn't even bother to cover or change the signs from a real New York City Subway platform to try to pretend it's Gotham. Previous movies have done a great job of either building sets from scratch or converting existing cities, down to changing the manhole covers to say Gotham City. This movie doesn't even change a huge prominent and a well-known subway stop that clearly is not in Gotham. Many many other such examples can be told just from the trailers. And the Joker was not created by mental illness, he was created by Batman, that is the whole story that makes the Joker captivating, that the hero made his own enemy.

"I take back anything negative I ever said about Shia’s acting ability. " His acting was never a problem for me. I know that he has been in movies in which he was forced to act alongside of horrible actors (i.e.: Megan Fox) which can make even a good actor seem bad or he was in a film that had a horrible screenplay (i.e.: Transformers, Wall Street 2, The Kingdom of the Plastic Skull).
