The Peak Forester with 30917 'Ardingly' and D818 'Glory' - March 30th 2024

The first tour of the year for Railway Timelines Limited's Maunsell Schools Class No. 30917 'Ardingly' sees the 4-4-0 on foreign territory with the 1Z17 09:30 London King's Cross - Rowsley South 'The Peak Forester' railtour on March 30th 2024, with the Churnet Valley Railway's Class 42 No. D818 'Glory' as the supporting act.
Our first views are from the day before the tour, as both 30917 and D818 make their way to Bounds Green depot for overnight stabling. Then, on the day, the Schools is seen accelerating hard through Welwyn North Station on the East Coast Main Line, having been switched off the slow line at Welwyn Garden City. D818 provides assistance with accelerating here to minimise disruption to service trains. We then see the Schools getting into her stride as she passes Sandy, once again on the slow line. Once off the East Coast Main Line, the Schools was left to her own devices and is seen flying through Spondon at speed, heading towards Derby. Our final view is near the end of the train's journey, on the Derwent Valley Line where the line runs parallel to Derby Road and the River Derwent towards Matlock, as 30917 shuts off and prepares to brake for the sharp speed restriction at Matlock Bath Station.
